Laksa is uniquely Malaysian and Singaporean (they were part of the country historically speaking). It was born out of the interaction of the first Chinese migration and the local malay population and the local cuisine (14th century). The Chinese brought noodles (which is called mee) and wheat because prior to that the locals only ate rice . There were no bread until the indians brought "Roti" and Chinese steamed "Bao"/ Pau in Malaysia. The British brought baked leavened bread.

The spicy noodle dish you ate is called Kari Laksa. The stock is chicken-based. Laksa Johor on the other hand is fish-based, and is typically prepared in Malay food eateries.

Many have missed out the Kelantan Laksa or more known as Laksam which is not spicy at all but uses the similar grounded fish and bunga kantan etc.

Over here curry laksa it self has a few type. Normal curry laksa, nyonya laksa, ipoh curry laksa (it has a certain extra aroma to it), over in Penang you find the white curry noodles, and if you just order laksa you get a fish base soup which is sour and spicy(tamarind base)then you find a lot of versions of laksa around Malaysia. And if you go over to sarawak, they have the Sarawak laksa which taste very different again.

Generally each state in Malaysia has their own laksa and each has their own distinct taste and flavours. Should just use a fork for the noodles and yes we call the vege sawi too

In Malaysia there's variety type of Laksa. Different state have their own type of laksa. Laksa noodle is make from rice flour and the gravy/broth/soup are base from fish but each state have their own way of cooking style. Most famous are penang Laksa, Assam laksa, Laksa Utara, Nyonya laksa, Laksam, Laksa Johor and many other. Laksa johor using spagetti and fish gravy are thick. If you want to try Laksa Johor at Johor Bahru you can try at ' restaurant Pondok Santapan Larkin near the Bus Station majorly opened for breakfast and if you want to try other authentic Johor cuisine you should try at the restaurant too

Although I'm now living in Malacca, Singapore is my place of birth. Stayed there till 12 y.o. so I know. There's no such thing as Laksa Singapura. It was all along Laksa Johor. In Singapore it was either standard Laksa(well known as Laksa Utara) or Laksa Johor. What you had there was the fusion recipe of Nyonya and Malay/Indian recipe known as Curry Laksa. Singapore is well known for Nasi Rawan, Mee Rebus and Satay.
Whatever kind of laksa available in Malaysia, they're all uniquely delicious despite it can be quite spicy. Have to try many times for one to get used to them...but if you still can't handle it and just be yourself😅 there's other options.
Have a splendid time in Malaysia. Your kids are lovely cute 🥰

That is Mee Kari the laksa version of that is called Laksa Lemak (a Peranakan cuisine). Mee Kari use chicken stock as a base but Laksa lemak use prawn/shrimp base its mostly almost all the same ingredients otherwise its just far more cheaper and easier to use chicken broth than prawn. Almost every state has its version of Laksa. All laksa has either shrimp stock or fish (mackerel) or both combined. Becareful using Indonesian language most malay malaysian people have seen some kind of Indonesian movie to know the difference. Standard Malay and Standard Indonesian can have different contextual meaning even if we use the same words. For example we never say nggak instead we use "Tak or formally tidak" . We never say "bisa" we say "boleh" . "Bisa" has only one meaning venom. Bisa could mean poison in Indonesian but in Malay its racun. They say "pokok" meaning essentially, in Malay it means a tree. We never say gampang "simply" it means bastard in Malay. We don't say kapan we say Bila. we don't say butuh "need" it means penis in Malay.

your mee curry is not spicy coz mee curry is not based on chili based but rather spices (cinamon, curry leaves, star anise that kinda stuff) ..thats why u feels a bit of tingling of spicy but at the same time arent, just a little of a chili added into it..where mee soup is basically bland soup with a based of chicken/beef/fish/vegetables most of the time..
cockles are good for body, but not too much, often eaten after those whose donating blood as it topup back the blood..what u eating right now the chinese version, there's also a malay version, hopefully u get to tried it out later.. and in some meme kinda way, there's a fight between all the laksa, like laksa kedah, asam laksa, laksa penang, laksa sarawak, laksa johor which is the best one..

That is not laksa johor. That is chinese version of curry laksa. Laksa johor used spaghetti as noodle and the sauce/broth is thick that you can eat with your hand.
Malaysia is same like USA, where we dont call our territory as province but state. There are 13 states in total plus 3 federal territory. Out of 13, 9 states have monarch means those states has king/ruler. Others has governor appointed. Those 9 monarch will rotates every 5 years to be appoint as the king of Malaysia that we call Agong. And all king still ruled their own states as the ruler as long as till death. Thats why the late king of Kedah became twice as king of malaysia, he was young when he became the sultan of kedah then got elected by malay ruler council at 1970 for 5 years then re-elected back by the council in 2011. The malaysia monarchy is the most unique in this world where 9 king elect among themselves to be appointed as country ruler every 5 years. This is because we are a federated states and each states supposed to have their own rules just like every states in US. Thats why the sultan will ruled their own states much more than just ceremonial but the king of malaysia is just a position to uphold a leader to unites the nation.
