I tracked this at Martyrs' and then mixed the audio for this song and other Martyrs' footage with Blaise Barton at his studio in Chicago. It's always bittersweet seeing film from The Bears: Out of Hibernation partly because the film was never released, but mostly because Ken Latchney, who was Adrian's main studio engineer at the time, really liked the way it sounded and said that he wouldn't change anything with the mix. I only got to work with Ken on few live shows. He was a nice guy and a great engineer who unfortunately passed way too young in 2006.
This was extracted from my film THE BEARS: OUT OF HIBERNATION! The reason why it's so good is that it was made by professional filmmakers who were also fans of The Bears, and therefore had a better feel for editing the music.
The bears were in Springfield, Il. in 87, they were incredible, and they did some king crimson. It sounded more like crimson than the real crimson with belew, that i saw twice.
Thanks 1952czar for sharing your Bears experiences. I consider myself QUITE lucky to live in the same realm as the mighty psychodots (Bears minus Belew), who still do a few shows a year. Very much looking forward to the Dayton show in May!
WOW What an incredible version of one of my favorite Bears songs. The audio and video here are just fantastic, multiple camera angles?? What is this!!!
@lumpytwangage " I can't detail....." Fair enough, the Superboy, and Figure it Out vids are fantastic. I do have the Club Cafe DVD. I've been a Bears fan since the 80's when I saw them tour the first album, at the Bottom Line here in NY. I don't think I've ever missed a Bears stop in NY. I last saw them on the 2002 tour at the Mercury Lounge NYC. The Bears, always great music and great fun. However sporadic I hope they keep returning. They are a great band.
If you're wondering why this version sounds so good, it's in part because of the fine live production here, but really it's mostly because the original production on the album sucked. Thank goodness this brilliant performance is on TH-cam, because it's the version we all should have heard years ago. The original mix was washed over by heavily gated reverbs over the snare and vocals, and this made the bass nonexistent and the overall mix tepid. Here, the snare and vocals are free of that, making them so much tighter and providing more space for the beautiful chord changes, harmonies, low end, and driving energy, which should have made this song a hit back in the day... gated reverbs were the brick wall limiting of the 80s...

Send me a snippet someday?
@@johnjk123456 I didn't retain a copy of the audio. I gave it to the makers of the film.
Best band EVER! Criminal that they never got the attention they deserved.

An absolute masterpiece.
Thank You for this. What a great foot tappin' tune.
I just listened to this song three times straight, and I want to hear it again.
I don't just "like" this, I LOVE this!
Saw them in Portland, OR late 80's. Have most of the records.

belew just blew the walls out of the limits of music at that time.
It was so rare that someone had the impact that he did.
this sounds good
This kills. Haveball their stuff. 4'disc live raisins and the grave blankets CDs highly recommended.
I watched these guys rock NYC's Bottom Line until the walls nearly shattered.

Sorry that I can't detail this for you, but I would suggest picking up the "Live At The Club Cafe" DVD, which is from this same tour.
You can get to the psychodots video group from my channel page. Good schtuff to be found there.
I have a record called Valentine...sounds alot like this one. Good song tho' - either way.
