That guy laughed when you said ngomong . Ngomong , ngoborol and ngopi is never ever used in Malaysia . It sounds hilariously funny to us, most malay people are aware of indo words from Indonesian films they might have seen, it is not taught in schools. Instead use Borak-borak or sembang which is really meant for light conversations that has no serious tone to it. Malay has less contractions of words like ngopi (ngobrol + minum kopi). Honestly we just use English instead of contraction of multiple words. Good news is malay is easier because we use the same American abecedary, really its English. We say "C" but they say "Say". B as in Bee they say "Bay". Dutch abecedary.

You'll notice the regional differences when speaking in Bahasa Indonesia and listening to Bahasa Melayu:
Malay use "boleh" for "can/would/certainly" instead of "bisa".
Instead of "bapak", it's "encik", "abang" or "pakcik" for politeness to strangers you just met if you didn't know their names.
"Bisa" in Malaysia means "venomous". Please be careful when using that.
Nasi uduk is not similar to Nasi Lemak in terms of cooking method, ingredients, the sambal paste and the side dish regardless how Indonesian says it looks similar in appearance. Eating nasi lemak without the sambal is like eating pasta without the sauce as nasi lemak is the "harmonious" dish that consist of the basic elements in nature:
    Nasi Lemak (Savory Rice)
    1. rice in coconut milk - the neutral/space element
    2. sambal (sweet and spicy) - the heat/fire element
    3. cucumber slices - the cold/ice element
    4. salty anchovies and peanuts - the water/earth element
    5. boiled egg slice - the sky/air element (gassy)
Each parts of the elements must be consumed in one spoon in tiny bits to experience the nasi lemak to the fullest.
chicken piece is not traditionally placed in nasi lemak as it is the customized menu depending on the food vendor/restaurant.

@@noruparry u r right. And traditionally nasi lemak is most authentic when wrapped with banana leaf for that special aroma.

We eat bubur when we don't feel well or breaking fast . Easy to digest.
Nasi lemak is best with rendang or squid or kerang.

2:57 nasi uduk is the same because Melaka brought nasi lemak to Batavia and then met the Javanese people and then met the Betawi people the nasi uduk can be said to have come from Malaysia.. although from Betawi the history is from Malaysia

Bubur is basically tice porridge . It would taste better if you stir and mix it up before eating as the sesame oil inside might be too strong for some .

14:44 you should add the pepper to give it extra flavour .bubur is normally bland, making it a perfect comfort food especially when you're sick
15:20 milo in Malaysia is more chocolatey compared to Indonesian Milo which is just sweet..based on my Indonesian friend review.

The safest and best bet for a good quality nasi lemak and fried chicken would be Village park restaurant. Should be about a 20min grab ride from the city center without traffic(best to travel off peak). The sambal isnt too spicy and their fried chicken is the best!

Nasi lemak sans sambal? Thats equals to pancake without syrup. Anyway, McD/Kfc nasi lemak & teh tarik taste horrible to me 😀. Get it from Oriental Kopi, Madam Kwan, Village Park or Wanjo instead.
The one with the nasi lemak is called "Indian/Japananese anchovies", dried & hard as compared to the normal anchovies.

the little Ikan billis is not anchovies.. they are actually babies fish fries.. the little fries are sundry and then deep fry until crispy.. its use for adding texture to food.. like you would add crouton to soup and chowders.. Japanese use bonito fish flakes to garnish their food.. the Malay do the same thing with ikan billis.. for good nasi lemak.. go to Wan Jo in Kampong Baru..

Ikan bilis is sundried tiny fishes. In nasi lemak, nowadays, it's commonly deep fried as side for the dish. Sometimes the ikan bilis is deep fried and then cooked with sambal. In Malaysia, we refer it as anchovies, although it's quite different from the anchovies that are processed and canned or bottled.
