14:10 Motion Detection can detect people breaking into surrounding Vehicles or errant Shopping Carts set in motion by hurried Shoppers. With a loud Car Alarm you can see who is trying to break into your Vehicle, especially if it has wide angle front and back Cameras. Use of GPS to measure short distances or while you are varying your speed is bound to produce inaccurate results. BTW, your Video appears to be perfectly good when streamed. The quality and the great results at night are sufficient for me to add this to my 'Low light / High ISO' Playlist (which has Standards to meet, but categorically this Camera is amongst the best; but still quite low compared to some of the others which record bright colours (British spelling, just for you) in Star light). We really enjoy your 'Review Style' and your thoroughness. A great Channel to visit.
The production value of these videos is fantastic. Techmoan deserves plenty more views than he is currently getting. Wish people in the States cared more about Dashcams as you folks over the pond do. Bought a Mini 0806 on Techmoan's advice and was pulled over a month ago by a cop who claimed I was going 83 mph in a 65. Told him I had the GPS attachment that could prove "the truth" in court. He told me to have a good day and stay safe and went on his way. Best money I ever spent.
+azuser55 Thanks for the positive words - looking at the dashcam video viewing figures it seems like I may be spending a bit too much effort on this sector - I thought I might be ahead of the curve - but perhaps people have already moved on.
13:05 Re: accuracy of the lap times. The booklet states it has a 10Hz receiver. That translates to a reading within 0.1 of a second on average (source is car forums which I guess should be taken with a grain of salt).
Another brilliant episode! I've been waiting for a dash cam exactly like this. I kind of put off at the absorbant price yet the sport cam would look appropriate in the windshield of my sbc powered 1985 toyota celica. Take care TM
Ah, that time if year where you come home from work and it's already dark... love it. -_- At least it's easier for you to film, not like in summer where you have to stay up till 11 to get some near-dark shots.
I find that the accuracy of the GPS speedometers on phones and dash cams are better than the ones in the car. Well, more accurate at least. The ones in cars are usually wrong to make you drive slower than you think you're going. I've tested this with police speed controls, both laser and cameras, haven't been stopped yet :P
Been running a DOD LS430W for close to two years now and just love it. My only complaints are the battery is barely more capacity than a capacitor and the memory stick is difficult to remove.
Thanks Matt for another interesting review. I thought that the video quality, especially in the night, was pretty dammed good for a dash camera. Agree that if you're not going to use the "speed" features then go for the cheaper version.
Great vid as per. Surprised you didn't mention the similarity to the G1W cams, it looks like a modified one of those, has the same mounting mech too (which on mine is annoyingly wobbly no matter what I try).
+googleboughtmee It's probably more that the G1W looks a bit like the DOD cams - DOD as a company started off in 1993 their LS430W first appeared on Amazon in May 2013 (the LS430 was a few months earlier) but the G1W showed up on Amazon later that year. I reviewed the LS430W in December 2013 th-cam.com/video/aLFZuKSYiZs/w-d-xo.html and the G1W a week or two later.
+PhantomMark Interesting - There's always a variety of different rules in other parts of the world - some countries don't allow anything to be mounted to the windscreen. Some parts of this video will only be appropriate to viewers in other countries - or perhaps people in the UK who can use the same track day vehicle all the time and mount the camera with the adhesive mount. I'd always recommend that people read up on the rules in their own country/county/state etc.
+Techmoan tbh I would not imagine even the adhesive mount would be allowed in the windscreen on a trackday these days, they are super strict about such stuff now sadly, even in our race cars we have to have a secondary means of keeping the camera attached should the primary mounting fail
Hello Techomoan, I noticed you had another camera in your windscreen as you were doing this demo. i'm guessing that camera is the one you use daily. would you please let us know what system you have chosen to use on your cars. thanks Tutman
Hi mate, I bought a G1w CB a few weeks ago after watching your review for the G1w.... Does yours still work? I bought it under £30 and love it and just hope it lasts over a year.
+gorvic1 stabilisation is not common in action cams, presumably because it adds to the cost. In a dashcam with a good mount stabilisation isn't really necessary.
Wow; pretty nice. I got the SP5000 wifi...this looks better. (Especially if you really want a DASH-CAM's features. I'm gonna have to think about this! Thanks!
Techmoan, I am looking for a dashcam camera and this one seems fantastic though I'm not in need of all the racing/track day features. Are there any substitutes you'd recommend that are just as impressive in day and night situations?
Another great review! How does the video quality compare to the mini 0806? The mini 0806 in superfine mode is 20 something mbps and the dod is 15.26. Also, i've heard that the mini 0806 can sometimes have overheating issues, do you think anyone of these 2 dashcams will have overheating issues here in the UK? I'm torn between which one of these 2 dashcams to buy...I would appreciate your advice. The cost is not an issue. Cheers!
+DjK Productions one is a tiny budget camera and the other a larger high-end model. If the cost and size isn't an issue then I'd get the high-end model with a warranty every time. As much as I like the 0806, it's not a robust device. As for quality, download the clips I've made available for both devices and decide for yourself. Remember though that the footage from dashcams is really normally used to show what happened in the event of an accident, so if you can see that a car jumped the lights and drove into your car then it's done it's job, even if it's not up to IMAX quality.
I should imagine Mr Plodd would be very interested in the text files in an even of an accident, it would also give insurance companies a good idea if that particular Saxo chav-mobile has any engine mods too. lol I'm surprised it's battery powered and not capacitor, I hope it's not a lithium power cell.
+2Old4Toys based purely on my own experience....I find that Mac computers handle MOV files natively but use additional software to play AVI files and with Windows computers it's often the other way around, where they prefer AVI files. There's very little in it though.
+Techmoan Can .AVI store GPS information and such? Is there a software difference regarding the format usage as a container for miscellaneous information along the main video part? I know this question may be way too broad, but I've asked anyway.
+garlicson I find it is more than enough. I run my cable from my cigar lighter, under the dash, then up the A pillar to the headliner. I then run the cable just under the headliner to where on the windscreen I want to attach my camera. 3m is just about enough for that, but 4m is plenty. 5m would allow a rear camera.
+sanjuuyonsai I didn't change anything - but somehow it's showing as unlisted now - I've changed it back to public, thanks for the info or I'd never have looked.
So what car are you driving there, feels kind of snappy, even with your untrained 7 second run. :-) I'm not _that_ type of person either, but my car brings out the devil in me. :-D
+Techmoan Only if the vents allow free passage of a cooling air stream. In this case it looks more like a design flourish than an actual feature. One other detail that I do not like on all of these dashcams is the use of fixed mini USB sockets used as a power connector. These types of connectors were never intended for operation with high levels of vibration making them prone to failure in a car. Then there is the fixed entry position which can make mounting a headache, an issue you have raised in the past. A better solution IMHO would be a short pigtail terminated with a more robust connector preferably with some retention mechanism. This looks to be a very competent dashcam but the "motorsport" aspect is questionable and more likely to encourage hooning by young male drivers on public roads but at least the evidence is self damning when the police actually see this kind of behaviour. Kharma :) If you want performance data logging far more capable systems are available for sale and hire at legitimate track days.
Thank you DOD dash Cams, for bringing Mr. Techmoan back. Now all we need is a "YESnanas machine" to be sent to him.
11:29 "I'm not going to really floor it"
Floors it.
LOL.

Although I live in Sweden, a country where it is forbidden to have dashcams, your review was very good. Thank you!
Another brilliant episode! I've been waiting for a dash cam exactly like this.
I kind of put off at the absorbant price yet the sport cam would look appropriate in the windshield of my sbc powered 1985 toyota celica. Take care TM
Techmoan, how many action cameras do you even have? I think you can make a warehouse with those cameras.
Nice thorough review. Thanks for sharing the downloadable clips.
Ah, that time if year where you come home from work and it's already dark... love it. -_-
At least it's easier for you to film, not like in summer where you have to stay up till 11 to get some near-dark shots.
+Manny Calavera yes it's a lot easier to get the footage for dashcam reviews in the autumn.

As much as I like my Mobius, the night quality of cameras such as this one makes me want to upgrade one day!
LS460W is nearly twice cheaper, apart from the sport mode, is it identical?
Oh, another awesome review, thank you!
Superb review, as always. Thank you!
Does anyone know if this camera or other DOD models have a -3:30GMT time zone option?
+andrew8675309 Yes it does, in addition to the full hour+/- there's a -2:30 -3:30 -4:30 as well as positives of these and a +05:45
+Techmoan Awesome, thanks! I've always enjoyed your videos, keep up the great work!
There is a new app in the app store for mac, thats called iQ player, would be nice to see your review of it. its a new dash cam ap
Great vid as per.

Worth noting that suction cups are NOT ALLOWED at all in the UK on track days, or in racing.
+PhantomMark Interesting - There's always a variety of different rules in other parts of the world - some countries don't allow anything to be mounted to the windscreen. having difficulty finding this camera from a reputable U.S. dealer... I really need this for my EVO
I'd say the 0-60 things are meant for using on the road rather than a track day, as you can't do 0-60 or 60-0 tests on a track day.
Hello Techomoan, I noticed you had another camera in your windscreen as you were doing this demo. i'm guessing that camera is the one you use daily. would you please let us know what system you have chosen to use on your cars. thanks Tutman

Excellent features but what about video stabilization, no such feature in dash-cams, why?
Thank you for the nice review Mat!
+gorvic1 stabilisation is not common in action cams, presumably because it adds to the cost. In a dashcam with a good mount stabilisation isn't really necessary.
Do you know of any video monitors in the 7" range that has an HDMI input and can be plugged into a 12VDC cigarette lighter socket?

Gap... or actually overlap between clips seems the same as in G1W.
What is a good program to stitch together dash cam video clips?
hi, any chance to do Dome D201 dashcam review with latest ambarella a12 chipset? your channel is super. cheers
Another great review!

Can you please review the lumix DMC-FZ7 Panasonic camera
I should imagine Mr Plodd would be very interested in the text files in an even of an accident, it would also give insurance companies a good idea if that particular Saxo chav-mobile has any engine mods too. lol

Any benefit to recording in MOV vs AVI format? Apologies in advance if it's a daft question...
+2Old4Toys based purely on my own experience....I find that Mac computers handle MOV files natively but use additional software to play AVI files and with Windows computers it's often the other way around, where they prefer AVI files. There's very little in it though.
ta very much for the reply moanie

*****
It's obvious. I am talking about how optimized the storage of additional data and its usage in both formats generally.
Hey, Right On! price material What do you think...
Why do so many new products still use the USB Mini-B connector?
Another great video - where can I get one of those feelworld branded small monitors from? Many thanks
+J273 This was the one I bought - amzn.to/1uuHMGk
Thanks for the review! Just wondering, what are you using as a day to day dashcam? I think I saw a 2 input unit installed in your car?
thanks for the info! Keep up the great work. A;ways look forward to new videos from you.
Where can I get one thru the u.s market??? Thanks!!
Would be great to get a dashcam that does not go out of focus when left in the car on a warm to hot day
Looked up the website for "Feelworld," which is already funny enough, but their tagline is hysterical.
How many cars do you own? I am bad but i have lost track of yours :) Smart roadster, IQ, Mini.
What's that monitor you are using for your PC?
i'm very curious about cable routing inside your car.
4m length cable is it enough?
+garlicson I find it is more than enough. I run my cable from my cigar lighter, under the dash, then up the A pillar to the headliner. I then run the cable just under the headliner to where on the windscreen I want to attach my camera. 3m is just about enough for that, but 4m is plenty. 5m would allow a rear camera.
its a nextbase copy or its the same firm what makes em n change the name
is it the same mouting mechanism as the transcend ones as you've reviewed? (sorry for bad grammar)
Yes. Most dashcams use the same mounts
Speed in GPS is'n calculated in that way, instead it uses doppler effect and its more accurate than positon.
This VS the Philips ADR810? no motorsport and MIC needed
I mean, I always look down on "First"ers, but now I'm here... WAHT DO I DO
Techmoan what is that small camera you've got behind rear mirror ?
+FFPThomas it's a Koonlung k1s
+Techmoan , thanks :) btw. you've got super reviews !
can you turn the speed you are going off..
Huh? Did you make this video private?
+sanjuuyonsai I didn't change anything - but somehow it's showing as unlisted now - I've changed it back to public, thanks for the info or I'd never have looked.
You have got a John Cooper Works then?
So what car are you driving there, feels kind of snappy, even with your untrained 7 second run. :-)
I'm not _that_ type of person either, but my car brings out the devil in me. :-D
+Lasse Huhtala it's a Mini Cooper S.
+Techmoan What happened to the Smart Car, did the misses snatch it?
+TekReview's it's parked on the drive.
First!!!
Oww missed it again. :P
Fwoar... for £230 is should be good :-D
this looks a lot like the Nextbase 402g dash cam...
+MrGareth66.com >> the NextBase (UK) is cheap copy of DOD-Tech for UK market, DOD-Tech is worldwide recognized brand...
+Team-Liquid pro game most things from China are sold under man names and are all the same thing....
vents on the bottom to help it to work in hot environments... pfffff
+Sjoerd Beukers yes, vents let hot air escape from a camera case. Sealed devices are more prone to overheating.
+Techmoan Only if the vents allow free passage of a cooling air stream. In this case it looks more like a design flourish than an actual feature.

Forth.
It would make Prize to giveaway😀
4 unlinked that's bad
Meanwhile, in rural Wigan...
+zooblestyx Well it was rural Standish really. :p
i suggest Sony Action cam with MUCH better software, GPS and data records
+Maxim Mee but thats not a dashh cam... works different
He he... deep slot
looks like a fancied up g1w for about 7x the cost.
Definitely not worth £230

If you didnt talk like a machinegun, it would be possible to understand at least the half.
