Our Work Process:
1. Come up with questions, research, script, come up with opinions/commentary, polish until ready for recording.
2. Record voice acting the stories/questions, sharing thoughts and opinions and performing it in a creative and transformative fashion for viewers to enjoy.
3. Record gameplay until there is enough interesting footage to use for the background
4. Throw the gameplay in the editing software and then begin typing up the captions, cutting/trimming the voice acting, adding SFX, color correction, removing/adding clips, etc.
5. Final review of the video, if video is not up to the quality desired for this channel. Either go back into the editing software, re-record some lines, change opinions/commentaries.
These kits don't destroy families. Lies and omissions are what destroys them. Though I have no idea why that one woman got mad her SO was a sperm donor. He didn't create the kids the natural way, he wasn't in contact with them and he wasn't paying a bunch of money to the mothers. It's possible the man needed money when younger and that is easier than donating plasma.
This right here is why i don't donate mine cuz I'm afraid it will screw me over down the line and I don't want kids anyway but when your veins aren't big enough to donate plasma this fs would've helped during some rough times. Now I'm thinking of donating now more than ever cuz I need the cash and am at a crossroads
the issue with sperm donation is you gotta be like the ideal male. I've heard 6 foot is the minimum and they prefer at minimum a degree or working on it with a 3.5 or greater.

We all knew that my sister was an intimacy assault baby but the guy admitted to it on his deathbed and she decided to do a dna test. . . He was a serial rapist and my sister has over 30 half siblings

Right? I was going to say something similar. The DNA sequencing sites gave people the truth, if that truth about their actions results in divorce or other family issues, that is the result of what they did, not the test.
It's like a brother taking his sibling's car without permission and wrecking it, and when their sibling reports the car stolen before filing the insurance claim says "You ruined my life!" Rather than accepting that stealing a car ruined their life.
Wait until those testing companies get complacent and start making mistakes with people’s names and test samples.
There’s a good chance somebody will be put in prison for a crime they didn’t commit because of this “irrefutable” evidence being used to convict them.
This is why forcing people to get DNA paternity tests after a child’s birth isn’t a good idea because now you and your child’s DNA is on some government registry somewhere just waiting for somebody to abuse it and you or your kids. .

DNA testing companies shouldn't get complacent. That's why there needs to be strict policies and procedures as well as independent test labs.
It's the only thing that men have to protect themselves from baby mama's wanting to get money from them. Also, there are more than one DNA testing companies in the states. You can get 2 or 3 DNA tests done from independent companies. If all of them give the same result, then the choice is obvious.
It's funny... the only people that I've ever met in my life who opposed mandatory DNA tests at birth are women with questionable motives...

My dad found out he had a sister he didn't know about at 47 years old because she took a 23andme test. Apparently my grandpa had a second family no one knew about. He would "travel for work" and stay with his other family for a week at a time. What's up Aunt Kathy.
From what I know here in the US, more than 20% of people might be calling the wrong person 'Daddy.' For decades we've punished men for skipping out on child support and only recently has it come to light how many men have been wrongly accused. The fault lies with the people who cheat, not the children.
In story 5, I would've done the test because familial DNA can solve crimes. It's not impossible for a rapist to go on to murder, so the DNA connection could help solve cold cases
I read an interesting book about this topic. By the woman who sort of pioneered it. Can’t remember her name. It’s called something like forensic genealogy or similar.
I’m reading comments before watching the video, but cold cases have been solved that way. A cousin of the killer got the DNA test and authorities were able to find the killer by looking at that person’s relatives.
That was my push when people say things about my dna being stored and I’m like well I don’t plan to do anything horrible and the types of crime with that immense levels of dna are the ones that have no damn reason or excuse.
God can you imagine having an abusive family and learning that they're not your real family due to a mistake. That you could have had a happy, functional family but it was stolen from you. I can't imagine the sheer conflicting thoughts learning that would cause. On one hand your life wouldn't have been the same, you wouldn't be you, and you wouldn't have met your spouse or had your kids... but on the other the thought of having a better, functional family and a happy child hood. Not to mention the conflicting thoughts about the other baby. On one hand you'd resent them for taking what is supposed to be yours, but on the other know they're blameless and you'd be subjecting them to the same trauma you had to go through if it didn't have. I just can't imagine what that one man had to go through
My adoptive mother was like Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s mom, Munchowsen By Proxy. My oldest brother was adopted, as an infant in NY, then they moved to Texas. I was adopted as an infant there, then mom had an affair while dad was in Vietnam (they both had affairs and moms was retaliatory when she found out) and my mom conceived my you get brother. THAT is when she fell in love with one of her kids. They split up, and my brothers dad introduced my mom to his friend who became my step dad and I got another little brother out of it. WE. NEVER. TALKED. ABOUT. IT. She died at the age of 52. All those fake illnesses she had, and we “had” are cruel. I don’t till the 9th grade in special ed classes, my younger brother “remembers” me having seizures due to Epilepsy that I never had. There are doctors out there that do not give a rip. My mom could find a quack without a damn duck call. The summer between 9th and 10th grade I finally had enough courage to say I was not taking the anti seizure medication anymore, her reaction was “well if they find you dead in a ditch somewhere don’t come crying to me!” But I hated how the meds made me feel. For the first time in my life I made a couple of friends, and started to feel a little better about myself. Crazy people are out here living amongst us, and I despise all the adults in our lives that just let her be crazy, and left us to deal with her. Step dad left, our dad did the bare minimum, he didn’t even fight paternity back then, he just left us with her. My grand parents, my aunts, they all failed us. My baby brother has fetal alcohol syndrome because it was the 1970’s and they were part of the drinking culture. He has serious health problems and lives with me, all because she was a selfish C•nt.
23 & Me did not destroy any families at all. The lying, whoring, irresponsible actions of people destroyed the families. They just got caught and are STILL not taking responsibility for their atrocious actions. They just thought they could get away with doing dirt forever. Stop lying and cheating and there won’t be anything to “find out”.

Did 23and me. My parents were who they were supposed to be-no surprises. No mistresses, no hidden siblings. Everything normal. Should I be surprised that I come from a Normal Family?

Don't be surprised, you got the expected results. We just don't hear that as often because the atypical stories of affairs and surprise siblings are far more exciting.
1 in 4 will be surprised at the results. 1 in 10 find out their parents are not their parents.
I’m an Aussie and did a My Heritage test last year which got lost in the mail on the way back to Texas for testing. So I had another one sent out this year and discovered that we had a half sister from our dad who had been a bit of a womaniser before mum finally kicked his butt out. The sad thing is that he died last December, and he never knew about our sister. She was placed into an orphanage and he would never have allowed that if he had known. He was a crappy husband but a great dad, very financially responsible always for us. If that test wasn’t lost he would have found out about her but it didn’t happen and I think that for some reason he was not supposed to know. It’s sad as she will never meet him and have him in her life. She had a great adopted dad but a narcissist adoptive mother who has done an awful lot of damage to her. Our dad would have arranged for someone in the family to have adopted her so that mum didn’t find out and the thought that she was placed up for adoption would have distressed him terribly. The great thing is that mums entire family have completely accepted her. Our mum said that she didn’t ask to be born and as she is our sister that makes her family. She is spending Christmas this year with us and mums family. My mum is the coolest, 87, and has just accepted our sister as if it was nothing. Love you mum ❤️

Fortunately, my story has happy outcome.
At age 73, Ancestry found my birth mother (still alive age 90), a brother, 2 sisters, (well, half) and dozens of cousins (grandma had 14 children).
They only found out about me in 2006 when mom's husband died and she spilled the beans.
They had been looking for me ever since and put DNA on Ancestry.
A very happy ending with several trips there, Thanksgivings and Christmas, and possibly me relocating there later this year! 😊

I did 23andMe principally because my mother had Alzheimer's and I wanted to know if I was predisposed to it. My sister had had hers done and she didn't inherit that Gene either assuming my mother has it. After the test the first thing I did is, walked up to her and said "Well, I told you I wasn't adopted".
My mom found out she has an older half brother.
Apparently, my mom's dad had a one night stand right before he started dating my mom's mom. My grandpa didn't know until the other woman's parents called his parents saying that they were going to pay for their daughter's hospital bills. My grandpa's parents paid and made everyone promise to never talk about it.
The baby was adopted and no one knew about him. Recently, he did a dna test and got a first cousin hit. He contacted her, who then put him in contact with my mom. Mom did the test as well, which confirmed this guy is my mom's brother. They ended up meeting in person and it went well.
Ugh, having similar issues. Knew I was adopted from birth, but only had bio-mom info. My Mom was always super worried about me leaving her behind for my bio-mom despite my instance she was the only Mom I cared to have. Did 23ndMe for genetic health purposes since I didn't have any bio info and wanted some idea of what to watch out for. A year later my half-brother from my bio-dad messaged me after doing a test(his bio-Mom was adopted) and my Dad has been having a huge breakdown since he suddenly feels threatened for the first time in 33 years, and my Mom is angry at him because he never understood/supported her fears and he got upset when she pointed out that this is how she felt my whole life. Now their marriage is strained, and I feel awful because I never once felt that anyone but them were my parents but I know its caused my Mom so much anxiety for years. I almost wish I never took the test, even though I did it for health reasons, and never once expected that the ancestry part would come to anything.
😮I did ancestry but made my results PRIVATE. I did not receive or disclose any relationship information. My father died at 26. He was a Marine who fought in Korea before he met my mom. I don’t know or care about opening up anything.

This is not your fault. It's completely understandable that you would search for your bio-parents.
I have a story regarding my Dad’s mom and their family.
Long story short, Dad had an older sister he never knew about. Us kids went to grade school, from 1-6, with our first cousins. One of my teachers told a girl in my class and myself that we could be sisters.
Found out 50 years later that what she said is true!
We are first cousins.
Grandma and Grandpa gave up their first born child.
Grandmother’s sister got pregnant at 15 or 16 and the baby was put up for adoption, my grandmother is the only one still alive that knew about this. I think it was one of these sort of tests that let her meet 60 years later.
It's not that I'm trying to avoid learning unpleasant truths about my family. I just don't need my DNA in the hands of people that are not my doctor. But these stories make me extra glad of the approach I've taken.
I get the point, but trust me, unless your someone ultra relevant, no company will care about your DNA.

fun fact: your DNA is in your blood, skin cells, teeth, hair, saliva, mucus, perspiration, fingernails, urine, feces, and more. So when you lost your baby teeth as a kid, or when clip your nails, get a haircut, go to the bathroom, sweat at the gym, get a papercut, drink from a cup, sneeze or cough while sick, or even just exist (you're constantly shedding dead skin cells), you're always releasing some of your DNA into the world in one way or another. And you know what? So is everyone else.
I don't care for the "I don't want other people to have access to my DNA" argument because if someone really wanted to, they could easily get their hands on your DNA. Even a handshake with someone could result in that. If that's what's holding you up, I honestly wouldn't let it since it's such an easily disproven argument.

@@Holdonc A lot of health issues can be genetic, if that data gets leaked or is accidently given out by you or a relative to heath insurence companies, they will probably charge more for anyone that could carry said gene
That someone discovered they had inherited a nasty genetic tendency that was also going to be affecting existing children and possibly even existing grandchildren.

Seems to me that people's genetics are the fault of their parents. I don't see how the genetic testing service is even remotely responsible.
There was a mistake on my sisters test where it said she was only 2% Irish heritage, my Dad never met his father but was always told he was an Irish man from Dublin. My poor dad starting thinking maybe his mum lied to him etc. Turns out it was just a mistake with the test
My wife and I bought 23andme kits and haven't used them yet. I think we don't want to risk finding out things we wouldn't be happy knowing.
Everyone has 500 or so malicious genes in their dna.
I have the genetics for diabetes.
I have to do a lifestyle change before I get diabetes.
You might find out what will kill you when you are 80.
They are learning more and more about combating genetic diseases every day.
You might be able to change the way you age.
As for who had sex with whom.
Its in the past.
Hopefully no inbreeding though.
They should have everyone do dna tests at birth.
Make sure every child knows who the real parents are.

I have a mild story on about such tests. When i was in my early 20s my mom got everyone a genetic test. It mostly confirmed what we knew: english, german, swiss and French Canadian. But i, my brother and my father had some germanic jewish ancestry. My father did not know about it. 5 years later i was visiting my great uncle (father's maternal ) and he started talking about how his father was a ethnic Jew who fled northern germany in the interwar period. So we got confirmation of the DNA test.
My biological father was my mother's first husband. He claimed my whole life I wasn't his and his family believed him. I ended up now at 47 with major health issues and decided to do the DNA test to prove to my bio dads family I was his. He died yrs ago so I didn't have to worry about dealing with him. I proved it with a DNA test my uncle did. He wanted to prove his brother right. He failed cuz it shows he's my uncle. He at least was willing to give me my family's medical history on that side. Most of that side of my family doesn't want anything to do with me cuz I guess I'm a reminder of how awful my sperm donor could be
I'm the child nobody knows about. My mom is a fruitcake so I don't know how much of what she's said about my father is true, but my DNA is out there now and if it's who she says it is, I should have three younger half-siblings in Florida who likely don't know they have an older sister. Don't know if we'll ever make contact, but I'm here if they ever do.
If tests come back inconclusive or surprising, get another test from a different company but keep that test private so strangers don’t contact you until you are ready. These companies MAKE mistakes.
These tests aren't perfect, but if the second test says that's not your child, then likely not your child
When we see clearly, we do not expect the foundation of our life to be lies. Clarity is better than lies any day.
Taking one of these always makes me nervous but only for my mom's side, my aunt (on my dad's side) did full blown research into all our family members and their names in the family tree dating very far back (it created 2 giant folders of only names) so we know who we're related to on that end unless someone had a surprise kid

I would urge caution to anyone considering trying to connect with relatives they've never known after info revealed by a DNA test. My cousin/best friend was given information about his bio dad that the family never wanted him to know about from a stranger who learned of her relation to him via a DNA test. Upon learning these things he spiraled into severe depression, cut off everyone for hiding the truth from him and ended his life shortly afterwards. There is a very good reason why in light of his mental health struggles the family didnt want him to learn that his bio dad was a serial predator against minors and groomed his mom when she was a teen and preferred he believed his dad was dead.
I feel sad for him that his family his the truth from him for so long. If they had been gently transparent with him instead throughout his life it may have softened the blow. Heartbreaking, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Yeah the assault children are tricky. No idea how they set their system up, but if there are those situations they should have red flag alerts for... hell I don't even know, something to intervene to try to mitigate that kind of information from being dumped on someone like a bomb.
23 and Me confirmed something I had long suspected. One parent was of French and Spaninsh ancestry from their mom's side of the family, but I learned to make flour tortillas from scratch by hand from this parent, who learned it from their mom, and so forth back in time. There are two places where both France and Spain held as territory - New Orleans/Louisiana, and Mexico, and only one has a history of tortilla making. I was not surprised when the results showed 8.9% indigeneous American (more than Elizabeth Warren) and the area was shown to be the area in and around what is now Mexico City.
Interestingly, it showed I am also 1.1% Azkehnazi Jew and 5% North African/Near Middle East ancestry - not surprising given the intermingling of Mediterranean people.
I'm sorry no one deserves to be French.

Anyone see the Netflix show Our Father? That is literally a worst nightmare come true about 23&me. The story is pretty similar to number 11.
A couple of my siblings did 23andMe, and except for finding an unknown nephew, results matched what we were told growing up.
I will def *NOT* be doing any of these DNA tests now. My dad is a pos & i might find out more terrible things he’s done.
dna tests are accurate 95% of the time, other 5% is very weird results, for example that me and my grandma are identical twins.
I don't have such a weird result on my DNA test, but I do have a shared match who is various levels of cousin to me as we share DNA from 7 different family lines. The DNA test says we are closer cousins than we actually are due to the large amount of DNA we share.
In the video, the one with the no DNA test result, aka... Lizard one, made me chuckle... But I'm guessing if the man retook it now... that error likely wouldn't happen again

for story number 2 its very likely that her saliva dosent have enough DNA in it for her to be tested that way. its not un heard of.
What is more likely is that the father is the CEO of 23andme and he doesn't want to share his riches.

My niece recently found out she isn't my niece, her stripper mother was also going home with random guys that visited the club she danced at, turns out her father was down here in Atlanta doing construction work and took her back to the room. The messed up part is my parents raised her because my brother isn't any better of a person than the mother so ..
I want to do one of these, my middle daughter has done one but of the four of my kids she doesn't quite fit in physically and personality, she was also born when my ex wife and I were going through stuff. I don't know what i would do, it may be relieving but upsetting at the same time, i raised her and love her but we don't get along or really even talk anymore. I wonder if i could sue my ex wife and get the child support back i paid her all those years?
Couple years ago my cousin was in high school and told me about a brother and sister who were very popular both were very attractive. They were often teased about how hot their sibling was well one day they took a 23andme they found out they werent siblings. They figured 1 of them must of been adopted so they started having a sexual relationship lol they werent shy about it either. They were showing their friends in school videos and pictures of themselves doing it but since they told everyone they were siblings it was ok nobody freaked out. Well one day while they were getting it on mom walked in and caught them turns out 23andme made a mistake they were bio siblings. It spread like wild fire in the school lol mom and dad separated and each took a kid to keep them away from each other. According to my cousin the sister was horrified and needed a lot of therapy but the brother lol bragged to him how he didnt care and wished he could keep having sex with her.
That was VERY messy

I have known my whole life that a sperm donor is what made me. I'm interested in seeing the results of a test but it occurs to me that this man who donated in 1981 has a right to his privacy. He gave me life, but owes me nothing. So if I took the test and found the guy, it seems likely I would also find a lot of half-siblings including whatever kids he went and had intentionally. So I don't have a right to involve myself in his life or family, despite my curiosity. I'm wondering how many former donors who by now likely are near retirement or maybe in their 40's like myself. I don't think they ever thought that we would have things like this test and the internet. I also think this puts off potential donors today because they know they might later on have their wife answer the door to 20 kids they never knew about. I think the right to privacy of the donors is one that needs to be taken into account. They jacked off in a cup and they owe us nothing.

I don't have a right to find someone who was promised anonymity in the first place to see what their views may be. Its not my right to intrude into their life. Five years ago, I found out thru 23&me, that my father was not my biological father. I am the oldest of 4, and was very different from everyone else in the family. I discovered two living brothers and several cousins, as well as 2 aunts and an uncle who are still living. One more thing....when I found out the truth, i was 70 years old !!
23 and me revealed my aunt wasn’t my grandpa’s daughter. My grandparents came clean and admitted they had been swingers during the hippie “free love” era and that she was likely conceived at one of their parties. They had always suspected it as my aunt didn’t look like my grandpa but they had decided not to confirm it because they wanted the plausible deniability. Caused a lot of drama that Christmas.
I am 59. Just found out in December that my dad who died last year isn't my father. Explains a lot. The family I grew up in was abusive and I always wished growing up that I would get adopted. Funny how things turn out. I don't know who my father is yet but know the family. I would like to know the name of my father but don't care to ruin anyone's life. Mine has been bad enough.
The user error one could be a chimera, where one twin absorbs the other in the womb. So you have two sets of dna.

I have no interest in taking a DNA test as I don't have all that much contact with anyone other than my siblings by my own choice and I really don't care if there are other family members out there and I don't want any family that I don't know contacting me. In the last two decades I can count on one hand how many times I have had contact with any extended family.

For years Asians would ask me of I was Asian. Then Iraqis and Afghans would ask if I was from their countries. Even a few Native Americans ask about my heritage. Took the test and at best I was point zero zero one percent Asian and Native American. Though they still call me Walking Eagle for some reason.

On my 21 or 25th bday I got a 23andme kit I didnt want to know anyone in my birth family im adopted and unlike families who hide things I was informed of the truth at a young age. my mom and possibly dad did drugs and didnt know how to take care of me or my brothers we were all put up for adoption as infants im lucky my adoptive parents took all 3 of us in when they were originally planning to get one. for the longest time I would tell people my story not being embarrassed or ashamed till I got older and started to fear how folks would look at me. but for most of my life I wanted to know my origin where was my family from just the genre was I Swedish or Chinese or German? (cause of school assignments. hated feeling like a blank slate) when I got my results back from the test a few days after my bday I was thrilled to know Im irish british and scottish all three places I loved growing up but never been to them it explained alot. Im thanful to my adoptive parent everyday.
Yeah, I will never take one of those tests. Not because of the family implications type stuff, but because those companies share your info with the government.

You can be surprised those genetics are worldwide. What you really have to decide is if you want to open the past. I did and I met my past and what would have been my reality and decided that I did not need to indulge in that road and closed the door. I know the door exists and know where it is and I know what i'll find on the other side of it and it doesn't interest me.

The last story really has me scratching my head, because if he contacted a grandmother, and the grandmother is confused on why he would want no contact with her son/his father, did the possibility of the whole rape thing being a lie cross his mind?
I mean, his side of the family didn’t know he exists, and evidently his father isn’t in prison over it, and his mother wants him to know nothing, yea, there’s too much cover up going on.
Very few rapists are ever reported or convicted. Many women carry the rape to their graves because we're so traumatized. It's also very common for women to be disbelieved, accused of lying or having remorse for sex. We face being shamed, shunned, even cast out of the family.
You should read up about trauma from SA and how many victims have been treated and are treated.

My daughter did a dna test and we were surprised that she had a lot of Italian ancestry but i pointed out my family are Scottish and there was a large influx of Italians 140 to 100 years ago. Im curious to do a test myself to see if it shows up on my results too. Strangely though i was probably conceived in Italy where my parents were on honeymoon. 😂

My husband had an interesting result that we can only explained by making some serious assumptions. Husband is 15% Italian. Maternal side is known. Paternal grandfather was western European mix. Paternal grandmother was supposed to be 100% French. We think that's where the Italian comes from but without his dad doing the test he can't confirm it's from the paternal side.
Story 2.23 and Me did not destroy the relationship. The adult son did that on his own. He should have been grateful he was born and taken care of until his adulthood.

I have no idea what they're doing with my DNA after that test and, you cannot get your DNA back or have ownership of it afterwards.
They probably throw your spit out after it goes through the centrifuge. As for the DNA sequence it's probably stored in the system. You may want to worry about that.
Story 3... Well 23 and me does not use a swab, you have to fill a vial with saliva.. so if he was using a swab, he was clearly doing something wrong
If the second sample fails, you can ask for a refund. Also, lots of HOW TO instructions to follow (hint if you want to fail the test on purpose): Do not eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, brush your teeth, or use mouthwash for at least 30 minutes prior to providing your sample.
Yeah I did ancestry dna and got linked to a family I didn’t know then got a private message from a girl saying her dad is my dads brother…come to find out my married grandmother had a side piece who was also married and 2 of her 4 children are his! She took that secret to her grave! Wish I never took that test!

I was adopted, and as a result of 23 & Me I learned that my Yup'Ik and Iñupiat ancestors (Native to Alaska) were colonized by the French.. My distant African ancestors were colonized by the Germans, and my West Asian family was basically destroyed because of wars..I also have a small amount of DNA from India that I have no idea about.
Not only an identity crisis, but fuck does it hurt to know my family didn't survive colonization... :(
Still, I'd rather know the truth, no matter how hard it is on me.. It just sucks for so many reasons. Because of the colonizers in my family, I did not get a chance to grow up with Iñupiat or Yup'ik culture or Indigenous culture at all. I'm terrified to claim ancestry because I don't wish to be labelled a colonizer as well even though it was my ancestors who were colonized in the first place.
Many of my DNA matches are largely European and I can't help but be very sad about what happened..
My wife and i did 23 and me. My family is fine and it matched to what our family told us over the years. No drame. This is like saying if youbget a speeding ticket its the cars fault

So, my friend, has very swiss heritage.
On one side are people from the central lowlands and the other side is from one of the beautiful and well known mountain regions. They're assumed to be 100% pure bread bünzli (national joke, dont mind it).
Well... they did the test. 25% english.
Sure is a weird coincidence that grandma worked in hospitality in above mentioned mountain region,
that was overrun by english tourists at the time. Wonder how that could've played into this.
