First off, thank you for all the great content. Keep up the great work! Very informative straight to the point!
What are the pros or cons of running Lead Core as opposed to snap weights?

Both have a place and sometimes I run snap weights below the boat and lead core behind the boat. Snap weights are faster to deploy and work better on small complex spots where you can turn around faster. I like how lead core snakes behind the boat for following contours. Some days, most of the fish come on lead and there are other days where snap weights shine and of course days where fish are hitting both. Snap weights do seem to surge more which can be good or bad depending on the day.

Gotcha thank you! Just curious as how The Lure effects the dive curve of the lead? For me, shallow running baits are easier to dial in when running snaps. Is that the case with lead?

When we fish leadcore in the Great Lakes we cut sections of leadcore from 1 to ten colours. The setup consists of 30 lb
braid backing to the section of leadcore then a fluorocarbon or mono leader to the lure. When you fish you would let out the whole section of lead-core followed by twenty or thirty feet of backing. Often when running multiple rods we put the leadcore lines out on planer boards and the inner rods would be on downriggers or dipsey divers.

Watched Gaines do it last year in H2H tournament...was awesome to watch him. He had the salmos...I bought some of them northland rumbles, and the boogie shads...great informative video boss. Are you running boards with the leadcore too? How about dipsey divers and snubbers? I'm super addicted to trolling these days. Like you said, never know what you'll get. It's definitely all about finding the depths and leadcore gets you down there and the humming is music to their ears down there...haha

Give Zach a little air time, he’s the reason I clicked on the video😉

Do you get any line chafe if you don’t let all the leadcore out to the mono backer??

No the lead core will wear out over the summer but I don’t run down to the mono backing unless I run segmented leas core into a planer board which is usually only three colors.

Are you confident in snap on weights at all Jason ??

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors

Yes I use snap weights at times and like that they fish below the boat. I like lead core for snaking behind the boat to follow long contours. I sometimes mix up both to stagger lines.
