Very informative, Mazzy. Rhino is doing very nice work, and yes, I'm with you, always loved John Simon. His first two albums blew me away, and still do!
one day I hope you guys will Release Emmylous Concert in London at Victoria Theatre in 1975, her first concert abroad that was fully recorded both on video and audio. Her first big tour. That would be a massive Live Box of the Originally Hot Band. They were on fire and Emmylou was also wearing her famous dress she wore on the album cover for Elite Hotel. Its way overdue as fans has been waiting for years.
Sound like a great request! Saw Emmylou and the Hot Band at the Brighton Dome 12th Feb 76 - Stunning concert! And if the vinyl gods are listening how about Nanci Griffith at Victoria Palace May '88 - there's something about early gigs in London..
I sure hope Emmylou Harris and The Angel Band will get released. Her first Electric Band 1973-1975, the band she put togheter after Gram had passed away. They recorded alot of material for her first WB album, demos as well as gigs. Its about time we get Emmylous music avaiable.😊
Awesome! I'm not a diehard fan of either artist or do not listen to them often. However, I have several CDs of both and keep coming back to them when I want to listen to something different from my usual go to albums. I already have the CDs for both these titles and had just ordered the vinyl versions from Rhino as I'm watching this vlog. I look forward to listening to them! I hope Rhino has access to The Blasters, Los Lobos and X catalog and ask Kevin Gray to master them.
As a vinyl buyer for a major wholesaler, numbered or unnumbered doesn’t seem to matter when selling to indie stores. Some of our internet sellers were mad for the numbered….the main thing is the music. Have you made the best sounding vinyl that you can? Is it reasonably priced? And for the love of god if Kevin or Bernie or someone else of note has cut it- call that out!
Great job Mazzy, glad you’re finding new outlets for your vast musical knowledge, the Rhino team keeps bucking the customer expectations, if I recall correctly, a year ago , most of us were requesting remaster/reissues to move away from the repetitive known top sellers (Hotel California) as they were deemed “cash grabs” …Rhino is bending and adjusting and overall providing great products at reasonable prices …congratulations gentlemen…naysayers do not outnumber the many of us who appreciate your hard work!
Emmylou's Warner/Reprise records from the mid-late 70's should be up there whenever anyone mentions all those great hot-streak album-sequence artists. Definitely on my ''desert island'' with Wrecking Ball.
I'm watching this in the last hour of September 18th, 2024. Tomorrow will be the sad anniversary of the last day of Gram Parsons' life, fifty-one years ago.
Grievous Angel is great, but GP is my favorite and seems to be overlooked these days. VMP did a reissue of the former already. Is GP really that much less well-known?
Ingram Cecil Connor III, known professionally as Gram Parsons. After his father died his mother, subsequently married Robert Parsons, who adopted Gram and his sister; they took his surname.
Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris moves me on a deep, emotional level every time I hear it. A genuinely beautiful album of which I'm so glad it's being rereleased.
Also love the Little Feat reissues - just a bit dissapointed that recent FDFMN double vinyl didn't have the Paris live recording, and even worse was Live at the Rainbow was US a US only CD - not available in the country it was recorded! And now same issue is happening with Talking Heads :77 . 🤞for the live albums to being upcoming RSD releases
Just seen that the Talking Heads ;77 live album will be available on vinyl in a rather expensive (out) box set but not listed on the Europe Dig! (Rhino) site.
‘She’ is not a Burrito Brothers song, it is a song which first appeared on GP, in my opinion the best record Gram Parsons ever released. I bought Sweetheart, Guilded Palace, Grievous Angel and Emmylou’s first four or five records back in the day, but it is GP I return to more than any Parsons or Harris solo recording. The band of musicians used on all their records is uniformly excellent, but over time I’ve noticed a syrupy emotion to Emmylou’s overall presentation, as if she hasn’t truly lived the life she sings of. Just my opinion, obviously. She has a huge following, but I personally almost never feel compelled to listen to one of her records.
@@mazzysmusic Mazzy: Interestingly, there was a 45 release (back in 1974, I believe) of a cover version of 'She' by Bobby King and Terry Evans, on Warner/Reprise, so they were record-mates with Gram Parsons. I assume this is how the song came to their attention. I've always thought the song had a strong gospel feel to it, even though the lyrics are quite secular. If you haven't heard the King/Evans version, check it out on youtube. Although the song did not chart, it is a fine rendition. I know you are a fan of Bobby and Terry, through listening to Ry Cooder, of course. Although Terry has passed away, my brother (who lives there) informs me that Bobby is now retired and has moved back to our hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He says that he and Bobby are members of the same health club (he often encounters Bobby there). He says that Bobby, at 80 plus years, continues to lift weights and appears in great shape. Although retired from popular music, he sings with his local church's gospel choir. My brother is a musician - he and Bobby sometimes visit with Brian Leger, former pianist with local legends The Boogie Kings, to chew the fat.

I think Elite is almost as good as if not the equal to Luxury Liner. Some of the players found on Liner such as Hank DeVito on pedal steel had already appeared on Elite.

I'd say it's both. If the record company is fulfilling the demand with supply and more people get to buy the record, why is that a bad thing? Sounds like a win-win to me.
Maybe you don’t understand, but every new album mastered is being done by someone who never head the recording prior to working on it.
