Saved this file 20 years ago, posted it 10 years ago, now 10 years after that Trent and NIN get inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame and has won multiple Oscars and Emmy awards for his composed soundtracks. 8 years ago I said I wonder if he'll be remembered in 200 years. Now there's no question. Of course he will. He is one of the best Musicians/Composers and has been for 32+ years. (counting from "Down in It" era '88 and beyond.)
I really wish there was more live footage of NIN in the studio making the first four albums. I've spent a lot of time using my ears to try and figure out how they did that. Would be nice to just be able to see it. Thanks for this!
Over 15 years later and doesn't sound out-dated whatsoever. The best track off one of the best albums off all time. Inspiring to see this rehearsal footage. Thanks for uploading!
That's why I held on to that vid since I downloaded it off nineinchnails, net back in 2000 Absoloutley amazing watching that man work, unrivaled talent. Musician is not the right word for him. Composer always fit better in my mind... I only hope 200 years from now he'll be remembered as we do the greats like Mozart and Beethoven.
Oh wow ive never seen this. I really enjoyed the All that Could have Been DVD. The Fragile as an album is a masterpiece and an album i will listen to yearly until my last day on this earth.
Yup, people used to laugh at me back in the 90's when I said he'd be remembered like the greats, 200 years from now they'll still be listening to NIN. Which makes him a Composer, not just a Rock artist. Not to mention personally I've seen him play Synth, Guitar, Bass, Xylophone, Triangle, Tambourine and of course Piano.
almost 50k views on a video I fan posted almost 10 years ago. crazy considering it's just an abstract rehearsal. I always just loved how raw it sounded.
Trent looks really healthy here. I thought he was massively down on himself during the Fragile era? Is it just the music that makes me think that or was he really down and out during this period?
My favorite musical pairings of any of the Nine Inch Nails live eras. Robin just rips the life out of that guitar, Danny was always an equal counterpoint of madness to him, Charlie Clouser was wild back there with some of the most creative synth work ever on stage (the theremin!), and Jerome Dillon laid down the most creative drum patterns.
@zappaus He was during the writing of the album itself. He was drinking a lot and had writers block, that is why there are so many instrumental pieces. Trent struggled with alcoholism for a few years After The Self Destruct tour in '95, partly because his grandmother died as well as his dog which he took everywhere even when touring. If you watch the Closure video you can see the dog with him. Was either a Golden Retriever or Lab, can't quite remember right now.
In complete awe of this guy. Trent is a genius and whether he gets the credit or not, he has influenced so many artists over the years. Their music is truly special.
It's refreshing to see an actual artist who is a real musician. And can speak and understand real music. All these faux music artists today don't even know what a note is. And their music is terrible because of it.
Fragility 2.0 was my first and most memorable NIN concert. Since then I was lucky enough to see 9 more. WITH_TEETH at a very small club, 1500 people.. amazing, but I'm short and the crowd was kinda rough trying to get close so I ended up taking back seat by the bar and sitting up on the top edge of a lounge chair...but a very personal feel. 5 LITS over N/A mini tour, and a NIN|JA show. Sadly by then I was broke and never saw Wave Goodbye :/ No wheels for Self Destruct. Major :( on that one.
After 200 times watching this clip thinking Trent gives general directions to everyone I realize he's actually just filling Robin Finck in on everything.
@bridizzle69 -That's not why Josh is playing with NIN now. Jerome got diagnosed with a heart condition and can never play drums again. The set that's right here in this video is for sale at the West LA Guitar Center. Pretty shitty if you ask me.
Looks to be a G&L. Either an L-2000 or M-2000. Known for their interchangeable tonal capabilities. I owned the 5-string variant of the L for some time. Really the only bass you need when it comes to writing in the studio.
15 years later...Robin Finck hasn't aged a day.

So sick dude
Thank you for uploading this, I keep coming back from time to time to watch for inspiration.
He's so talented it actually blows my mind sometimes. He's in charge in the studio and knows exactly what sound he wants that's in his head.
Katey V Great leader
uh, it's a rehearsal you know
+Indegruv No shit.
Over 15 years later and doesn't sound out-dated whatsoever. The best track off one of the best albums off all time. Inspiring to see this rehearsal footage. Thanks for uploading!
I think the album is so great because there is no “best track” just 23 amazing songs that flow fantastically
As a musician, I would be so intimidated by Trent. Genius.
That's why I held on to that vid since I downloaded it off nineinchnails, net back in 2000

Thank you ❤️
talent that will never again be duplicated
The drive and determination always get me. Sorry if those are redundant.
Seeing the process really shows how much Trent thinks about all the details. A master at work
Hello 240p, we meet again

The thrashy, elegant and artistic expression in Trent's music is incredible
Robin is guitar hero
Incredible. To be in included in these moments. Thank you for posting this.
Oh wow ive never seen this. I really enjoyed the All that Could have Been DVD. The Fragile as an album is a masterpiece and an album i will listen to yearly until my last day on this earth.
Wow, forgot how amazing some of the pieces of this album were... very nice to see.
This is awesome! Plus, I have never seen Trent play the bass before.
You should search for NIN live with Manson playing the beautiful people, Reznor plays bass in that song as well.
Check out the version of "Reptile" featuring Peter Murphy! It's amazing
that was a great line up.
i would love to watch them jam in person, gives me the chills
this is one of my favorite NIN songs and maybe one of my favorite songs ever
Spinal Tap Jazz Fusion/Elvis' Grave moment there with the harmonies. Very cool footage
this music is so fascinating. and never boring.
Seems like a whole nother level compared to current trends.
The bass tone on the genius, amazing footage
May 2nd, 3rd, & 4th 2000 [fragility tour]_all general admission... Incredible shows.

Only one word for Trent: Genius.

That was f*&^ing awesome.

its like watching bach or mozart at work.
ive been coming back to this video since 2010 from my likes 😂
masterpiece
so rad
Well played
Wish they kept that intro.
I think it would be funny in a Monty Python way sort of way if someone burst into the room yelling "way too proggy Trent, don't go there, Neigh!!"
Dope
Where did this footage come from?
The sound better than vanilla ice
Trent looks really healthy here. I thought he was massively down on himself during the Fragile era? Is it just the music that makes me think that or was he really down and out during this period?
Trent was clean when the fragile was released but then several months later got addicted to coke and alcohol again.
aaaaaaaaa 1:28

#
I disliked this video because I am extremely jealous... should i feel bad?
trent going aaaaaaaaaaa is rather funny
You dont see Trent playing bass very often.

I fucking love this!!! I remember back when this footage released. I could marinate in this forever :)

Yep. That’s how it’s done.
Damn right, on his 59th B day of all days..
Man this is sooooo good
@jharbid He was doing alot of coke during the fragile sessions. Maybe that's why he looks so good.
04:04
A human cannot compose music like this for sure
Did Trent have a thyroid problem or something? I'm certainly not the only one who notices him getting heavier, leaving, coming back heavier
MindlessSelfGuitar No he just dropped drugs and apparently started working out.
Dude thats what happens when you get older
@genonegative That's not true. He can still play drums. He quit for different reasons.
Hope you didn't lie on your CV when you applied to play for Trent...
awesome. what else is there to say? just awesome.
thanks for posting this! friggin awesome!!!
300
This is so cool
What kind of bass is that?

It's clearly a Musicman Stingray.
It’s a Musicman Stingray 4 string one pickup.
