The God Butcher arc is my favorite Thor story, but that said, linked to the story about his day of normal activities, trying almost desperately to be a god worty of its title, not only in a cosmic scale, but also in a intimate and personal level. (Sorry for the english)
This may seem mean, but I was so happy when Thor beat up Iron-Man after he found out about that clone business! Tony deserved every bit of that pummeling!
Not mean at all. Stark betrayed their friendship. He usurped his very being and then threatened the God of Thunder. I was a moment when we were reminded just how powerful Thor is
You weren't the only one man, Tony needed a proper beating back then. " learn again the difference between a God of Thunder and a mortal man in a metal suit" fucking bad ass
I think this would make an EXCELLENT Disney+ series. It even feels like a TV show when you read it. It may be short, but this is my favorite take on Thor. It’s just so incredibly DIFFERENT from anything else that’s been done with the characters.
I have the original run and the hardcover version as well. Hell, I even have a lead figure, 3 inch and 8 inch plastic version of the J Michael Straczynski Thor. I guess I really enjoyed his take on the Norse god, glad to see a lot of others feel the same way. Excellent video, by the way.
Straczynski is a really amazing writer. I read this run when it came out an was blown away by each issue, especially when Thor visits New Orleans right after Katrina hit. Maybe you could cover his Superman run in the future? It's one of my favorites.
This look of Thor in this comic is my favorite look of the character and when he beat up Tony for what he did in Civil War made him my favorite Marvel comics hero.
I like Donny Cates Thor Look because he Looked Similar to Modern Thor plus He now has the Odinforce Again though he has Limits like Fighting Elder Gods now. I wonder if Strange could train Thor on his Of use since he did see it Before on how to use it better for those Type of Fights considering the enemy is Very Powerful.
Matt Draper I love most of his run, it's a shame editorial mandates made him write books like Sin's Past and One More Day. Joe Quesada should be ashamed of himself for putting JMS's name in the last two issues of OMD.
Matt Draper I certainly understand why it’s a difficult one to cover, but I think it would be interesting. I think what might help is if rather than covering the whole run at once (which is both large and dense) you covered individual storylines or perhaps story arcs like the Ezekiel saga.
@@SpideyRules-pq6be Joe Quesada had a reign of terror at Marvel like putting Thor through Ragnarok due to "him having every possible story told" and House of M was a cluster fuck thank God X-Men vs Avengers retconned it and One More Day is an abomination
Gosh I want to read this comics this sounds lie an amazing read so sad it was cut short!!! I can see why Marvel Studios has used this run and Walt Simonson's run also
Great video as always. While Simonson’s run is still my favorite Thor run (loved it so much, I bought the omnibus of it), JMS is still a close second. What are your thoughts on Jason Aaron’s Thor run so far?
I’ve got that omnibus, too! I enjoy Aaron’s stuff. It has some ups and downs, but I like what he’s doing. Next time I do a Thor video, it’ll probably be an Aaron story.
Hey I live literally a mile and half north of Broxton! Pretty awesome that the writer made it where Thor lives in my neighborhood! Too bad the town is fictional. All it is a old school building that my grandpa, my dad and I all attended before it close down in 1995. Pretty much just grazing fields for cattle but its home! Wish I could put a sign up that says "Home of Thor" but I dont know who owns the the property that Asgard floats above. lol
Captain Malcolm Reynolds Yeah, but unfortunately that would require moving away from a lot of the elements that people loved about Ragnarok. This is a ponderous, cerebral story that just wouldn’t fit the tone Taika Watiti and the writers are going for. That being said, I think if Thor 4 were more like this it would be infinitely better than Ragnarok, but I’m one of the few who didn’t like that movie.
Sad that such an amazing run by a creator like JMS was scuttled by the publisher because of the need to do the giant multi crossover event for the year....
now i thought about the fact that Thor wasn't in the first MVC games. he only got put in in MVC 3 in 2011. in the 1990's spdier-man tv series, he didn't make an appearance. daredevil, captain America, Blade, doctor strange, *they* were guest characters. Thor wasn't. although he and his world played a pivotal part in Marvel ultimate alliance, but i didn't get that game until i was well into comics
Hello Thor comic readers, I want you all to please help me in my campaign to make the MCU fans realize their mistake and start reading Thor comics Whosoever is with me, please make me aware of And keep promoting Thor comics. Please......it's my humble request to all of you
Stracyznski's run started out very strong, but the set up took too long to resolve and get on to some actual adventuring, the run absolutely deserves the accolades it often receives but by the time he left the book I was ready for some one else to take over so something more exciting could happen. Fraction on paper looks like he'd have been a good fit for Thor, he's usually a very strong writer who can employ fantastical ideas well, but it really took Aaron to come on board to give us another great Thor run hot off the heels of making Ghost Rider great again
The JMS-written Marvel runs always start off well in the earliest issues, but rather bad story ideas &/or editorial mandates bring it down quite a bit after that. (Same with his DC comic runs come to think of it.)
Too bad none of this big god in a small town thing worked for the first Thor movie. lol Man!, that movie was boring as hell. The only time I've ever seen a movie pull off hero losing their powers and getting them back was Raimi's Spider-Man 2. But then, Peter didn't lose his powers. They more or less went dormant. That kind of story is one of the worst possible plots that could be explored in something like a film that has strict time constraints. Loved seeing Coipel's art. No wonder he's considered one of Marvel's best artists. Certainly more than those Tumblr and Twitter libtards with the refrigerator art. It sounds like J.M.S. was really on to something here, but leave it to Marvel with their over reliance on events following Civil War to screw everything up! It really sucks when an arc isn't finished, and plot threads never get resolved. At least there was no animosity between J.M.S. and Marvel. Also, excellent video Matt! Great vocal delivery. Very professional sounding.
What's your favorite Thor story? Least favorite? Let me know.
Definitely some of Aaron’s best stuff!

thanks! Great content, great videos.
Matt Draper the Kirby stuff!
I was not a Thor reader before JMS took up the reigns. His run changed all of that. This run is still one of my favorites.
This may seem mean, but I was so happy when Thor beat up Iron-Man after he found out about that clone business! Tony deserved every bit of that pummeling!
That was one of the most satisfying moments in comics when I read it after coming off of Civil War.
My absolute, favorite moment of the whole run;)
Not mean at all. Stark betrayed their friendship. He usurped his very being and then threatened the God of Thunder. I was a moment when we were reminded just how powerful Thor is
You weren't the only one man, Tony needed a proper beating back then. " learn again the difference between a God of Thunder and a mortal man in a metal suit"

After everything Tony did in Civil War, Thor was being lenient in his beatings
This was my introduction to Thor in comix an it's one of the reasons why he is my favorite superhero.
Similar for me. Not my introduction, but definitely the comic that made me love Thor.

I don't know if I am worthy of this content, but I am going to fight with honor so I can deserve more of this.
