I feel the song is very out of place in the musical. It feels like it belongs either right at the start to stablish both Odysseus and Athena, or at some point in the first saga at least. It being in the middle of the second saga feels really weird because Athena is just telling Odysseus to not disappoint her in a very weird moment and then they just argue when he refuses to kill the Cyclops. I think if it goes to stage or movie, it may get moved around by some producer's input.

While i agree that having the song right after the horse and the infant would be very interesting, you make it seem as if warrior of the mind happens randomly when it is established fairly early on. This is SO good! A lot of artists kinda forget the shitty, menacing, undertones of this song because young Ody and Athena are so cute. Like, Athena is unironically _awful_ in this part of the musical. She is a cruel, shitty, person, obsessed with her own ego and treating mortals like pawns to aggrandize her self. But you managed to find that perfect balance of still making their first meeting absolutely adorable while also keeping the underlying threat with the blood Athena played a very direct role in putting on Ody’s hands.
@@alkalimee Oh _absolutely._ One of my favorite animatics for "We'll be fine" has a moment where Telemachus says "I don't know who you're friend is and I don't know what he's like" and she looks genuinely guilty. Because, on some level, she understands that Telemachus not knowing his father is _her_ fault. She may not have directly made Odysseus go to Troy, but well... She wanted him to be the perfect warrior, a general, a leader of men. It doesn't take the goddess of Wisdom to know it was always her plan for him to go to war. A war that took 10 years from him, his son, and his wife. Even before the Cyclops, and the Storm. So seeing her accept that guilt, accept that she was _wrong_ and that she _mistreated_ Ody... It makes her so compelling.
RIGHT!! Warrior of the mind is so so catchy but if you take a closer look at the lyrics you can really see how - for a lack of better wording - apathetic Athena is. She treats Ody as if he’s an extension or her pet project, not his own person. This is most obvious in the lines “I see you changing from how I’ve designed you” and “have you forgotten your purpose? first of all, Athena for God standards is a saint in this She protected Odysseus and in the epic canonicity she was ready to die for Odysseus She was struck numerous times by her father and still endured Did you forget that she’s the very reason Odysseus left Calypso Island? Did you forget that Odysseus got major help from Athena throughout his journey?
I love how _handsy_ your version of Athena is. I adore all versions of her where she tends to be aloof and distant, never touching anyone unless she must. But she has no problem caressing his face, like he really does belong to her and is something to mold and design. And it’s apparent when Odysseus wraps his arm around her as they walk and she removes it. It’s just absolutely fascinating how your take emphasized this dynamic for them, and he even seems angry and frustrated with what she demands of him, even as his patron goddess. Also, this adds some dimension to how she is a daughter of Zeus. If both he and Athena commanded Odysseus to kill the baby, it would not only corner his morals further, but highlight that all the gods are ruthless to the extreme. Also, because I enjoyed it so much, Odysseus mouthing along with Athena and what she says to his past self is reminiscent to his own bloodline connected to Hermes. I saw your WIP a couple weeks ago and seeing this is gorgeous. Excellent animatic!

OH I love all the thread-of-life stuff! Athena weaving it into different shapes (because she IS a weaver, among other things!!!) especially the hourglass bringing flashback!Odysseus back in time. And present!Ody reminiscing in the tree, mouthing along with Athena's words. And the detail of there _not_ being two versions of Athena, past and present, like there are with Ody-- it's _the same Athena,_ handily demonstrating her godlike omnipresence!
This is amazing! Athena treating Odysseus like a pawn, the size difference, and their difference in skill really shows the power imbalance that is at play. Good Job!
I love how playfully Athena tells older Odysseus the whole "maybe one day he'll follow me" part while they're watching younger Ody like they don't already know how this ends up. It's this moment of camaraderie and levity among the other threats, and it's so silly and cute lol, like a glimpse into their relationship in other less tense moments. Also, older Ody's expression when he tricks Athena like "how did that work actually, omg wtf?"
I absolutely love Athena using the threads, a clever nod to both her controlling and strategic nature as well as the Arachne myth with her being a master weaver
I love how you played into Odysseus being a cunning dude because he is! The sequence of Greek pillars from 2:45 and beyond was beautiful, where Odysseus moved around the falling pillars but still needed Athena's help as his mentor. You also have taken place in my favorite 3 Athena designs, well done!
I like how despite the fact that Athena is trying to prove a point it’s obvious that both her Odysseus are having fun and have a lot fondness towards this memory. From Odysseus mouthing Athena’s words, to Athena’s smirk and her wanting to say something to Ody but ultimately deciding to say nothing.
I ADORE how you bring in Athena’s aspect as the goddess of weaving and handiwork! And how even in this dreamscape she is testing Ody, having him climb and jump past obstacles. But then in the end STILL NEEDING her help. Making it out like he would be nothing without her assistance. Even though SHE’S the reason he needed help in the first place. Very manipulative. And while she wasn’t there for the killing of the baby in Troy, the set up of this scene makes me think this is actually a dream, not the actual event. Which I find interesting! I know most people go with Jorge’s canon interpretation of Athena going into Ody’s mind immediately after Polites’ song ends, but I think it’s a cool idea to think that this is happening once they’re back on the ship and Ody is having a NIGHTMARE ABOUT TROY and Athena pops in like “dude, stop making this into such a big deal. It was war. I trained you for this. Stfu and stop being a BABY.” And then peaces out. And then Ody wakes up and they’re at Polyphemus’ cave. 😃
@ I would like to claim the big brain moment but I am but a humble idiot that was on mobile so I didn’t read the description about how you started this before realizing where this song was in the musical and so you were putting it literally after the first song. You genuinely were putting it when Ody was in Troy. 😅 I was just sitting here, thinking to myself: “Oh, he’s back on the ship, catching a nap before they get to the other island. Sailing takes time. And Troy, the killing of the baby, that decision? Fucked him up. Of course he’d have nightmares about it. And there are no other live people - EVERYONE ELSE shown other than him, Athena, and the baby he’s going to end up killing is dead. There are no other soldiers or prisoners shown, no buildings shown other than the one he is in, that building is a wide open space where it is ONLY HIM AND THE BABY. Only him and the choice he has to live with. That seems unrealistic and like a nightmare scenario to me. He is dreaming and Athena comes and enters his mind to be a manipulative, perfectionist parent at the worst possible time! Yes. Obviously this is what is happening. Even though there is no true indication that this is a dream. I am so smart. 🤪 Warrior of the Mind over here.” So uhhhhh… EITHER WAY I LOVE YOUR WORK! 💀 I’m using my completely uninformed, not-correct-at-all interpretation though, because it allows the song to fit into its placement in the Troy Saga. I just imagine there’s a small, silent part after the song ends when you see Ody suddenly jerking awake as he hears someone from the crew, probably Polites for the extra angst, yell from somewhere on the ship that they’ve reached the island. And then the next song is “Polyphemus.” 🙂
I still can't get over Odysseus mouthing Athena's words. Not his own-- hers. He remembers what she says so clearly but probably not what he said back then XD This entire animation is just exquisite!! That last sequence is jaw dropping!!
I like that this feels more like she caught him in a nightmare about that night. I can see this being in the same place in epic, but rather than happening the moment polities causes this shift in his heart, it happens that night as they sail for the cave.
Honestly, I think the period of the animatic after Athena appears and before she drags him into the memory is the best part! Odysseus looking at her with mixed feelings (mostly resentment) and Athena going to wipe some blood off of his face but stopping herself in order to get down to business.
Random but i love the very genuine smile Athena gives the *construct* of Odysseus in her lil cat's cradle lifestring thing right before going back to being annoyed about having to deal with the real thing. Great characterization

Okay this one is joins the ranks of one of the best Epic animatics! I love the change of scene and having it be Athena that shows up in the infent scene, OR it can also be read as Odysseus having a dream about it given how the landscape looks. Its also wonderful to see the inclusion of Athenas other themes like weeving and arts, and the dynamic between her her and Odysseus is great! She does pull the cold,stoic teacher vibes yes, but you can also see theres quite a bond there, especially with how they act when she shows him the boar hunt. And ofcourse fantastic art style and character design on your part, wonderful stuff ❤

I like the decision to have the Athena that young Odysseus encounters be the exact same Athena that is showing him these moments. To me it is a demonstration of sheer power as Athena exists across two different points in time at once.
Not gonna lie I completely forgot the animatic you posted was a wip, this looks SO good. Also I dont mine the placement stuff too much. Its pretty cool to think of this song taking place between THatI and Just a Man, making it less of a song where Athena shoots down Polites' philosophy of greeting people with open arms, and more so one where shes telling Odysseus he needs to remember he is a soldier, a person who needs to put aside his personal feelings for the greater good.

OKAY this is probably one of my favorite animatics to this song for a couple different reasons: -I love your designs for them! -I like how you made Athena more touchy (not in a weird way) with Ody -Her playing with Ody’s life string/spirit thing was so cool! -Them watching younger Ody and older Odysseus having a bittersweet expression on his face -Older Ody miming past Athena’s words -The obstacle course thing was cool, showing their teamwork, even though Ody did most of the physical things All together, this was such a cool animatic!! -

And the detail of there _not_ being two versions of Athena, past and present, like there are with Ody-- it's _the same Athena,_ handily demonstrating her godlike omnipresence!
This is amazing! Athena treating Odysseus like a pawn, the size difference, and their difference in skill really shows the power imbalance that is at play. Good Job!
I love how playfully Athena tells older Odysseus the whole "maybe one day he'll follow me" part while they're watching younger Ody like they don't already know how this ends up. It's this moment of camaraderie and levity among the other threats, and it's so silly and cute lol, like a glimpse into their relationship in other less tense moments. Also, older Ody's expression when he tricks Athena like "how did that work actually, omg wtf?"
I absolutely love Athena using the threads, a clever nod to both her controlling and strategic nature as well as the Arachne myth with her being a master weaver

I love how you played into Odysseus being a cunning dude because he is! The sequence of Greek pillars from 2:45 and beyond was beautiful, where Odysseus moved around the falling pillars but still needed Athena's help as his mentor. You also have taken place in my favorite 3 Athena designs, well done!

I ADORE how you bring in Athena’s aspect as the goddess of weaving and handiwork! And how even in this dreamscape she is testing Ody, having him climb and jump past obstacles. But then in the end STILL NEEDING her help. Making it out like he would be nothing without her assistance. Even though SHE’S the reason he needed help in the first place. Very manipulative.
And while she wasn’t there for the killing of the baby in Troy, the set up of this scene makes me think this is actually a dream, not the actual event. Which I find interesting! I know most people go with Jorge’s canon interpretation of Athena going into Ody’s mind immediately after Polites’ song ends, but I think it’s a cool idea to think that this is happening once they’re back on the ship and Ody is having a NIGHTMARE ABOUT TROY and Athena pops in like “dude, stop making this into such a big deal. It was war. I trained you for this. Stfu and stop being a BABY.” And then peaces out. And then Ody wakes up and they’re at Polyphemus’ cave. 😃

@ I would like to claim the big brain moment but I am but a humble idiot that was on mobile so I didn’t read the description about how you started this before realizing where this song was in the musical and so you were putting it literally after the first song. You genuinely were putting it when Ody was in Troy. 😅
I was just sitting here, thinking to myself: “Oh, he’s back on the ship, catching a nap before they get to the other island. Sailing takes time. And Troy, the killing of the baby, that decision? Fucked him up. Of course he’d have nightmares about it. And there are no other live people - EVERYONE ELSE shown other than him, Athena, and the baby he’s going to end up killing is dead. There are no other soldiers or prisoners shown, no buildings shown other than the one he is in, that building is a wide open space where it is ONLY HIM AND THE BABY. Only him and the choice he has to live with. That seems unrealistic and like a nightmare scenario to me. He is dreaming and Athena comes and enters his mind to be a manipulative, perfectionist parent at the worst possible time! Yes. Obviously this is what is happening. Even though there is no true indication that this is a dream. I am so smart. 🤪 Warrior of the Mind over here.”
So uhhhhh… EITHER WAY I LOVE YOUR WORK! 💀 I’m using my completely uninformed, not-correct-at-all interpretation though, because it allows the song to fit into its placement in the Troy Saga. I just imagine there’s a small, silent part after the song ends when you see Ody suddenly jerking awake as he hears someone from the crew, probably Polites for the extra angst, yell from somewhere on the ship that they’ve reached the island. And then the next song is “Polyphemus.” 🙂
I still can't get over Odysseus mouthing Athena's words. Not his own-- hers. He remembers what she says so clearly but probably not what he said back then XD This entire animation is just exquisite!! That last sequence is jaw dropping!!
I like that this feels more like she caught him in a nightmare about that night. I can see this being in the same place in epic, but rather than happening the moment polities causes this shift in his heart, it happens that night as they sail for the cave.
Honestly, I think the period of the animatic after Athena appears and before she drags him into the memory is the best part! Odysseus looking at her with mixed feelings (mostly resentment) and Athena going to wipe some blood off of his face but stopping herself in order to get down to business.

Random but i love the very genuine smile Athena gives the *construct* of Odysseus in her lil cat's cradle lifestring thing right before going back to being annoyed about having to deal with the real thing. Great characterization
I love this version of Ody being brough back to follow the events she's singing about, and seeing him react, like lip syncing the banter he remembers lol
Slamming Ody through the floor got EVEN BETTER, I remember adoring that move in the rough animatic already!! 😚💕 All of this is so great, the strings are a GENIUS idea and Athena's badass boss name drop frame is still a favorite, goshdamnit.

Okay this one is joins the ranks of one of the best Epic animatics! I love the change of scene and having it be Athena that shows up in the infent scene, OR it can also be read as Odysseus having a dream about it given how the landscape looks. Its also wonderful to see the inclusion of Athenas other themes like weeving and arts, and the dynamic between her her and Odysseus is great! She does pull the cold,stoic teacher vibes yes, but you can also see theres quite a bond there, especially with how they act when she shows him the boar hunt.
And ofcourse fantastic art style and character design on your part, wonderful stuff ❤

I like the decision to have the Athena that young Odysseus encounters be the exact same Athena that is showing him these moments. To me it is a demonstration of sheer power as Athena exists across two different points in time at once.

Not gonna lie I completely forgot the animatic you posted was a wip, this looks SO good.
Also I dont mine the placement stuff too much. Its pretty cool to think of this song taking place between THatI and Just a Man, making it less of a song where Athena shoots down Polites' philosophy of greeting people with open arms, and more so one where shes telling Odysseus he needs to remember he is a soldier, a person who needs to put aside his personal feelings for the greater good.
This is gorgeous!! The fluid lines, the flash back, Athena's weaving to represent her calculations as the goddess of war and weaving.
Such a cool idea to let it take place before the moment with Hectors son 🤩 Not sure if Athena encourages him in the end or if she is trying to help the baby boy… And it’s absolutely stunning how you draw the fight with the boar 😁 And the little detail that old Ody sings along the part of their first meeting is just adorable 😍 A lot commentaries but this is so gorgeous ✨

OKAY this is probably one of my favorite animatics to this song for a couple different reasons:
-I love your designs for them!
-I like how you made Athena more touchy (not in a weird way) with Ody
-Her playing with Ody’s life string/spirit thing was so cool!
-Them watching younger Ody and older Odysseus having a bittersweet expression on his face
-Older Ody miming past Athena’s words
-The obstacle course thing was cool, showing their teamwork, even though Ody did most of the physical things
All together, this was such a cool animatic!!

This just popped in my youtube page and I was like, wait a minute, I recognize the artstyle, and yeah it was from that one wip I saw so long ago and I was like woah, full circle. Surprisingly enough, I think this might be one of my fave anamatics for this song. It's easy to ignore the placement as the main body of the song is done so well! I live the idea that athena was showing ody while also being in the past after the boar kill.
