I’m 22 and I’ve been through two ulnar osteotomies (on both wrist and 4 surgeries total including plate removal) The initial surgeries were the worst, but the plate removal and recovery was nothing compared. I wish you all the best and I hope your arm is doing better. It’s definitely not easy to go through. ❤❤❤

Oh gosh, doing this twice must be so much! I know eventually I’ll need to do my other arm, but we’ve been pushing it off for a while. How close together did you have both of yours?

I believe that they were about a year apart. Then I put off the plate removal until it started giving me serious issues.

Everyone is different with how the plates affect them though. And some surgeons take them out not matter what and some leave them if it doesn’t cause you any pain or issues.

I had a blue foam pillow like that. I called it The Lego.

You're so young to have to be going through all this.. I'm older, Gastroparesis, pots And many more issues that I have.. But i'm a lot older than you.. I certainly hope that as you age, you get better. And stronger.. You certainly have a really good vibe and attitude.. One day at a time.❤❤❤❤

Awww thank you!! I try to stay as upbeat as I can! Gastroparesis and POTs really do suck and I hate that any of us have to deal with it. While getting sick young hasn’t been ideal, I’m luckily that at least my body is young and I feel like that’s made dealing with illnesses a little bit easier!

Hi I am in need of this surgery and I am wondering if after three weeks if I would be alright to return to my (college) school work! i see you can move fingers and such and need advice! just like typing and using a mouse. I’d like to do it over my thanksgiving/christmas break but unsure

Hi Anna! I think three weeks should be okay! I obviously can’t guarantee anything or make any promises, and I’m not your surgeon or doctor. But for me personally, I was out of a cast and into a splint in I think a little over two weeks. Once I was in the splint, it was much easier to do things. I could still type with one hand and use my mouse with my non dominated hand. I would suggest practicing or trying to type and work from your computer with hand to see how it goes now! But after two weeks, I was comfortable typing with both hands! Just make sure your professors know so you don’t have to hand write very much, that was what was hardest for me!
I would also warn you to make sure you have winter shirts with wide enough sleeves to fit a cast through! Since my surgery was in the summer, I could wear loose tank tops and it wasn’t a big issue, but I know long sleeves are harder to wear with casts.
I hope it all goes well though!! Let me know if you have any other questions!!!!!
