- The Avro Lancaster is well known for being one of the stand-out bombers of the RAF during the Second World War. Developed from the earlier (and inferior) Manchester twin-engined light bomber, the Lancaster became a very dependable and much used bomber by the RAF.
Join me in this video as I undertake a "first" on my channel - a look inside the box at the parts, decals and instructions of a 4-engine heavy bomber! Find out what I think of this 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the Avro Lancaster Mk.1/111 from Revell!

This looks like a great kit! I really liked Revell's reboxed Hasegawa He 111, so I'll be watching all the videos in build here. Impressed so far!
my great great great grandfather was a rear gunner in a Avro Lancaster
Awesome!
I was building this kit this time last year, I think you’ll enjoy the build, great review... enjoy!!
Cool, thanks!
I just got that plane for christmas. i love the Lancaster, I also have the dambuster version from Airfix.
nice!
Your Scalemates video link brought me here just six hours after you posted the video. :) Looking forward to build video.
Nice! Glad you liked it :D
Looks good, I'm currently working on the airfix dambusters one
Nice! I hear the Airfix version is better as it's a more recent tool . .
Yeah the fit is a lot better from what I've seen
@@marsbar7099 great!
@@marsbar7099 I'm working on 2 of those at mo. Watch out with the tail sections the instructions r a bit wrong. Tells you to glue together bit from same sprue but you need 1 from each. Didn't notice with the 1st 1, good job I'm building em in tandem
I've got this kit upstairs! I'll get round to it someday...
That's how I thought about it - had it for over a year before I started on it
I'm excited to see what has been done so far
You can see progress posts on patreon, Instagram or a few pics on my community feed on here
Damn, I'd love this! Perhaps I'm gonna get this for christmas. I still have the 80th ann
Battle of britain to build before that.
email me - perhaps you will get this for Christmas :D

Thoughts on bomb loads: Normally as you'd expect a heaver load reduced the aircraft range. The smallest canister type ones with no fins usually stacked and/or dropped in bundles were incendiaries. Then came the high explosive bombs in various sizes up the the four ton oil drum shaped one with no fins, aka a cookie. Two of them could be joined together to give an eight ton monster.
Above those were the specials only carried by modified Lancasters, usually 617 squadron, and once 9 squadron joined them on the Tirpitz Raid. There were two specials; a five tonne bomb with fins called a Tallboy and the biggest a ten tonne called a Grand Slam. They were 'earthquake' bombs as you didn't need a direct hit to give the target a really bad day. In short the bomb buried itself in the ground, detonated, and the shock wave alone rendered the target unusable.
Thanks for the info!
Hi Matt! Great review of kit, just wondering if you had reached the application of decals yet? I was wondering if the walkway markings on wings were right, I built the revell JU88 A-4 recently and walkway markings and stencils were not to scale of the kit or the position they should be going by the instructions. Think it was an error in moulding also as refuelling ports on wings were too far forward on wing surfaces. But still a good kit either way.
It seemed ok on this one - but i'm not a lancaster expert so it might be a little inaccurate
Model Minutes I’m currently building p51d mustang, now the instructions are calling out to fill some details on fuselage with putty. But to do that the details have to actually be visible which they are not, just a typical revell mould error 😂
I started a 1990's release of Airfix's Dambuster kit (one of the white boxed generation) in about 2001... hopefully will resume her this year.
A great idea!
Can’t wait to see it finished
Not long now :D
I'm restoring this model after finding it
Nice!
Newmodel i got today, Heller 1/72Messerschmitt Bf109 B1, the scheme im doing for it is J88 of the Condor Legion, Spain 1938, it was used by Franquist forces in the Spanish civil war, it will be my first model of this conflict, but not the last
Sounds very interesting!
still have the Matchbox version in the idle stash
That's cool!
Great review.
Thanks!
I built this kit and the Dambusters variant. Now I'm going to build Airfix's Lancasters.
Nice!
Hoping to get the revell British legends kit for Christmas
It has a Lancaster a spitfire and a hurricane
Yeah, i've seen that one - looks pretty good :D
Doesnt the bristish legends set have old old kits
dem yeets idk the set was released in 2018 but I don’t know when the tool was from
@@iefits6965 Yeah, i think it's a mix of whatever revell has available
@@doomge2592 According to Scalemates website it contains this Lancaster kit, Spitfire kit from the '90s but i couldn't figure out the which Hurricane kit it has in it.
Hey "Model Minutes", I will be starting this on Thursday after finishing the "Graf Zeppelin" aircraft carrier today, I hope maybe you had a email so I could ask further questions. I guess if I do have questions I will just post them here and hope for a response.
my discord (link in video description) is probably the best way to communicate with me
Not related to the video, but when will the next subscriber showcase come out? I have sent in pictures of two models to be features
Not for a while I’m assuming because a showcase was released recently
I get a huge amount of submissions for subscriber showcase, so it takes me a while to go through them and edit a video. I'm averaging about 1 episode a month at the moment
Yeah, that's true
I submitted a usaf mustang
While I'm watching the video I'm doing the camo on my Lancaster Dambuster from REVELL ( that has the same sprue design).
Yes! It has the extra parts for the bouncing bomb though
@@ModelMinutes exactly, also thought it hasn't got the normal bombs, the Bombay doors.
Normaly i only build ships, but from time to time airoplanes are also nice to do.However the price for the modell is a fair trade price.20£ in the UK and 19,99 € in Germany...but..I think i will buy the Airfix version, cause they got one Pilot 😃inside the Kit(what about the other 7 🤔)
Anyway its the same scale, and but its more expiencive then the Revell, but airfix got a better Ouality i think funny, isn't it ?
However.
Nice unboxing review.
Have nice weekend✌🧙♂️✌
Thanks you too!
Nice 👍
Thanks :D
looks like they've cast this in a lighter colour plastic that when last i seen it. My old man built it and it was in a black plastic which looked like it would be abit of a pain in the arse to clean up perhaps. It's still knocking around i think but it sort of got abused and all manner of modelling sins were done to it lol Would like to give this a try myself at some point looks pretty good despite being a 15 years old tooling at this point.
Yeah, it's not bad - build is on my channel somewhere
what differance does it make using so many different glues an other cosmetic crap do to the finished item iv just starting to build models it seems a money spinner thanks.
not sure i understand your question?
I love how ya sprues are like a modern art piece behind you.
Gotta be worth at least 50grand considering a banana tape to a wall got sold for $120,000 dollars.
Haha! I could definitely go for that!
what does ya mean
Great vid
Thanks!
well, ive done this kit but im still taking the paint of like i said in some other comments but i know what ill be doing tuesday night, that tomorrow night sorted!
Nice!
I have the same kit
I really want to build but im waiting to get my airbrush so i can make it look the best i can
I'd probably practice using your airbrush on a few smaller kits before you start on this one - learning a new skill can take time
@@ModelMinutes thats why i got a 1:72 yak 3 but my delivery is delayed
Anyway looking forward to see the build finished, hope you like bulding it
Missed it nooooooooo
Always the one on thursday :D
50% of the asembely of the kit son rn hahaha wanna make it perfect
:D
Before starting always RTFM.
Haha! You're not wrong!
I can't believe someone gave it a thumbs down already. 😒
Joe Shmoe I have an idea on who
Yeah, it happens. But it counts as "engagement" and tells the YT algorithm that it's a video worth promoting
Could be anyone . . . .
@@ModelMinutes OK, that's not so bad then.
@@joeshmoe9978 nope, negative interaction is still better than no interaction
God I hate it when they give you alternate parts. It means you've paid for something you may not use.
I save them all up - they might find a use at some point
I have a 1980s version of this kit. It is not as well detailed
Yeah, i can imagine - this version dates from 2007
Revell's original Lancaster kit is rather infamous for low detail.
I have airFIX ONE 8
Matt should I by a flying foucts (b 17) or Vulcan
Nice!
It's up to you really - If it were me, i'd get a Vulcan because I already have a B17
@@ModelMinutes it because it's my birthday next week and anti was asking
As all ready have Lancaster in veday gift set
Got this at a train show for 15$
nice!
