      I'm not personally into ToV but I am 100% for covering other systems in addition to D&D.

      I do, I'm a kickstarter backer and very much looking forward to the release. I've been a Kobold Press fan for years. I'm signed up to play a couple of ToV games at Gamehole Con in October, and I'm playtesting a homebrew class character built on ToV specs in a 5E game. I find it very interesting to see someone elses take on it.

    Thanks for helping people explore the system. Looks like a very cool 5e variant.

    Missed the Talent part of the Soldier background. And a Soldier background could make sense in the scenario you built for the character if as they grew up with the traveling group they became a guard in the Caravan. A soldier background would grant a choice of the following talents. Combat Casting, Combat Conditioning, or Field Medic talent.
    I've found the Field Medic Talent very useful as a last ditch, keep someone fighting thing.

    I kinda feel like this “found as a baby” is going to be a huge ToV trope. Hope people find ways to get more creative with heritages and lineages than that as time go on ;).

      Yeah it was the first thing that popped in my mind

      It'll probably end up becoming a meme.

    Can a player slide a ToV character into a D$D game and vice versa?

    • @MrTarrasque
      @MrTarrasque  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, in general yes. For as far as I can tell

      Then it has a chance. When choosing an RPG mechanic, the real determining factor for most people is the size player base.

      I'm running a ToV built character in an existing 5E game now. My class may be custom (playtesting new Mentalist class) but the character build is not that far off what the rest of the players have.

    Not using luck points? Will you be using doom points?

    • @MrTarrasque
      @MrTarrasque  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm on the fence about using the sytem, but I'm NOT calling it luck. I just can't.
      Doom points I will use every once in a while. But I bullshit my players enough already, basically I've been using Doom points ever since I started GM'ing.

      @@MrTarrasquecharacters can only earn one luck point from attacking. So a fighter with two attacks doesn't get 2 luck points if they miss twice. I'll grab the passage

      GAINING LUCK POINTS
      When you create your character, you start with 0 Luck
      points. You gain Luck points in the following ways:
      • Once per turn, when you fail an attack roll or save, gain
      1 Luck point.
      • The GM can award 1 Luck point to a character as a
      reward for coming up with a clever idea, excellent
      roleplaying, or trying something interesting but not
      optimal.
      • The GM can award Luck points to a party for surviving
      difficult encounters or achieving story goals

      Yes I know. It's a personal issue I have. I bet there will be tons of people loving the sh*t out of it

      Not fan of the Luck mechanics also. It’s another layer of stuff to keep track, but more importantly it makes already superheroic characters more heroic. I see that as a safety net for characters who succeed 70% of the times anyway.

    Legally distinct 5e. I can understand wanting to mostly keep the way the player options work and core things. But they literally copied the DMG/PHB for how the game is run, word for word in most cases. They have an opportunity to fix the way some of the rules work and are just squandering it. They keep promising "cool things" but we just haven't seen it. I backed the KS, and will be switching to it regardless. I just can't help but feel let down by how safe they're playing it when they don't really have to.

    • @MrTarrasque
      @MrTarrasque  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are playing it safe for sure, I understand your point completly

    • @littlelostphoenix
      @littlelostphoenix ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but they also said from the start that it will be fully compatible with 5E, so much of that copying was necessary to not invalidate all the material they already put out for 5E. So, there have to be some practical limits on change to be compatible. I think, based on what I've seen, there are a lot of positive changes they have included. Things I've been doing in my own games for some time.
      But I understand my opinion is not the only one, and would be interested in hearing what other people think should have been included that is not.

    • @spooderous
      @spooderous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@littlelostphoenix Totally agree and that is what I have been saying to others. But I don't think copying the way the rules are written word for word was the best choice. They can alter and expand some of the rules where necessary without breaking the game. Not just taking 5e as is an injecting their own things like weapon options, fabled magic items and what not. I want to preserve the core experience but there is room for improvement.
