16:58 in fairness Sean, they didn’t dub the Frenchmen in “Prey”, which I found effective, even though they are the cartoon goonsquad set up for the slaughter
I love how we go from "He's about to kill both these bozos" to "OMG he killed that guy" to "OMG he is going to execute this other guy." to "HOLY SHIT he murdered that man." The weight of the deaths of these two cops go from being routine action hero stuff to heavy drama within 90 seconds.
@@Souledexthis show makes death so much more human. Not just dying in explosions or space battles or light sabers It’s much more grounded. From having strokes to killing in self defense and then making terrible choices afterwards.
In the Roman empire there was a senate basically the whole time but even for the first 200 years or so the emperor was basically just informally in charge. People who took public office would reaffirm their oath to never let a king come to power whilst basically serving an emperor.
@@hellfish2309 I love The Expanse too! Always felt it was a great spiritual successor to BSG. BSG still far edges it out though as I love its characters far more and its score is just incredible.
I hope this show proves to people that not *every* piece of Star Wars media needs to cater to the youngest audience member possible. The EU/Legends had this stuff for years, more of this please.
You gotta love the amount of seriousness they put on death in this show. Star Wars is capable of telling rather mature stories about democracy, politics, conflict, etc., but sometimes it just casually brushes the topic of Death to the wayside as 'just something that happens'. I think that audiences have become a bit too desensitized to people dying in Star Wars because 'they're the bad guys' or 'they're nameless faceless people who we'll forget', but in this show, these nameless faceless people are in fact PEOPLE.
PUH-RAISE CHOBB! Oh my god, you’re gonna love this. There’s a Bith phrase (the cantina band aliens) that says Chobb. Chobb’s knob! An exclamation of surprise The Kenari language is a mixture of Portuguese, Spanish, and Magyar In episode 1 it opened with BBY 5. 5 years Before the Battle of Yavin (A New Hope) Cassian’s age is 26 years by the time of Rogue One according to its visual doctionary. But it also said his home planet was Fest, which they revealed here was false info. He appears to be older than 6 in the flashbacks, so we’re thinking they’re gonna retcon his age as also being falsified
Yay, I'm glad ya'll are reacting (and seeming to enjoy) Andor. I feel like it hasn't gotten as much hype as Obi-wan which is a shame because this show is gorge-ous.
40:49 You noted that *Tony Gilroy* said somethng to the effect of, _"I don't really give a fuck about any of this Star Wars shit."_ Well, that actually parallels what happened with _STAR TREK._ The director of _STAR TREK II,_ *Nicholas Meyer,* was exactly the same way. I was really hoping you guys would do this one! I loved Rogue One for how it gave the rebellion some teeth and for Cassian and Jyn, so I was really looking forward to this. But this exceeded my expectations. There were moments I forgot I was watching a Star Wars property. I get a lot of people have Star Wars burnout, or they're not cool with "adultness" in their Star Wars, but the writing here is the most solid I've seen in a while and I am here for it and this series really deserves all the love it can get.
According to the actress who plays andors mom the language the kids speak is a functional fictional language with Grammer but only the kids got taught it not her
Disney got the scripts for ANDOR, OBI-WAN and BOBA FETT, and after reading were like "Right, were putting most of our money on THIS one!"(ANDOR) I'm not complaining!
It’s also how they spend it: ‘Andor’ feels like they actually put some people to work, like they’re not just buying artwork and Unreal Engine 5 Volume time… you reeeeally feel it in the 4th episode
@@hellfish2309 The bigger budget means they can build more sets and go out on location. The Volume is fine and better than the green screen from the prequels but it limits the kind of shots that feel epic.
@@Mokkari77 sure, but a lot of what’s making this sing is craft: photography, writing, directing; previously DisneyLucas was throwing coin at puppets, de-aging, and the Volume, which are great I guess if that’s what you’re selling (which they have), but the product this time is the show and its storytelling, not the expensive tools
19:38 Instead of Casablanca, I was thinking more like Les Miserable. The Deputy Inspector is totally Javert, going full-on Try-Hard mode after some criminal that he really had no reason to care about.
Cassian: "Then You should look for a Less Complicated Woman" That's a Bro Your Talking about LOL When Timm "With Two MM's" goes searching his So Called GF Bix's Internet History I knew He Couldn't Be Trusted. These First Three Episodes are meant to be watch in combination as one Arch. Doesn't work as Stand Alone Episodes Individually but as a 3 Arch Episode are Terrific!

Anyone else getting Agent Cooper vibes from this dude? I mean, the actor's name is even Kyle! That being said, this show has the gravitas and ruthlessness The Book of Boba Fett SHOULD HAVE HAD. Oh, oh-- y'all want to talk about acting? Wait until Ep 4 with Stellan. That man is an acting god! NOTE: I keep coming back and editing cuz I keep having shit pop into my head.
I liked the concept of Rogue One in theory but I thought the finished product was a god damn mess and just really bad overall. Between that and Disney milking Star Wars for everything it has and releasing show after show, my expectations for this were subterranean. So imagine my surprise when I got to watch one of the greatest shows ever.
Only mild criticism so far is that it really does feel like a movie writer in Tony Gilroy writing TV for the first time in not knowing how to write that 'traditional hook' at the end of each episode.

In most star wars people’s deaths don’t matter at all. They just spent 20 seconds making them matter to the audience and to Andor.

The Kenari language not subtitled is explained, for those paying attention, later. It's a subtle indicator about how they are abandoned and forgotten.
