Im pretty shocked this review is getting the views it is, but since my audience has a pretty big younger age demographic, I figured thursday Throwback wouldbe a good way to introduce the stuff that got us hooked. And the best pa!!!rt about it its gien me a renewed appretion of these guys. I forgot about the sexy ladder till i broke it out again
I remember having this entire set and loved it, they were the first complete combiner set I ever had until years later. I wish I hadn't given them away back in the 90s. Would be nice to see them return with a Generations remake and be able to combine as long as it's made well.
The older stuff is kinda neat for a restrospective. Can't really remember a ton about the true G1 stuff (plus all of my older toys have been lost over the years) so it's like seeing these things for the first time.
I've watched a lot of transformers toy reviews, mostly g1 stuff, but this is the first one that i actually felt nostalgic. I don't know why, but watching you transform and talk about them made me remember watching the cartoons and wishing I had these :) Keep up the great work!
Nice set, mine is showing it's age but still holds together, can't beat G1. He's probably the best proportioned G1 combiner. Great review, keep 'em coming.
They held a place in my heart because of the comics. In UK, they were special teams, and in US, they were assigned to arrest Goldbug and Blaster by Grimlock
man i wish i was born in the G1 ERA, but sadly i wasn't,BUT if i was i would spent most of my time collecting the G1 figures, and i will getting encores and originals when i get a job, and since you uploaded this guy he will be the first one to find :D
They were a great set. Unfortunately I wish they had them featured more in the cartoon and the comic book. Even had a introduction episode for them. Than just have them pop up out of nowhere in the revenge of Bruticus.
Definitely have to agree with the awesomeness of Hot Spot, not just for the telescoping ladder, but also for the fact that Defensor's head is built-in and not another separate piece that can easily be lost.
The Protectobots really don't get enough love, they are great combiners and the toys of them are just as good. Nice to see you kept yours in such great condition, Great review mate.
I had Hotspot, Streetwise and Blades when I was a kid. Hotspot was really good, I used to love his stickers and stripes and stuff too. I used to have to make up mish ash combiners though cos I never had a complete team! I used to use technobot Nosecone and slingshot to make comp/defender-rion or something. lol
I only had 3 members of Defensor....Hotspot, first aid and the cop car. Also only had 3 of Menasor (dead end, break down, Motormaster)...and 3 of Superion (no Silverbolt)....and none of Bruticus. Had to mix them up to combine. Ah, nostalgia. Cool reviews, buddy. I'm 36 now, and still love this stuff. G1 rules.
My favourite autobot combiner group had them all loved groove for some reason and yep I just got mp grapple and have to be very careful with those tight joints
You can 'fold out' the legs of First Aid in his arm mode, since the other side also has a place fit the fist ( I know, it sounds wrong). This way you can make his First Aid arm longer
I had the entire team when I was young, the only complete combiner team I ever had. They were great. Looking forward to having the Combiner Wars set soon, hopefully.
I was lucky to be able to get them all bit by bit, sadly I gave them away in 1995 because I thought I no longer needed them. Fairly miss them. So I'm looking forward to the Combiner Wars remakes, hope they'll be joining the collection soon.
The limbs I got gradually over the years and my brother gave me Hot Spot for Christmas in 1992 or so. They were a great team, limited in many ways yet a lot of fun.
thank's for replying, like i say it's the first time i'd seen a metal chest one, i know on some of the other combiner's they had two different chest's either die-cast or plastic but i never knew it applyed to hotspot? very cool!
One of the protectobots I had was Hotspot. I even brought it to the school. I said to my classmates who never known him that he was Optimus Prime xD, that made them so jealous. My friends were the only ones in my class to know that it was Hotspot lol
Great review. I have Hot Spot and he looked awesome up to a few years ago when i got him out of storage. The cab part has started to discolour into green(?).
Great review. I bought a KO, very cheaply made defensor for like $8. It came with a red Hot Spot. A bit of baby blue paint and stick him behind some other TFs, and you can't tell the difference from across the room. Just don't try to pick it up :)
When I was a kid in the mid to late 80s I had the blue firetruck, couldn't remember his name till I I seen this. The only full combiner I had was bruticus.
First Aid can be a longer arm. Everyone does it like you have, with the stubby ambulance arm, but if you flip his legs down, there are holes for the hand just like before, and you can give him a longer arm.
I just picked up a G1 Defensor recently. I just love those G1 combiners! So far, I've got Defensor, Computron, Abominus, Bruticus and Devastator. So, if memory serves me correctly, I need Superion from the Autobot side and Pirahnacon and Predaking from the Decepticon side. I know somebody who has a Takara Tomy Predaking for sale, and they want about $250 for it. I don't know if that's reasonable by collectors' standards. As for the combiners I don't have, I see the individual robots here and there, but not enough for a complete set. Like this one place I visited called Level Up Entertainment in my local mall, and they have 4 of the 5 Seacons, 2 of the 5 Aerialbots, and only Razorclaw from the Predacons. Damn, so close! LOL! Anyway, it gives me something to aspire to, and I plan on growing my G1 collection by leaps and bounds!
I used to have that team as a child. Of course, being a child Defensor ended up in the trash. Now I got it back and I had to pay almost 200$CAN to get it back. No regrets because he's fucking awesome.
Seems like, if I can remember correctly, Firstaid had a port for the hand on the bottom of his feet so while in arm configuration his legs were folded down, making him the same length as the other arm.
As a kid, the only full set I had was the Combaticons set. (Bruticus is one of my favorites.) But I noticed that the Combaticons, the Protectobots, and the Stunticons toys had the same sort of pattern of transforming into their big-ass mode. I did have 4-of-the-5 protectobots. I never did get the firetruck guy, but I look back thinking, "Why did I buy the freakin' Protectobots?"
One thing that makes Hot Spot superior to all other Scramble City team leaders is that you cannot lose Defensor's head, and we know how kids and even adults will lose those accessories.
I love tranformers G1 defensor so much it's my favorite combiner tranformers my favorite is blades from the protectobots crazy you might think but I love it I am still trying to get the G1 version of him but soon I will get him one day
I have had all of them except for Groove for years so I've never been able to make them into Defensor. And Hot Shot is my favorite because I've never seen a blue fire engine.
Hey Mitch, wanted to let you know that Hot Spot's base mode is supposed to be a repair bay, and it looks much better with the tentacles he originally came with. Not great, mind you, but better.
damn dude nice review of this vintage combiner,, i to have hime both loose and misb ,,i use mt streetwise as an arm and first aid as a foot lol ,,very nice review buuudddy
You are right man the vintage toys were made to last and on the transformers they did put cool details on to them and nice plastic the new lines are getting very cheap and juts put a loot of hallow parts in to the figure to save money so it sucks, this guys look amazing man each has his own transformation and also form a bad ass giant. Hot spot looks awesome very cool color to him looks like a guy from transformers cybertron Mudflap. great thumps up
When I was little, I used to binge these videos all the time. These guys were my favorite autobots
I remember watching this before I was in school. It’s been such a long time, thanks for the memories
One of my favorites! Protectobots! Awesome indeed! The good 'ol days when steel was added commonplace on a G1, and the plastic wasn't chewy!
yessir. They called them Scramble City because you could switch them up! thanks for watching!
Me too, only my Computron isnt a reissue and is really beat up. I was going to do him... Thanks bud!
Beast Wars will be some of the reviews I'll be doing on Thursdays! Thanks for watching
Now thats totally old school!!! like 1800's old school!!! lol
I remember having this entire set and loved it, they were the first complete combiner set I ever had until years later. I wish I hadn't given them away back in the 90s.
Would be nice to see them return with a Generations remake and be able to combine as long as it's made well.
Coming back to this, does anyone have any nostalgia reducing pills. Because I'm about to overdose on nostalgia!
Yes, used to watch these as a kid
Thanks bud. Glad you enjoyed!
G1 autobots are always wickedly awesome and amazing combinations
old timey music is a hit!!! lol. Yeah, well, it didnt quite get uploaded till really late Thursday, but I made it...lol
My 6 yr old son loves all ur posts! He demanded I comment that Defensor is his favorite! Great work.
Burton Lee sorry I’m a Decepticon fan I like Bruticus tell him that
Soviet Gaming/DecepticonBlackout hell yeah Bruticus the best combiner ever
Burton Lee XXXXXXdddsss
thanks bud, I just switched First Aid to a foot and think that looks a lot better than streetwise. Streetwise is a nicer arm. Thanks man
talk about a throwback, nice choice. This one is definitely a great transformer. Love the intro music man, lol.
ooh. Yeah, I'm on the hunt for some G1 goodies too at TFCon
wow a bright green would be sweeeeet!!!
I'll have to give that a looksee. Never noticed! Thanks bud
Nice review. This was the very first full set of transformers I got as a kid.
This is great! My 4 year old son and I have lots of fun watching you transform all the bots!
thanks my friend! truly appreciate it!!!
The older stuff is kinda neat for a restrospective. Can't really remember a ton about the true G1 stuff (plus all of my older toys have been lost over the years) so it's like seeing these things for the first time.
I thought you had this ensamble!!!
Yes! Cybertron Mudflap! thanks! I was gonna make that reference and couldnt remember the name for the life of me!! lol
I've watched a lot of transformers toy reviews, mostly g1 stuff, but this is the first one that i actually felt nostalgic. I don't know why, but watching you transform and talk about them made me remember watching the cartoons and wishing I had these :) Keep up the great work!
And i love THE firetruck!!!
Nice set, mine is showing it's age but still holds together, can't beat G1. He's probably the best proportioned G1 combiner. Great review, keep 'em coming.
totally old school!!!
I had this whole set once too! I remember getting Hot Spot first for Christmas. What happy memories! :)
Streetwise is one of the few interchangable combiners that has a head that is not a connector to the leader leg
I like Hot Spot,Drago
They held a place in my heart because of the comics. In UK, they were special teams, and in US, they were assigned to arrest Goldbug and Blaster by Grimlock
man i wish i was born in the G1 ERA, but sadly i wasn't,BUT if i was i would spent most of my time collecting the G1 figures, and i will getting encores and originals when i get a job, and since you uploaded this guy he will be the first one to find :D

Ahhh, my first ever Autobot combiner brings back the memories, this and Devastator used to be my favorites. Now it's Superion, and Predaking :)
Hot Spot was my first Transformer I had in life.
Nice video.
Had a few of the originals back in the day! Seen the re-mold knock offs a few places. Bought the gift set where Hot Spot is red.
The Protectobots really don't get enough love, they are great combiners and the toys of them are just as good. Nice to see you kept yours in such great condition, Great review mate.

I can't believe this. I HAD A G1 PROTECTOBOT?! I never even knew what they were until I searched this stuff up! I had/have G1 First Aid!!
I only had 3 members of Defensor....Hotspot, first aid and the cop car. Also only had 3 of Menasor (dead end, break down, Motormaster)...and 3 of Superion (no Silverbolt)....and none of Bruticus. Ughn I have poiyyt
Gaz Rees streetwise or streetsmart
My favourite autobot combiner group had them all loved groove for some reason and yep I just got mp grapple and have to be very careful with those tight joints
I'm only 17 and after watching your review I like the g1 version better than the combiner wars version
You can 'fold out' the legs of First Aid in his arm mode, since the other side also has a place fit the fist ( I know, it sounds wrong). This way you can make his First Aid arm longer
thanks my friend!
Got it from Ebay a long time ago.
I love the protectorbots... because they are rescue vehicle transformers...
Cool video as always! Keep up the good work. I love these g1 reviews
Blades is my favorite of the Protectobots because he makes a great addition to my Metroplex and his helipad.

Never had a defensor, very much looking forward to his CW update.
One of the protectobots I had was Hotspot. I even brought it to the school. I said to my classmates who never known him that he was Optimus Prime xD, that made them so jealous. My friends were the only ones in my class to know that it was Hotspot lol
Mitch, miss your throwback Thursdays bud! Hope you are well and hope you come back with more reviews!
Holy crap dude, that looks brand spankin' new!
One heck of an awesome review dude! this figure def. looks kool! nice work my friend!
This is another video of what my mother gave away.....ah man I miss this guy. I remember he was heavy when combined.
When auto bots and deceptions for into a big robot like devastator.you should call it morphing Monday
lol. Do you have him in Red or something?
Great review. I have Hot Spot and he looked awesome up to a few years ago when i got him out of storage. The cab part has started to discolour into green(?).

i love the combiners all of them are super easy to transform
Cool stuff, cool review! You're definitely one of my fave reviewers!
mitchsantona I like what you said about Hotspot with his 2 guns
brings back so many memories
Defensor was always one of my favorite Autobot combiners, ranks up there with Computron for me :) Great review Mitch :)
I just picked up a G1 Defensor recently. I just love those G1 combiners! So far, I've got Defensor, Computron, Abominus, Bruticus and Devastator. Can't wait ti get my TFC Toys version completed!! ^.^
I love tranformers G1 defensor so much it's my favorite combiner tranformers my favorite is blades from the protectobots crazy you might think but I love it I am still trying to get the G1 version of him but soon I will get him one day
my favorite combiner, well, tied with Predaking
Motorcycle Groove same size with other vehicles.
Who would win in a fight 3 Heliformers vs Three Heliformers ok
Vortex,Blackout, and Grindor Decepticons
Vs
Alpha Bravo,Blades,Evac Autobots
Dude I love your reviews keep posting
Protectobots and Defensor needs to make a comeback.
I have had all of them except for Groove for years so I've never been able to make them into Defensor. And Hot Shot is my favorite because I've never seen a blue fire engine.
The weird unknown feature? The "base mode" plugs into metroplex! I hope we see that when Mitch reviews metroplex.
sweet review man ,i might have to pick these guys up at botcon ! LOL
G1 groove has Harley Davidson police motorcycle mode, look it up if you have another thought
Oh, how I miss watching Mitchsantona... The nostalgia.
I think i'm gonna add defensor to my collection. He will look nice next to golden soundwave on the shelf
I am a combaticon fan and I liked this rly cool g1 toy
mitchsantona, you remind me of my Uncle Eric, and he used to have a colection of G1 transformers
You are right man the vintage toys were made to last and on the transformers they did put cool details on to them and nice plastic the new lines are getting very cheap and juts put a loot of hallow parts in to the figure to save money so it sucks, this guys look amazing man each has his own transformation and also form a bad ass giant. great thumps up
Blades is the right arm, First Aid is the left arm Mitch so you made a small error.
no prob man, great vid deserves respect!!
I think you can plug the fist on the bottom of First Aid's feet, so the right arm is longer
