goodness me, 25mins just flies with your review.. very entertaining review of all.. i cant watch this long review with others but your presentation is something is takes off all your questions on that product and left with how much money is left in my bank afterwards.
I am not one for demo videos but this one is good. You DON'T go on and on about trivia and keep on repeating yourself and saying erm erm erm all the time. Very very good. Quick - to the point - good links - good info. I am subscribing to your channel.
Thanks again TM for another great review. Following your review of P2, I immediately bought one and found it an improvement on SJ4000, particularly for navigating the Menu - the only drawback is the 'over-sensitive' On/Off. I invariably accidentally catch it when changing the battery, otherwise a great little camera.
judging just from the youtube clips, i feel like the P2 has a much more natural image... the P3 looks kind of oversharpened, and the P2 seams to have more detail... Could be just me though... The xiaomi seams to be a little bit out of focus, that is a common problem with the Yi i think, but i think it can be adjustet fairly easily...
polymath By now i got my very own Xiaomi Yi, and mine was out of focus too! had to open it, adjust the fokus very slightly (just a few degrees on the lens was all it took), and now the image is MUCH sharper!
Nice review. I live in the U.S. and just purchased a pair of KDLinks X1 dash cameras for my primary car and one for my daughters car, as she is a new driver, still training. I am one of those people wanting a better camera that has realistic instruction manuals and I wanted something that can easily be used in Apple computers OS X. The KDLinks X-1 fit the bill, but I only found it after viewing your review on one of the pricy DOD models. The KDLinks X1 has a lot of noise on the display and I am just figuring out how to get the best use out of it, but it similarly has higher and lower operating temperatures than older models, such as a Lukas 5900 that is about 4 years old. My wife uses that, but thanks to seeing these reviews I may very well try to find a comparable model in the USA or have it shipped internationally. The LUKAS products used to be pretty top of the line, and you pay top of the line prices, around $280US, but they are very large. The newest ones are huge as well, but they try to sell them as black box cameras, but the KDLinks, DOD or the Philips seem to have every feature that the Lukas cameras have save the 2 camera options or ones that will plug into the OBDII port. Only one model from Lukas has a viewer that works with Apple OS X and that is a problem as are poor manuals, with some more additional stuff available through .pdf files, but again computer translated, which isn't very practical translations in real life situations. The KDLinks is made in the USA, at least that is what they advertise, but they also push the 6 glass lenses. They seem similar to the top Philips monitor at night. What I didn't see in the review was how the cameras coped with rush or dawn through streets with shadows. That is the one thing that the KDLinks seems to have issues with, as it takes a second each time the light changes and at dusk and dawn the light is constantly changing. I didn't know how the Philips brand cameras would handle the same situations, but the constantly moving ISO, makes it seem that it could handle it just as well. The DOD dash camera said it didn't work with the Apple OS either, just windows, so that made the decision rather easy and the DOD was priced even higher. I do like that these cameras are all black. Why KDLinks and others feel that its necessary to put cheap looking chrome paint on trim is not very logical. KDLinks uses a suction cup, and it has the GPS above the lever on the suction cup. It has the micro USB port on top so its easier to run the wire up through the ceiling and side panels as well, but it looks as if the 810 solves the situation with the right angle plug. I really liked this Philips 810, and I usually keep the camera muted, as I might have a few rude comments, and in court that might mess up the whole case. If you could answer the question on the dusk and dawn coverage while moving through the trees and building that are a bit higher, it would really cover things clearly for me. Thanks again as this was very informative. I don't know about customer support after the fact either. KDLinks is great and gets back to you the same day in most instances. Regards, -Dave
Thanks for the great review. I was keen on this as I was convinced it would be better than the P2. Based on your review I'll be purchasing a P2 instead.
Thanks for another great review! I have used a couple earlier version GoPros. I have been using a Kodak PixPro SP1 for several months in the USA and now in the Philippines. I am quite happy with the video quality and it handles low light better than my early model GoPros. It is a bit heavier than I expected but quite usable.
The round building on west Mosley street at 7:27 do you know what building that is or the address? it reminds me of the Grain buildings I am writing a thesis about.
If you can attach something like a washer or ring (a plastic seal gasket, sort of like a flattened o-ring) on the top of the camera encircling the power button, it will act like a recessed button and be less prone to accidental activations. You can get copper gaskets like the ones used on some hydraulic fittings, or a plastic one. It might not fit in the waterproof housing with the ring surrounding the button, so it could be impractical.
I agree! It's not only the sound quality that's better on the P2, I definitely like its picture quality more as well. There's a terribly aggressive edge enhancement present on the 120fps clip, which is rather ugly,
Maybe the Mic in is using the pin 4 which isn't routed out on an ordinary USB-lead. Otherwise the correct mic-cable has a resistor between pin 4 and 5 which tells the camera to switch over to mic-in.
Excellent review, thank you. I was looking forward to this one because I basically wanted the amazing P2 with 60fps. Sadly it appears to me(?) that the P2 is actually the better camera? And at half the cost of the P3... Very disappointing really. Part of me thinks if I'm spending £110 on a P3, I'd rather just pay the extra £100 and get a GoPro HERO4 Silver.
Have you tried hacking together a LIVE miniUSB to get the mic to work? perhaps the mysteries of the 5th pin on the connecter that is not present on hardly any normal miniUSB is the key.
Have you checked out the firmware update on the P2? It now has a car mode parameter which gives you a dash cam setting separate from your regular video capture settings.
Thanks for the review (I love your style, keep it up!) I've been looking at getting an action cam for a while and after watching ALL your videos I've gone for the P2! I was hoping the P3 would be the one but it seems inferior to the P2.....
Hi According to one review i read about the Dazzne P3 he states the following about the MIC usb output. It appears that an external microphone can be plugged into the USB socket which is labelled with the word "Mic", however unlike the Git1 they don't use the GoPro pin layout so a GoPro compatible microphone does not work and since Dazzne don't appear to sell a compatible microphone or any sort of adaptor to convert to GoPro, PC or any other standard microphone connector I couldn't find a way of testing this. Im not sure how he knows the pin layout is different though ?
Hi Mat, thanks for sharing your reviews on the Dazzne P2, P3 & Xiaomi Yi. I just ordered a P2 and perhaps the drift stealth later (based on your reviews). Since I'm not really a pure gadget freak and would like to stick to the bare essentials first, I have chosen the P2 due to its simplicity and quality videos. If the P2 is capable of motovlogging using an external mic, I would be happy to try it out. There's no reviews on external mic working on the P2 and P3 currently. Please show us the links or review of it that it does. For the price paid, I believe it is still better to get a higher end camera that is suitable for motovlogs. Thanks!
I was about to buy one of these but disappointed to find you cant plug an external mic in. Although I had seen advertised mic input cables for the Dazzne but they are out of stock everywhere. a bit of further investigation is the camera looks for a 330k resistor across pin 6 and 10 to switch to external. I might still buy one and try it out.
+Techmoan Do you think you'll do a review of the $80 ASX ActionPro-X? With 1080p30 and a huge 170 degree viewing angle (specs listed), it seems like a good camera. There are no good reviews of it yet.
I wonder about the mounts between the SJ4000 GoPro and the Dazzne they look compatible but In my experience the Mounts for the GoPro are about half a mm too big I managed to mix between a Gopro mount and a SJ mount it was hard getting them together and now they are stuck. Techmoan could you please check that as well?
There are two input jacks. One is a mini (not micro) USB port for the charging & HDMI cords. What is the other port for, and what standard is it? (It isn't micro USB either). I can't find a cord which fits into it (and I have a few different cords).
Thanks for another great review Mat. My preference is for the P2 as well but I'm trying to establish whether I can attach the camera only to a tripod/ monopod etc. without using the waterproof housing in order to achieve best audio. Can you help ?
Looks like they brought out the P3 before they really did all the testing needed. From your review the sound on the P3 is terrible compared to the P2 and the video is also not as good as the older P2. In all, if I was in the market for one of these cameras I'd be buying the older P2. Just my 2 cents worth. Cheers and thanks for another great review.
Do you have any interest in testing the SJ7000? It looks extremely accessories packed and is supposedly on par with the SJ4000. Your opinion will be very valuable! Thank you.
Love your videos, just a small point - Xiaomi is pronounced shiaow mee (with the vowels pronounced quickly). I know in English we would get closer to a "J" as you said, but that sound is closer to "zh" in chinese pinyin. eg. Guangzhou, which is more like Gwang-joe. Great videos though as always.
I've followed Dazzne official on Facebook ,they've launched microphone cable for P2,P3 wifi.for IOS APP you can download the newest one from Apple store now,it is so much better now.about the audio issue, they've told that they are updating and testing the firmware.look forward for it.
I got confused about what you were saying about the USB mic problem. Were you saying the problem is on both the P2 and P3 or on just one of them? Which one? Have you found a solution yet? Thanks.
Do you think the video and audio is as clear in the p2 plus as it is in the p2? Definitely considering p2 over p3. Thanks for all the helpful videos by the way.
hope you can see this. i´m looking for a camera right now to mostly wear on a helmet. what would you recommend for less than 100$? :) will be used at dawn so a little better night time view would be pretty nice
hi, do you happen to know if the SRP blurfix3 or blurfixSO 55mm adapters would be compatible with the dazzne p3 housing. I'm really wanting to explore p3 macro capability :)
Hi Techmoan ! The difference between the P3's and Xiaomi's images lyes in a sharpening effect. It's very common amongst cheap cameras as they use sensors of lower quality, so the internal processor/encoder is set to compensate the lack of sharpness. You can spot the effect on dark objects over a light background, their contour is sharpened with a darker line inside the object and a lighter one surrounding it. In comparison Xiaomi was smart enough not to force sharpening, thus delivering a much smoother and natural-looking picture. I think most of the time the sharpening effect is way exaggerated or even unnecessary, especially with a "real" HD sensor (720p or more); fortunately you can turn it off on some cameras like my Mobius (with recent firmware). By the way I can tell there are lots of fake HD cameras that only upscale the image (since the sensor is 480p or less) and applies a huge amount of sharpening. Keep going with the action cams reviews, we are always looking forward for good advices ;)
Mat, do you remember having Protune ON/OFF for the footage you recorded? The reason the video was so unnaturally looking might be protune option turned ON. Do you remember perhaps?
+sjcamguides Some shots had it on and some off. It's labeled as Quality in the WiFi app rather than Pro-tune. It's shown as Pro-Tune in the camera. I noticed very little difference between having it on or off - other than I think it changed the bitrate.
Thanks for clarification. Usually protune should show neutral colors to enable better post-production and color correction. But now that I put my own footage side by side, I am unable to see the difference except the bit rate as you mentioned. Thank you.
+sjcamguides I think they used the GoPro's Protune menu description because it sounded cool, but on the Dazzne range it's really it's just a quality menu that's been relabelled. It's the same way they added a RAW menu option in the White Balance menu on the P2 - which doesn't have anything to do with RAW video.
+sjcamguides I have no problem with that. I'm not 100% confident that everything I say is completely accurate, it's just from my memory, so you might want to double check things yourself.
So is this a viable replacement dashcam? My Mobius is showing some age what with the $50 type C lens melting in the sun and what not. This looks good but I sort of like the P2 video quality better.
+Michael Norman I don't see why not, the P2 will function as a dashcam, the cheap bare-bones kit also includes the cradle that you'll need to be able to attach the USB power lead whilst it's mounted to your windscreen.
Well, I've just spent this months water bill on a £25 camera, this one will be a dedicated quadcopter camera, hopefully saving the GoPro 3+ BE from terminal damage or loss. On the fast button tap switch on, I've found my GoPro will turn on with a fast button press and have found I've had a flat battery when I've needed to use it. :( How about a Techmoan review on powerbanks?
+Green Silver I've plenty of power banks - but there's very little to say about them -they provide 5V DC at 1.0 or 2.1 amps. they do exactly what you expect it to do. Pay for a bigger one and they supply power for longer, are larger and also take longer to charge.
I disagree, the powerbank thing is a minefield, my 1st one had big claims but didn't deliver. It must be an eBay thing, my latest Xiaomi came from Banggood and is excellent.
+frollard I've never bought a cheap one....I buy expensive ones when they are discounted. Power is something that's not worth cheaping out on. Whether it's a car 12V power adaptor, a wall charger or a power bank...cheaply made, cheaply sold power supplies are always something to avoid. I use a Veho Pebble VPP-005-EXP power bank. amzn.to/1IKz53p It has a two digit LED display which shows the current charge or discharge status and had two 2.1 amp outputs that can be used simultaneously.
Great review as always! Was hoping the external mic was going to work on this one but seems like no luck there. I'm going to go for the Gitup Git1 Pro I think as that comes with a external mic and a remote, have you had a look at them at all?
+Dave Hughes They've been in touch....but I feel I've reviewed enough cameras that are similar to the Git1 so i've asked them to send me the Git2 when it's ready. I'm interested in testing out the first budget camera with image stabilisation.
Fair enough mate. I want a camera for motovlogging so the external mic is important and lacking on most budget cameras sadly (unless I've missed something?). I asked Gitup about the Git2 and they said 6 to 8 weeks before production starts so fingers crossed it's a good camera! Will probably get a Git1 to be going on with though :) Very odd choice of company name though! lol
Hi. Have you tried the 1.10 firmware, which is supposed to fix the sound recording issue? www.dazzne.com/article/detail/id/65?lang=en_us Also, any updates on the Video quality? I purchased a P2 on your recommendation, but am interested in WiFi and was wondering if you could do a review of the Dazzne P2 Wifi vs the P3. Thanks!
Hi Techmoan. Great review, thanks for this, especially given the chinglish 'instructions'...i'm a bit bemused. I noticed you don't have the FOV option under video settings. i do not either. I have written to dazzne support and also on their facebook page, but no joy. The widescreen is nice, but not always apt. Have you any info re this? Thanks ahead.
+Gillian Morrison FOV is on the P2 but not my P3. If you watch the P2 review you'll see that it's just a cropping in of the image. So when you use the function your video is reduced in quality from the original 1080p.
Thanks for the quick answer. But why include it on the instruction manual, and surely an upgraded camera might accomodate variant FOV settings? Dazzne are on a nationalholiday at the moment. I'll let you know their reply. Thanks again.
I just feel it's worth pointing out that the low-light comparison you did may have been a bit unfair. If the P3 was set to 60 fps (which I assume it was) the low-light performance will suffer as each frame has less exposure compared to a 30 fps mode. Just something I feel is worth pointing out. Still wouldn't do as well as the Philips I'm sure.
+MrCods. Motovlogger yep, really wanted to be the first to get it working, tried lots of things (a few hours of work not on the video)....but nothing. Still got to think it's a misprint until Dazzne sell an adaptor. Why wouldn't they include one in the box or sell it separately...unless of course the functionality isn't actually there.
+Techmoan You might want to check Dazzne's facebook page. They posted the usb pin layout and also posted promotional mini usb to 3.5mm mic in cables. the strange thing is, they aren't selling them on the home page store nor their aliexpress shop. see the 3rd or 2nd to last post: m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=309710979212916 - facebook.com/dazzne/photos/pcb.425673114283368/425672560950090/?type=1
+unphoto This reply came from Dazzne support and was posted on the P2 review."Thanks for getting your e-mail.I am Cathy glad to assist you. Our Dazzne P2 camera is only support external microphone with Definition Interface cable. We are not produce it.if you can get this cable, them it can work good."Maybe that will help.
When you compare the Yi to the P3 I don't think that the P3 has any more actual resolution, it looks more like the P3 is just post processing some sharpness in. I think the best result would be very little sharpening, definitely not as much as the P3, but like I said the Yi looks to use none and does look a bit soft.
This question was asked by John Ridley on the P2 review but didn't get answered. Can you comment please? Will it retain the stills taken while doing loop recording even after the loop is deleted? i.e. if you have it set for 15 minute loop will all of the stills keep being saved until the card is full. That way you can have a record of a very long journey.
+Techmoan Thanks for that. Looking at the cheaper basic kit I see that it comes with a useful frame mount that would give both a tripod mount and easy access to power in. The full kit appears to omit it which is very odd. Not available as an accessory on the Dazzne site either which is even odder.
+Deluk Well I've tried it this evening on the P2 in dashcam mode and it's a bit odd. It's been looping the video over a 4GB card all evening but the camera only took a total of 30 stills at 5 second intervals before it stopped recording any more stills. This is on the most recent firmware. P2 V1.16.20150530 . I'll try the P3 tomorrow to see if it does things differently.
+Techmoan Does this help? Looks like there is a much later firmware to solve this From the P2 review From DrangueosHi, I always watch your reviews and I really like them. I bought a Dazzne P2 based on your review, great camera for the price. I'm having a little problem, I've set it to make 3 minutes videos and to take a picture every 30s while doing the videos, but after 15 minutes it stops taking pictures. I already tried 3 times and got the same problem, let me explain: It made 40 videos of around 352mb each (as I set to 3 minutes videos) between 21:26 until 23:24. It took only 30 pictures of 330kb each between 21:26 and 21:40, so basically after around 15 minutes it didn't take any pictures. Did you or anyone had this problem? Do you think my camera is faulty? Cheers, Leo drangueos 1 month ago +drangueos +Techmoan I reported this problem to Dazzne and their support was great, Cathy Zhou from their support team was always helpful and they made a new firmware that solved the problem. The firmware is not on their website yet, version is P2_V1.17_Release_20150715 and should be there soon.
I'd imagine peoples opinion is skewed as the P2 comparison to the P3 was 60fps vs 30fps, which will result in a more lossy encoding process due to the higher frame count. Also the WIFI app might struggle to stream live because of the bitrate being streamed at 1080/60, maybe turning it to 30 fps will make the preview smoother?
+IdeasByGamers This whole video is in 1080p30 so any issues with 1080p60 streaming are not a factor. You can download some samples if you want to try them for yourself (non-streamed), or alternatively buy both cameras and compare them yourself - I went to the expense to do this so you didn't have to, but if you prefer the P3 video quality to the P2 then you can buy one from the link in the video description.
You posted in the video there is no image stabilization - but the chipset itself should come with it - is it just not working or did they opt not to include that feature?
That P2 looks like a pretty decent and quite cheap little camera. Especially with the basic package. I see you have a Vectrex up on the shelf! Does it still work?
+Rusty Winegar Yes, I've got a couple. Here's a (really old) video I made with one of them th-cam.com/video/imhbTB8AXKs/w-d-xo.html If you like the Vectrex, make sure you take a look at Vectrex Roli's channel th-cam.com/users/VectrexRoli
+skypjuh that depends on your definition of budget. Don't forget when doing your value comparison calculations that the Yi doesn't come with a waterproof case, two batteries, an external charger, a load of mounts, and a colour LCD screen.
Techmoan well ofcourse it depends on the persons definition of budget... I'm just saying that the naming of the video as "Dazzne P3 BUDGET..." might be a little...off.. When you've made other video reviews of camera's also with"Budget" in the title that cost about half as much.. Not saying you shouldn't review them or anything.
+DaVe TheWaVe Yes - during the battery tests section I mentioned that these were done with the LCD screen turned off -the battery times quoted are with the LCD screens off.
The xiaomi default focus is not at infinity, all drone pilot know this, and also the xiaomi tends to over reduce noise in video and photo, making them look soft, but adding sharpness is really easy in post
Thank you for thoroughly reviewing this cam. I had never heard of it before. Q: If you were to choose between the Dazzne P3, Dazzne P2, sj 5000 and sj 4000 comparing them all in terms of 30p videos of course and taking the video quality as the decisive factor, what would it be? Thanks for bearing with me 😅
Oh, I'm sorry. I actually meant the sj5000 Plus, of which I'm pretty sure I watched a review of yours :) Would you say it has better video quality than all the above? Thx again
The gopro mic in cable you bought is one of the cheap Chinese ones that don't work. I bought 3 different cheap ones (2 like your one and 1 that comes out at 90 degrees) and none work because they don't have the right resistor (or sometimes no resistor at all) between the ID pin and a ground pin which let's the camera know what cable is being plugged in. Ended up buying a £10 cable off amazon called the BOYA, great quality, worked first time and no problems in months
+Techmoan sorry no, I can't confirm that as I don't own one, but I can tell you that the way these cameras switch from using the internal mic to using an external one is by the size of the resistor in the external mic cable. If you know someone with a working gopro mic cable and try that, I'd put money on it working. I don't know how those cheap Chinese mic cables are allowed to be sold when they flat out will never work. It's the size of the resistor that tells the camera what type of cable is plugged in, which is how they "know" what to do i.e send video out with the AV cables, or mic in with an external mic cable. Sorry I couldn't confirm it for you, and you probably knew all of that ^^^ already, but I hope it somehow helped you or someone else at least
+Techmoan Tested - and the Boya cable does not work either - I've now tested three different 3.5mm to USB adaptors both with two microphones (which work elsewhere) without any success. It's still wait and see on the Dazzne mic adaptor. If an official adaptor gets released from Dazzne then I'll test that too.
+biscuitsalive I use a Mac and will need to buy (and learn) Final Cut X £229 - but I've got a lot better things to do right now and I'm hoping that iMovie adds full 4K editing on the Mac then I will know what I'm doing and won't have to spend a penny..
+Techmoan I highly recommend Adobe premiere pro cc. U can get a free 30 day trial. And then pay by month if u like it. The Adobe suite has everything u may need. And premiere is very easy and fast to use.
+Billy Cordero it probably costs something to implement, ultra wide angle lenses mitigate the problems but I'd imagine that if it was a standard built in feature on a sensor then it would be used more often.
Techmoan So it's lens that creates image stabilization ? I thought it was a sensor or just firmware. Are there any other action cameras that have it other then Sony or Polaroid ? I currently have the SJCAM 4000 WIFI very happy with it wish it had the image stabilization. Thanks again
+Techmoan Hi. Techmoan, really like your video, wonder if you have interets in making a video for our camera? Amazon US www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ccbetter+camera&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Accbetter+camera
I'm starting to have doubts on the eBay P2 now, lots of negative feedback popped up and one says about a false tracking number. I can't find my tracking number on any China post tracking site. :(
+Green Silver I wonder how people have done when ordering via the Amazon links. If anyone has any additional info, positive or negative, please post it here.
Their reply to my enquiry regarding their questionable tracking number. Dear ********* Thanks for your email. As we checked from the post office, your package might be lost in transit. We are deeply sorry about this problem. Sometimes this happens and it is very frustrating and out of our control. Is it OK if we refund you full payment for this order? Sincerely we appreciate your generosity and hope you can forgive us over this issue. Best regards, Customer Service Department Catherina 20
They've offered it then said they re-sent the camera. I should expect it within 10-20 days, I've asked for a correct teaching number but so far they've failed to provide one.
+Green Silver I'm in the UK and in the same position as you and received the same message from "Customer Service Department, Catherina 20" I paid diblogistic2 - is that the same seller as you? A few more -ve feedbacks have appeared stating false tracking numbers, and non-delivery. I'm going to make a direct claim for a refund when I can in 2 days time. I wonder if anyone has received a P2 from them?
+Gregory Kennedy I really don't know for sure - however I'm a good 93.78% sure this is a legitimate Dazzne P2. The same product is for sale on Amazon too - and is in a new smaller box with the minimum of accessories.
See last comments are 8 months old...mmm maybe someone has had this issue: happens on both SD cards I have although different makes but both class 10 32gb cards. When recording onto the one card it will record a 4 minute clip and then stop recording for a few seconds and start recording 20mb clips all with a few seconds missing between the clips. Tried the other SD card and it was fine until our ride yesterday when i heard the camera stopping record and the starting again (switched on beeper so I could hear through helmet) anyway its much better with this SD card and only have 3 20mb recording but all the clips arent on their max or equal size. Should I send it back to the retailer for an exchange? I bought it for the 1080P 60FPS. 30FPS just too low for the dirtbiking to my liking. Would appreciate any help thanks.
Hi! Could you please do a review about the Hawkeye Firefly 6S? It looks like this camera beats the sjcams ;) It has a very professional image stabilation and can record in 4K :OO But it's too good for 126$ I'm sure it has a few problems :DD Sorry for my bad English, but I really want to see a review about this camera, so I thought you would be the best person for that ;)
Your reviews are the most comprehensive videos I have seen to date.
goodness me, 25mins just flies with your review.. very entertaining review of all.. i cant watch this long review with others but your presentation is something is takes off all your questions on that product and left with how much money is left in my bank afterwards.
I've just ordered P2 after seeing this, for 34$, shipping included. Thanks for the review Matt.
I am not one for demo videos but this one is good. You DON'T go on and on about trivia and keep on repeating yourself and saying erm erm erm all the time. Very very good. Quick - to the point - good links - good info. I am subscribing to your channel.
+PJ Jones thanks. I try to edit out any erms as much as possible. I do say them from time to time, but you shouldn't have to listen to them.
As always, excellent review, thorough and concise in layman terms! - Great work Matt!
judging just from the youtube clips, i feel like the P2 has a much more natural image...
the P3 looks kind of oversharpened, and the P2 seams to have more detail...
Could be just me though...
The xiaomi seams to be a little bit out of focus, that is a common problem with the Yi i think, but i think it can be adjustet fairly easily...
+muh1h1 I agree - the Xiaomi Yi footage is clearly slightly out of focus - you can see plenty of proper Yi footage on youtube.
polymath
By now i got my very own Xiaomi Yi, and mine was out of focus too! had to open it, adjust the fokus very slightly (just a few degrees on the lens was all it took), and now the image is MUCH sharper!
There's a terribly aggressive edge enhancement present on the 120fps clip, which is rather ugly,
Thanks for your huge effort in comparing them (even with the YI).
Maybe the Mic in is using the pin 4 which isn't routed out on an ordinary USB-lead. Otherwise the correct mic-cable has a resistor between pin 4 and 5 which tells the camera to switch over to mic-in.
Nice review as always. ........
Have you tried hacking together a LIVE miniUSB to get the mic to work? perhaps the mysteries of the 5th pin on the connecter that is not present on hardly any normal miniUSB is the key.
philips ADR810 is the New Dashcam, right? Very good Video as alsways. When will you make another Hifi Video?
+JPRMusik I've got some more AV videos planned. Hopefully I'll have sonething in a few weeks.
Hi
According to one review i read about the Dazzne P3 he states the following about the MIC usb output.
Per Dazzne, a cable will be available before the end of September to allow an external mic.
+Richard Wasserman That will be great news (if it happens). It will make the P2 even more of a bargain.
Techmoan,
What light is that left of screen when you review the sound at about 21:50?
+Generic456 it's a mishmash of a few different things that I stuck together. The light was originally attached to an arm on a photographers table.
Did you update the Xiaomi to the latest firmware? It can now record at 2304 x 1296 30fps
As always a great review.. Another awesome post.. Simply the best..
P2 great AUDIO and VIDEO. How does it compare to the higher models like SONY Action Cam's, and Go Pro's?
Thanks!
any chance of you doing a review on the SJCam M10+?
I was about to buy one of these but disappointed to find you cant plug an external mic in. Although I had seen advertised mic input cables for the Dazzne but they are out of stock everywhere. a bit of further investigation is the camera looks for a 330k resistor across pin 6 and 10 to switch to external. I might still buy one and try it out.
just bought the P2 for $35 US after watching this video, thanks for the heads up!
In terms of wifi connection for a quadcopter the xiaomi or a gopro with a wifi extender are the 2 best bets I've seen
I've followed Dazzne official on Facebook ,they've launched microphone cable for P2,P3 wifi.for IOS APP you can download the newest one from Apple store now,it is so much better now.about the audio issue, they've told that they are updating and testing the firmware.look forward for it.
Great video! Is it possible to do a review of the custom firmware for the Xiaomi Yi? It allows it to shoot in 2K.
Thanks for another great in depth review
P2 image quality looks much better. P3 shows a larger amount of software sharpening witch produces horrible halo around objects.
+johannes914 exactly! How does no one else notice this? It looks really terrible.
Sadly people have been accustomed to oversharpening, from bad screens and "converted to HD" TVshows....
Well said. Do you mind if I quote you on this one on the article about DZP3 I am writing? Will link back to your review of course.
+sjcamguides I have no problem with that. I'm not 100% confident that everything I say is completely accurate, it's just from my memory, so you might want to double check things yourself.
"I am not going to tell you what dashcam this is..." uhm, look at the bottom left, it shows the model name i think :D
+muh1h1 Lol. That's the model alright.
+muh1h1 I noticed that too and lold xd
Philips ADR810 indeed
So is this a viable replacement dashcam? My Mobius is showing some age what with the $50 type C lens melting in the sun and what not. This looks good but I sort of like the P2 video quality better.
+Michael Norman I don't see why not, the P2 will function as a dashcam, the cheap bare-bones kit also includes the cradle that you'll need to be able to attach the USB power lead whilst it's mounted to your windscreen.
Why is NTSC and PAL still a thing?
+Niklas Bergsten For video out. Some analog displays still need this.
How about a Techmoan review on powerbanks?
+Green Silver I've plenty of power banks - but there's very little to say about them -they provide 5V DC at 1.0 or 2.1 amps. they do exactly what you expect it to do. Pay for a bigger one and they supply power for longer, are larger and also take longer to charge.
I disagree, the powerbank thing is a minefield, my 1st one had big claims but didn't deliver. It must be an eBay thing, my latest Xiaomi came from Banggood and is excellent.
+Techmoan Cheap battery banks are GARBAGE! The high frequency switching noise is enough to drive you NUTS!
I recommend anything Ankor branded
Will probably get a Git1 to be going on with though :) Very odd choice of company name though! lol
Did anyone else notice the purple fringing on the edge of the left wing mirror between 8:32 and 9:10
Hi. Have you tried the 1.10 firmware, which is supposed to fix the sound recording issue?
www.dazzne.com/article/detail/id/65?lang=en_us
Also, any updates on the Video quality? I purchased a P2 on your recommendation, but am interested in WiFi and was wondering if you could do a review of the Dazzne P2 Wifi vs the P3.
Thanks!
i wanted to use like a gopro like external microphone. is that also work better like a gopro or not.
+halsoy Both cameras were set to 1080p30. This was explained in the voice over.
Techmoan Ah, sorry. I only posted that as I didn't hear it said in the voice over (must've missed it). My bad then.
+halsoy Not a problem. All low light tests were done with all cameras in 1080p30 mode.
You lost me with the Mic input :( Other than that I think its brilliant
Such a shame really. Would be a great cheap alternative to the more expensive name brand one :)
+Techmoan Tried contacting the manufacturer and asking them about it?
+Jesse Crandle I recommend you pick the one you prefer, I have no horse in this race, I own both cameras.
+Deluk it will take me a while to test this, but I'll give it a go and report back.
Looks like there is a much later firmware to solve this From the P2 review
From DrangueosHi, I always watch your reviews and I really like them.
I bought a Dazzne P2 based on your review, great camera for the price.
I'm having a little problem, I've set it to make 3 minutes videos and to take a picture every 30s while doing the videos, but after 15 minutes it stops taking pictures.
I already tried 3 times and got the same problem, let me explain:
It made 40 videos of around 352mb each (as I set to 3 minutes videos) between 21:26 until 23:24.
It took only 30 pictures of 330kb each between 21:26 and 21:40, so basically after around 15 minutes it didn't take any pictures.
Did you or anyone had this problem? Do you think my camera is faulty?
Cheers,
Leo
drangueos 1 month ago +drangueos
+Techmoan
I reported this problem to Dazzne and their support was great, Cathy Zhou from
their support team was always helpful and they made a new firmware that solved
the problem. The firmware is not on their website yet, version is
P2_V1.17_Release_20150715 and should be there soon.
You have to have a mic with it's own power to work. Has a separate battery on my Audio Technica. Then plug in to the P2. So it's not a mistake.
You posted in the video there is no image stabilization - but the chipset itself should come with it - is it just not working or did they opt not to include that feature?
+R56 HS Also, surprising how poor the video quality is when you line the two side by side at the end of the video there.
Nice review again. I think that the mic thing is refering to the hdmi input and not the usb. Have you tried to put it there?
+! tomekyo I've never seen a mic to HDMI converter cable....
;-) I thought you had all the converter cables in the world ...
Looking forward to the sony review. Please review the AS200V
Thanks
Can you please review the 'Eken H9' action camera?
That P2 looks like a pretty decent and quite cheap little camera. Especially with the basic package.
I see you have a Vectrex up on the shelf! Does it still work?
+Rusty Winegar Yes, I've got a couple. Here's a (really old) video I made with one of them th-cam.com/video/imhbTB8AXKs/w-d-xo.html If you like the Vectrex, make sure you take a look at Vectrex Roli's channel th-cam.com/users/VectrexRoli
at 168 USD, can it really still be considered budget...?
especially when you compare them to the SJ4000 and Xiaomi Yi who both come in around 60?
+skypjuh that depends on your definition of budget. Don't forget when doing your value comparison calculations that the Yi doesn't come with a waterproof case, two batteries, an external charger, a load of mounts, and a colour LCD screen.
Techmoan well ofcourse it depends on the persons definition of budget...
I'm just saying that the naming of the video as "Dazzne P3 BUDGET..." might be a little...off..
When you've made other video reviews of camera's also with"Budget" in the title that cost about half as much..
Not saying you shouldn't review them or anything.
+skypjuh I'll take out the Budget.
Hi! On p2 and p3 is it possible to shut off the lcd screen to have longer recording time?
+DaVe TheWaVe Yes - during the battery tests section I mentioned that these were done with the LCD screen turned off -the battery times quoted are with the LCD screens off.
+DaVe TheWaVe did you even watch the video?
The xiaomi default focus is not at infinity, all drone pilot know this, and also the xiaomi tends to over reduce noise in video and photo, making them look soft, but adding sharpness is really easy in post
Thank you for thoroughly reviewing this cam. I had never heard of it before.
Q: If you were to choose between the Dazzne P3, Dazzne P2, sj 5000 and sj 4000 comparing them all in terms of 30p videos of course and taking the video quality as the decisive factor, what would it be?
Thanks for bearing with me 😅
+big M I pretty much did that in this video - and my answer was the P2, but there's always the chance a new better camera will come along.
Yes, you did but I added the sj5000 to the comparison. I'm not sure you mentioned that, or did you??
+big M I've never used an SJ5000 so don't know about that one.
Oh, I'm sorry. I actually meant the sj5000 Plus, of which I'm pretty sure I watched a review of yours :)
Would you say it has better video quality than all the above? Thx again
+big M I didn't like the SJ5000+. Out of all those (today) I'd still pick the P2.
Would you say the P2 wifi camera is a good Idea of purchasing or should I just get the original?Nice review btw.
please review the graava camera
When you buy from china do you have to pay any taxes or import duty into the UK?
I have a feeling the next dash cam video is gonna be the philips adr 810
Jonas Lindenblatt I can? Oww never noticed that
Its a no brainer really. I liked the softer video of the P2 and for £25.79 well how can you go wrong.
Hello Techmoan is this better than SJ5000 plus? still debating if I should grab this or the SJ5000 plus
Thank you,
J
+Joseph Balintag I really didn't like the SJ5000+ in my opinion it's a bit of a disaster.
Thank you yeah just saw your review on sj made my decision going to get this instead a lot better than the sj5000 thanks again
In what position would you put the SJ5000+ compared to the P2, P3 and Yi?
+jolmeaki last of all in my experience, it's a buggy mess.
+I 3 BIG C 3 I just to clarify, you are using this cable with a Dazzne P2 and it's working for you?
+Techmoan Sorry, just realised I forgot to mention in both messages I have a Hero 4 Silver
+I 3 BIG C 3 I Well I ordered a Boya cable - it's due to arrive Tuesday, so I'll find out soon.
+Techmoan Tested - and the Boya cable does not work either - I've now tested three different 3.5mm to USB adaptors both with two microphones (which work elsewhere) without any success. It's still wait and see on the Dazzne mic adaptor. If an official adaptor gets released from Dazzne then I'll test that too.
you should review the foxeer legend 1
Hey @techmoan , What would you say is the best budget action cam? I wanted to buy one for skiing, surfing, etc...
+GuigasFolOfficial The Dazzne P2
You don't need much money to edit 4k.
What are you using now? (Hardware/ software)
+Techmoan especially if ur on a Mac. (I'm on iMac)
+biscuitsalive Look at HitFilm 3
Techmoan enjoy your reviews BTW why is image stabilization feature ignored on these action cameras?
Cc Better does your camera have image stabilization ?
Thanks
Very nice review. You cut the mustard and keep it up :D
So Techmoan : From an overall Quality Point of View (day/night) what's the best between : Yi / M10 / P2 /P3 ?
+Marouen Ben Moussa its either the P2 or the Yi. Download the samples I've provided for both to see which one you prefer.
Nice find on the P2 barebones. Can't say no to those prices!
+jonno85uk Under £30 for a 1080p camera...and a decent one too with a LCD screen - is just plain crazy.
Yep. Just picked up the last 1 at one reseller for £27.
keep it going! greetings from Saudi arabia
In Germany this Cam costs the same as the old AS100V but i think the AS100V is better than this one what you think? 189€ AS100V Dazzne P3 159€
+The777X I'd definitely choose the Sony.
Dear *********
Thanks for your email.
Best regards,
Customer Service Department
Catherina 20
+Green Silver OK - so you've got your money back?
They've offered it then said they re-sent the camera. I should expect it within 10-20 days, I've asked for a correct teaching number but so far they've failed to provide one.
+Green Silver I'm in the UK and in the same position as you and received the same message from "Customer Service Department, Catherina 20"
I paid diblogistic2 - is that the same seller as you?
A few more -ve feedbacks have appeared stating false tracking numbers, and non-delivery. I'm going to make a direct claim for a refund when I can in 2 days time.
I wonder if anyone has received a P2 from them?
hey @techmoan , I see that the P2 is only £25! is this legit or is it a fake. I used the link in your description. PLEASE HELP!
+Gregory Kennedy I really don't know for sure - however I'm a good 93.78% sure this is a legitimate Dazzne P2. The same product is for sale on Amazon too - and is in a new smaller box with the minimum of accessories.
+Techmoan OK, thanks for the reply. I'll probably go for one around £55. that comes with the 4 sticky mounts and battery dock. Great review by the way
+Gregory Kennedy The P2's with frame mount only at £25 are genuine. I sent for one because I wanted a frame mount and spare P2.
+Gregory Kennedy the links he gives are to the real camera
I'm starting to have my doubts now, I guess my payment is covered though. The seller has only been trading a few months and sells as private listings.
i think its a good cheap camera to put on things where it might get destroyed
8:53 Beautiful car!
Would appreciate any help thanks.
forgot to say its on the latest firmware
well thats saved me some money i thought the p3 would be a little better ... but ill buy the p2 ..cheers
ADR810?
btw, for 4K edits, maybe look into transcoding / proxies. ;)
+Techmoan what is your favorite high speed camera on a budget?
Hi!
Could you please do a review about the Hawkeye Firefly 6S?
It looks like this camera beats the sjcams ;)
It has a very professional image stabilation and can record in 4K :OO
But it's too good for 126$ I'm sure it has a few problems :DD
Sorry for my bad English, but I really want to see a review about this camera, so I thought you would be the best person for that ;)
