- Just in time for Spring! In this video demo I show you how to use the power of mark making with pastel to paint a bird's nest. A nest is the perfect subject to practice and utilize a variety of marks.

I’m always amazed by what appears to be a mishmash of color suddenly becomes so clear. Great demo of the different types of marks. It makes more sense to me now.

Love the little nest! But... when looking at the referens photo and the perspective of the painting I don’t think the sky should be there.. sins you are looking almost straight down. Now in my brain, it looks like the sky is under the nest were the ground should be, tipping the nest over! Otherwise it’s great, and so much useful info! Thanks for sharing!!! ☺️ I love all your videos!

in general many are the same
There will be one newly created color ( a beautiful periwinkle blue) but the others are curated from the existing pastels.It is a good comprehensive set though!@@lyneqc7805

You put so many layers round the nest itself but they did not go muddy. How did you do it? Did you use fixative?
Thanks for watching. I often use fixative to build layers but I didn't in this painting. The trick is to use a light touch until the end then press much harder for the final marks!
