I've noticed that on wyrdeer if you jump dismount and remount on the peak of the jump than you can go up slightly further and it seems sometimes you can refresh a jump
For y'all in the comments, just letting you know: To get Darkrai's mission, you have to have a save file of Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl on your Switch. For Shaymin, you have to have a save file of Sword/Shield. And when it comes to Basculin evolving into Basculegion, you have to take about 300 recoil damage WITHOUT FAINTING. That might be why it took a while for John to evolve his Basculin.
You say that the game doesn't tell you that alpha pokemon can be caught, but nearly all pokemon have an "alpha pomemon caught" line in their pokedex entry. Well done though, very interesting video once again!
I managed to catch Alpha Parasect really early on (my team were like level 15-ish) and since then I've just been catching them all. My team hit their 40s and I went and 1 balled the level 69 Empoleon with 1 heavy ball that wasn't even a back strike. Same with rapidash when my team were low 20s. Infernape only took me 3 or 4 Feather balls and Alakazam took me 1. Not the improved ones, just regular. Just sat outside their aggro range pitching them.
In crimson Mireland there's a really stupid trick you can do with only wyrdeer to get across to the Holm of trials so you can catch a petilil for liligant.
I had to build a team of just ghost and dragon counters. Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai, Typhlosion, Staraptor, and Zoroark. Staraptor was just there for coverage against the Zolo battle. And even with this I had to use revives and potions. I refuse to overlevel…
One mechanic that most people missed during their playthrough which makes catching agressive Pokémon a lot easier: Throw some Spoiled Apricorns, Balls of Mud or Snowballs at them until they get exhausted (the stat drop animation will play). Tgey will now be catchable witgout a battle for a short time and you can run to its back and get a simple Back Strike catch without having to battle or run away. If you use Sticky Globs, less of them are required to achieve the effect and this metgodcan also be used on Alpha Pokémon as well.
@@judgementbird2248 No Yamask is still harder cause that thing needs a very specific amount of HP lost and needs to go to some random rock to evolve lol.
Incorrect, I evolved it while it fainted. My basculin had 167 HP. I basically had it faint twice back to back and evolved it. You need 300 recoil damage using wave crash.
I've heard conflicting things Bulbapedia says that it's 297HP of damage, doesn't matter if you faint at some point but damage that causes you to faint won't count I've also heard that it might just be using Wave Crash (which does cause recoil damage) a certain number of times, perhaps using a certain style
34:39 'after you catch Arceus' is wrong. You can do the Shaymin, Darkrai, Manaphy and Phione stuff at least already after defeating Volo/Giratina, maybe even before that.
This is one of my favourite Pokémon games to come out in the last decade or so. I really hope they stick with this formula and give us new legends to explore!
Yeah for how much this game sucks a sequel is very much needed. So it can fix all the issues. Then truly it will be a master piece. Let's not deny this game is only a beta version an not a finished product. The battle system is janky and broken. An the graphics are at best alpha quality from a 2008 game. This is a rushed mess. Copium blinds many.
This game, while difficult, is the most fun i’ve ever had with a pokémon game. My first was Emerald which is well over a decade ago. I loved everything about it and just had so much fun with it. I still haven’t completed the game but I am just taking my time and enjoying the process! Great video!
I got there, too and yes, it's one hell of a fight. I was like 12 or 13 years old but luckily had friends at school who I sat down with during lunch break or even after school ended for a while just to get through the temples until we got to Arceus. Plus, we also managed to get the Mew (who is an annoyingly rare reward-only Pokémon). Oh, and we did the DLC missions. So yeah, probably the only Pokémon Game - together with Alpha Sapphire - that I truly managed to 100%.
Btw through the legend Plate you can make Arceus change type mid battle to get a better type match up position which is the best yet most BS thing ever
@@ashmander3465 i dont think it would be all THAT broken, sure its attack stat is MONSTROUS but: he is only normal type, so he would not be getting STAB for a lot of the better moves. Normal doesnt do any extra damage to any other types so even moves he DOES get STAB on are never going to be THAT OP. Lastly send in a Ghost type with coverage or a powerful Fighting Type to bring him down. i will fess up, i was hoping that due to being in the past, we would have just one game where we can have him WRECK for once.
The spiritomb map is helping a lot, one thing is that one of them is missing in coronet highlands. The one missed is one of the four mounds between celestica trail, primeval grotto, sacred plaza, stonetooth rows, and bolderoll ravine.

personally I'd say that all 3 have their merits, if we're going off their normal forms I'd say that Decidueye is best. Hisuian Typhlosion is definitely my favourite though, easily beats the Hisuian forms of the other two (I feel like Hisuian Samurot looks more like a cool shiny than a regional variant) and I'd place it above normal Decidueye too.
@@Eclipsed_Embers oh yeah totally, not saying the other two aren't good or some such, I just love Cyndaquil. I do like Hisuian Decidueye though, it's a really cool design.
I didn’t much care for spoilers back when BDSP came out. This time around, I will be watching this video later. I eagerly await! Edit: I beat Volo. I’m not waiting until I catch Arceus because that will take forever.
Okay. I’ve just picked up Arceus as like a side game, I already caught 204 Pokémon even before collecting dialga and palkia and giratina. Now I know the sides quests and what nots. Scizor I defeated by accident as I know all of the weakness to opposing Pokémon. I got to a 6 star rank and eventually caught all the alphas, and space then distortion Pokémon. I found if I was a high enough rank, I could catch anything. With all in all I’m now sitting at just under 59 hours at 58:57 because I did all the battles, evolved my Pokémon and wanted to complete 10/10 research for everything I caught. Included in giving them food, using countermoves and catching as many off guard. It’s really been super immersive like I’m actually being a Pokémon trainer and filling out the Pokédex. Thank you for the video
Wow I've been playing almost non stop and haven't finished up the dex (thank you, wisps and space time distortions, looking at you shieldon, cranidos) so I'm super shocked to see you already uploaded this video! I agree that it is so fun, and those boss battles were super hard. It was refreshing to see we were surprised at the same plot twists with Beni & Giratina haha
Basculan evolves when it takes 300 recoil damage but it can’t faint or it will have to have 300 damage be taken again it’s pretty easy when you know not to faint it
The Manaphy quest where you need those pokemon is based off of a story in D/P/Pt/BD/SP in the Canalave Library. That's the reason why those specific pokemon are needed.
In the exact same spot that you caught your Psyduck I found a shiny one when not even looking for it. I nearly failed it because I didn't know that you can save when you see a shiny and reset to catch it if it flees.
You mentioned that the wisps are really easy to spot from a distance at night. That made me realize an aspect of this game I want to praise: the distance rendering. Not even botw has distance rendering this good. And all while botw is a much more powerful game. I guess LA’s distance rendering is this good because it doesn’t have to render so much up close at once, but it still amazes me whenever I see a wisp on a mountain far in the distance.
I feel your pain with the Volo/Giratina fight. Took me several tries to line it up properly, and even then I thought I messed up by not catching him (you can't then, it doesn't let you, but I hadn't noticed that... so I reset the first time I defeated him.)
I can't tell you how glad I am that you also struggled with Giratina lol, and catching Shaymin. I wasted 40 pokeballs without realizing I HAD to battle it
That final Volo battle surprised me with how hard it was, although I chalk most of it up to BS like Giratina getting free hits on you at the start of the fights.
took me two weeks to finally be able to watch this spoiler free (wanted to finish my play through first) and oh man the relief I'm feeling finally getting to enjoy this
A new challenge. Before leaving each area, do as much as you can doing every research task and perfecting the Pokedex. It's gonna be tedious, but interesting to see what strategies you come up with.
I’m so glad the Volo fight was a beast for you too! Now I don’t feel so bad. But the trick is Alpha Blissey to tank hits while you max revive your hard hitters. Lol
Based statement about the starter, completely true. My Typhlosion carried me once I got it and it consistently was the star of my team no matter who I had.
I love how during the entire Cobalt Coastlands section John completely refuses to give any mention to Palina, even calling the Growlithe Iscan's pokemon
I tried finding all the wisps myself, but I ended up looking up the locations for the last dozen or so & tbh I never would have found some of them. We joke a lot but John is legit so good at Pokémon to have finished this WITH TIME TO VOICE OVER & EDIT within 2 days of this game dropping

The final battle took me well over 20 attempts because I was stubborn on the fact that I wasn’t going to use items or train my team any more, eventually I had to resort to revive spams until garatina lost his shadow claw strike thing because I couldn’t bear the fact that I missed so many moves in a row on that thing
I had to grind a few levels and change up my Team. I also abused his AI because he sends out Party members that are super effective against your mon. I manipulated him to send out his Team in a specific order so that I could heal my entire team at the end of the battle before the giratina battle started.

I’m glad you also struggled with the final battle. While you used a team of level 70 legendaries, I had a team of mid level 60 pokemon and giratina had a super effective move for each one of my mons. The game is great but the battle mechanics are awful. If you have a glass cannon, you will always only get 1 kill then just die the next turn without any chance to switch out or anything.

@@Junistheog borrow a friends game or try to rent it
You say that the game doesn't tell you that alpha pokemon can be caught, but nearly all pokemon have an "alpha pomemon caught" line in their pokedex entry. Well done though, very interesting video once again!
Not to mention. There's legit a mission for it
I managed to catch Alpha Parasect really early on (my team were like level 15-ish) and since then I've just been catching them all.
I caught a level 85 alpha garchomp when my team was getting swept by it and I thought I may as well try a ultra ball
Didn't know it was a detail in the dex for it, I just yolo'd everything lol.
Poke balls are so common that I decided to try catching the alpha cricketune and well was happy to see it work
I thought Cyndaquil was the best choice, until 1 hour in I caught a Monferno and obtained a shiny Ponyta. I currently have 0 grass types 😭
Do an all Fire run to challenge yourself.
In crimson Mireland there's a really stupid trick you can do with only wyrdeer to get across to the Holm of trials so you can catch a petilil for liligant.
And everyone keep attacking with ground moves so not the best choice I've made 😅
I chose Oshawott and had the problem of having no fire types in my team. I even resorted to just putting the fire type move on Sylveon
When I did that giratina battle it made me so mad, sort of made me happy that I wasn't the only one to struggle with it lol
I refused to use legendaries and my highest level pokemon was 63, took quite a few tries
I was way underleveled and felt betrayed having to do three fights in a row without being able to heal. Took me a while to actually kill giratina
The giratina fight was really awful and I loved it
I had to build a team of just ghost and dragon counters. Dialga, Palkia, Darkrai, Typhlosion, Staraptor, and Zoroark. Staraptor was just there for coverage against the Zolo battle.
And even with this I had to use revives and potions. I refuse to overlevel…
Umbreon carried me thru that fight; lv 77 with rock smash, calm mind, mimic, snarl. Out of the 8 pokemon in that fight; it took down 6 on its own.
I'd love to see John doing a catch em all challenge in the gamecube games.

Tip: for basculegion it needs to take 300 damage WITHOUT fainting once, that is why it took you so long!
And I thought evolving Galarian Yamask was a pain.
@@judgementbird2248 No Yamask is still harder cause that thing needs a very specific amount of HP lost and needs to go to some random rock to evolve lol.
You were almost correct, to evolve into basculegion you need to use the wave crash move and taking 300 damage in recoil.
Incorrect, I evolved it while it fainted. My basculin had 167 HP. I basically had it faint twice back to back and evolved it. You need 300 recoil damage using wave crash.
I've heard conflicting things
Bulbapedia says that it's 297HP of damage, doesn't matter if you faint at some point but damage that causes you to faint won't count
I've also heard that it might just be using Wave Crash (which does cause recoil damage) a certain number of times, perhaps using a certain style

Some seem to forget the Arceus boss fight in Rangers Guardian Signs; that was a whole nother bullet hell.

John Cena is Arceus's trainer
What did he do?
Basculan evolves when it takes 300 recoil damage but it can’t faint or it will have to have 300 damage be taken again it’s pretty easy when you know not to faint it
THE SECOND A IN BASCULIN IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN I!
I was able to get arceus in 26 hours but that was with a guide for the wisps so your blind play through times is really good
A guide for the wisps?
The Manaphy quest where you need those pokemon is based off of a story in D/P/Pt/BD/SP in the Canalave Library. That's the reason why those specific pokemon are needed.
In the exact same spot that you caught your Psyduck I found a shiny one when not even looking for it. I nearly failed it because I didn't know that you can save when you see a shiny and reset to catch it if it flees.
It's funny, the lake Alphas were the ones that I figured you couldn't catch.
So, yeah, I do not have an Alpha Zoroark, which is unfortunate.
"So I chose the best and correct choice for the game, Cyndaquil. I WILL die on this hill."
This is the correct attitude to have.
I feel your pain with the Volo/Giratina fight. Took me several tries to line it up properly, and even then I thought I messed up by not catching him (you can't then, it doesn't let you, but I hadn't noticed that... so I reset the first time I defeated him.)
That Cyndaquil comment at the beginning of the vid, earned you a new sub. Very good man 😎
I'll say this now, John, even with my level 75 - 80 team, i still had trouble with the Giratina segment...
A Pokémon game has never had this much content in it before, I LOVE IT
DUDE! I haven't even beaten the game yet! How are you this fast?!
He got an early copy lmao
I can't tell you how glad I am that you also struggled with Giratina lol, and catching Shaymin. I wasted 40 pokeballs without realizing I HAD to battle it
That final Volo battle surprised me with how hard it was, although I chalk most of it up to BS like Giratina getting free hits on you at the start of the fights.
It’s not “free hits” he’s just faster than whichever Pokémon you led with
took me two weeks to finally be able to watch this spoiler free (wanted to finish my play through first) and oh man the relief I'm feeling finally getting to enjoy this
A new challenge.
Lol
My strategy exactly.
Based statement about the starter, completely true. My Typhlosion carried me once I got it and it consistently was the star of my team no matter who I had.
Such a good video yet again! Amazing how fast you can put out such a high quality video
I love how during the entire Cobalt Coastlands section John completely refuses to give any mention to Palina, even calling the Growlithe Iscan's pokemon

Great vid! I think your time is pretty damn fast I just beat the story with about 150 in the Dex and I'm at 33 hours... So it'll be awhile for me to complete
29:40 as someone who had level 80s and 90s during this fight, it was still a bit of a struggle.
I love how you're cruising through the game but I've spent like 15-20 hours in the first area and have 4 stars before the second area
Same I got 5 stars before the second area must of handed in like 120 data got like 3k rank points and 45,000 money from the first area now I’m half way to 7 stars and not even finished in the second area 😂

Dude I just walked in and saw your Pokemon Gold Pokedex Challenge playing on tv. Had to subscribe after that
The final battle took me well over 20 attempts because I was stubborn on the fact that I wasn’t going to use items or train my team any more, eventually I had to resort to revive spams until garatina lost his shadow claw strike thing because I couldn’t bear the fact that I missed so many moves in a row on that thing
I had to grind a few levels and change up my Team.
I also abused his AI because he sends out Party members that are super effective against your mon. I manipulated him to send out his Team in a specific order so that I could heal my entire team at the end of the battle before the giratina battle started.

That last main story battle caught me off guard too. Glad I hadn't used any experience, candy, rare candy or the grit stuff up to that point, definitely saved me some time.
Cyndaquil definitely the correct and only choice. Always been 1 of my favourite starters.
the real perfect pokerap is John blandly reading out the names of the long, long lists of pokemon he's caught at various points throughout the game
The battle system is BROKEN. Don't deny that fact.
