Thank you so much! I actually stood and played for a very long time, and I believe that to sit and play properly you must be able to stand and play properly first. Sitting and playing with both feet on the ground happened by accident for me actually. I was tired in a lesson one day, so I borrowed my bass teacher's stool, which was low for me, but I loved the way I was able to approach the bass, so I ended up cutting my stool down. I would equate the way I sit with maybe a (to be continued)...
awesome performance..love the intonation and your clean sound..im actually doing the same sonata myself next week for my end of the year double bass practical at the university of cape town..
wonderful performance..will be doing these two movements myself for my end of the year double bass exam which is a week from now..love your clean sound and intonation..
Thank you very much! This is a piece for oboe, and it's transcribed for bass in a book called "Solos for the Double Bass Player" by Oscar Zimmerman, which has a pink cover, and a cello on the cover, for some strange reason. Hahaha! Good luck!
@ileftmyheartinnj Linda McKnight and Kevin Brown are the classical teachers and Bill Moring is the jazz teacher. I study with Linda, who is excellent, and I've also studied with Kevin and worked with Bill when he taught my combo for a while and they're both excellent as well!
@ileftmyheartinnj Thanks! Yeah, it's a transcription of an oboe sonata, so it's probably not popularly played by bass players, but somehow it lies pretty well on the bass.
...(continued) player like Jeff Bradetich, or even possibly David Grossman. I've tried to model some of what I do after phenomenal players like these, but of course not at the cost of my own health and best interest in terms of my playing. However, I played in a master class for Jeff Bradetich, and upon meeting him, I realized that he's incredibly tall, so to sit the way he does, he needs not cut his stool. I hope this information is helpful to you!
Hi! This sonata was originally for oboe. A transcription for the double bass can be found in a book entitled "Solos for the Double Bass Player", edited by Oscar Zimmerman (formerly of the Rochester Philharmonic). It's a worthwhile book to buy, as it has a number of great pieces, including the regularly performed Bottesini Elegy. Here's a link to it on Amazon.
