There is of course worker placement in Everdell but it’s a Tableau builder first in my opinion. The way you manage resources and build out your 15 card tableau is what the game really centers around and the workers are kinda there to help gather some resources to assist you. One of my favorite games though. So I’d say it’s a tableau building game with elements of worker placement and resource management :)
Yeah, my favorite worker placement game is Lords of Waterdeep. My copy is nearly worn out. It's #81 on BGG with a 7.74 rating with over 50k votes, so while YOU may not like it, that doesn't mean it's not a good game or can't be worthy of a spot on a gamers top 10 worker placement games. A new up and comer for our game group is Galaxy Hunters. Think of it like Pacific Rim in space. Who knew kaiju hunting in space with giant robots could be a great worker placement game? You have a giant robot and a fleet of ships to fly around the galaxy to gather resources and build parts for your robot. To start with, your robot doesn't even have a gun. When you are ready, your giant robot faces off with kaiju and turn in their DNA for bounty. The expansion adding ambassadors and dice to combat is also a good addition to the game.
Recently played Creature Comforts and really enjoyed it. Very unique way the workers and dice are used but very accessible and fun. Would probably make my top 10
I see that you are men of culture, rocking those Geek Bit upgraded components for Targi. I couldn't go back to the cardboard components if I tried. They make me too happy. I don't know how much pull you have with Kosmos but if you have any at all, please tell them that a neoprene mat for Targi with the border cards printed on the mat itself would be a great seller. 💡

I absolutely ADORE [Keyflower]. The way that bidding and working tiles both use meeples giving you an interesting decision on what to commit to. The beautiful simplicity of the coloured meeples allowing you to deliberately block a tile. While I love [a Feast for Odin], I feel the player interaction is a bit too light for me. I think [Keyflower] gets the balance perfect.
So difficult to chose a top 10 because there are so many good WP-games, but Anachrony, Trickerion, Lorenzo il Magnifico, Viticulture, Arnak and Underwater Cities are certainly in my top 10...
My top worker placement games in no particular order would be: Agricola, Architects of the West Kingdom, Targi, Champions of Midgard, Viticulture and Istanbul. It is my wife's favourite mechanic and one of mine too so we have many great games to choose from!

Lords of Waterdeep has never been our favorite and Champions of Midgard is one that we just don’t really play anymore but both are for sure solid games
Excellent list, Rajas is probably our favorite followed by Arle and Feast. Some we like a lot that didn't make the list are Tzol'kin, Beyond the Sun and Whistle Mountain.
Controversial pick here, but I really love the real time aspect of Pendulum. The first time our group played, I knew it was a hit when everyone started standing up around the table to play. Not for everyone, I know, but I always enjoy it.

Have you guys played Ora et Labora? It's got so many cool things in it! A spatial reasoning puzzle, resources that build up over time, the ability to use your opponent's workers, and so much turning resources into other resources.
Good list! My favorite WP is Anachrony. Every decision in the game is just so good and impactful and the theme just hits. Viticulture is very high for me also. On Lords of Waterdeep - I would suggest that the expansion is really required to make it contend, especially the corruption module. I don't know if that's top 10 material, but it's at least one to try.
WP is my favorite mechanic. I love games that give you more to consider than just the resource acquired or blocking. That’s why Underwater Cities and Raiders of Scythia are 2 of my favorites.
Love Uwe! A Feast for Odin is one of my favorites as well. And I can't wait to get Wayfarers in, it's super solid! Though, can't believe there's not a Lacerda on this list. Those are some of my favorite worker placements haha
Targi is such a sleeper. It does so much with so little. Totally portable, small box, but the experience and immersion is much larger than its package. The expansion is SO not necessary, as usual.
Love worker placement. It's one of my favorite mechanics. Kanban EV is my favorite game and favorite worker placement. I love the theme and how thematic it is. Architects, Raiders, Viticulture are great too!

All excellent games! Not sure if it is in my top 10, but I like to recommend Coldwater Crown. It is a good way to ease into the concept of placing workers to do actions since there aren't a ton of different spaces to go to. Also has some lovely Beth Sobel art.
One of my favorite worker placement games, out of the handful I've played, is Fallout Shelter. It was a very pleasant surprise when I first played it. It's also a fantastic intro worker placement game.
I knew I like worker placement but until I looked more closely at it this morning, I didn't realize that most of my top 10 include this mechanism. A Feast for Odin, Dune Imperium, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Underwater Cities, Tzolkin, Viticulture, and Dinosaur Island

Hey guys i finally got to play rages of the ganges and loved it. My buddy helped design viticulture world. My top 10 are Everdell, dinosaur Island, champions of Midgard, a feast for odin, targi, la havre, architects of the west kingdom, rages of the Ganges, lorenzo il magnifico, and tiny epic galaxies.
Nice to see some different games in that list compare to the ones we saw almost in every list. There's still a few i still like to play such as : Anachrony (took too much space but still a blast) Little Town (took no place at all, and great for newbies) Architect of the west kingdoms (and or) Raiders of the north sea (that one i like more on the app) Cheers
Some very good choices! I think I could be quite content if the only worker placement games I owned were Stone Age and Agricola. Stone Age is lighter, has a bit of push-your-luck and laughing-at-others'-misfortune fun in it--and Agricola is sooooooooo crunchy and has a bunch of great cards mini-expansions.

Honey Buzz is great! That's the game that I taught my parents worker placement with. Can't wait for Lost Ruins of Arnak to be delivered (I just ordered it)! That one looks awesome! Same with Wayfarers! I've also really enjoyed Architects of the West Kingdom, Parks, and My Father's Work. Viticulture is definitely my favorite worker placement game. Honey Buzz was a Honey Bust for me. Others I enjoy are: Paladins of the Wesr Kingdom Underwater Cities Barrage Way of the Panda (EXTREMELY UNDERRATED!!!) If you like the "spots become more expensive" idea of Honey Buzz, give Way of the Panda a shot.

I went through my top 100 list. Here’s my top 10 worker placement games (I’ve excluded dice placement) 10. Paladins of the West Kingdom 9. Stone Age 8. Dune: Imperium 7. Beyond the Sun 6. The Lost Ruins of Arnak 5. Tzolkin: the Mayan Calendar 4. Keyflower 3. Caverna: the Cave Farmers 2. A Feast for Odin 1. Dominant Species
You should try out Cryo and Argent The Consortium. Cryo has three workers which you place out then return to your player board, and your player board has six actions you can fit a worker onto when you return the board which you customize by pulling resources from the main board using your first set of worker placement actions. Good for other reasons as well, but as a worker placement system that's where it shines. In Argent your workers are mages of different colors and have special power associated with them. So a red mage can be placed where someone has already placed their mage and wound them with their special power. Unless it's a nature mage who is immune to wounding. So not only are you jockeying for positions to place workers, but your workers can directly interact with others in meaningful ways and boost your eventual resolving of the action they're placed on.

Hmm...I think you guys missed a trick here by combining strict worker placement with dice placement. I'd like to have seen a top 10 for each. Also surprised to see some absolute classic WP games missing: Lords of Waterdeep, Russian Railroads and Underwater Cities!

We haven’t been using our house rule just because certain game elements give that ability to draw differently. And with being Able to do trades and such we have some workarounds
Viticulture and Stone Age we would match on. Others of mine would include Dune Imperium, Kingsburg, Raiders of Scythia, Pillars of the Earth, Key Flower, Caverna, Lords of Waterdeep.

hey there! yeah it's tough when the theme doesn't grab you and while we absolutely adore Viticulture, it may just not be your bag. With "World" you don't need Tuscany to play it however you can incorporate some Tuscany elements if you wish. We haven't done that yet ourselves

You guys play plenty more games than me (and would be entitled to your own opinion, regardless), so I don't take offense at my favorites' exclusion from the list. I just want to shout them out: Tzolk'in is fantastic! --though also one of the games that gives me the most analysis paralysis and Everdell needs no extra fanfare, but I'd be lying if I didn't mention it among my favorite worker-placement games -- also an understandable exclusion from the list as it isn't solely or primarily a worker-placement game
Those are both games that were on our extended list for sure! Fantastic choices and everdell I think of as more of a worker placement game than most folks. Sure it’s about that sweet sweet tableau building but those workers are so precious!
Finally got to try viticulture recently and it was... good, nothing mindblowing but solid. I feel like I missed the hype train on this one :( I totally agree on Rajas however. That is an amaaazing game

not that we don't care for it so much as we prefer newer worker placement games that maybe do more than what LoWD did? It certainly paved the way for many great worker placement games that followed.

Start with patchwork or New York Zoo. If that’s too easy for you, and you want to tackle his big games, I’d say Nusfjord or Hallertau. Feast, Caverna, and Le Havre are amazing games but much heavier, so I would suggest working up to those. Cheers!
Agreed with Canned_Ice there. If you want to jump into an "Uwe game" meaning the farming games, I'd start with Hallertau. Lots of stuff on the table but I found that one to be very accessible given its size. Everything made sense to me in that game and it'd be the one I'd teach to people first. Nusjord and/or Le Havre would be my next choices and from there I'd work up to the Feast for Odins and Cavernas.

hahaha pump that algorithm regardless! and yeah that's the only knock I guess you could give Rajas. If it was made 2 years later I think 100% there'd be a solo but that was just before gamers really started pushing for solo modes in games.
I don't qualify Arnak as a worker placement game. Yes you have two workers but their impact on the game is so absolutely minor that it doesn't apply. Except in round one, blocking a player out doesn't matter. The game is the track and if you can make something useful happen with the (weaker) deckbuilding. I just don't get how it qualifies on this list.
Ah we see it so differently. I think you can make great use of those couple workers even though you don’t have a large pool of them. And basically for our list, if it has worker placement in it and we like it, it qualifies

Lacerda has always eluded us for some reason. We have played a number Lacerda games, but we've never really loved any of them for some reason :(

All excellent games! Not sure if it is in my top 10, but I like to recommend Coldwater Crown. It is a good way to ease into the concept of placing workers to do actions since there aren't a ton of different spaces to go to. Also has some lovely Beth Sobel art.

One of my favorite worker placement games, out of the handful I've played, is Fallout Shelter. It was a very pleasant surprise when I first played it. It's also a fantastic intro worker placement game.

Hey guys i finally got to play rages of the ganges and loved it. My buddy helped design viticulture world. My top 10 are Everdell, dinosaur Island, champions of Midgard, a feast for odin, targi, la havre, architects of the west kingdom, rages of the Ganges, lorenzo il magnifico, and tiny epic galaxies.
Ah we're so glad you got to play Rajas! It's soooooo good! Now go try the dice game!

Some very good choices! I think I could be quite content if the only worker placement games I owned were Stone Age and Agricola. Stone Age is lighter, has a bit of push-your-luck and laughing-at-others'-misfortune fun in it--and Agricola is sooooooooo crunchy and has a bunch of great cards mini-expansions.

Murph-tastic video as always 🙂, I would agree with your number one. Lords of Waterdeep is a family favourite of ours. Circadians First light is a good dice 'worker' placement game.
Right on Lords is a classic that made the path easier to wander for designers looking to explore worker placement mechanisms that's for sure. and good call on Circadians!

Honey Buzz is great! That's the game that I taught my parents worker placement with. Can't wait for Lost Ruins of Arnak to be delivered (I just ordered it)! That one looks awesome! Same with Wayfarers! I've also really enjoyed Architects of the West Kingdom, Parks, and My Father's Work. And then my shelf of shame includes Trickerion and Whistle Mountain, both of which I'm looking forward to playing. I will have to try out Feast for Odin and Viticulture too... Great list, guys! Viticulture is definitely my favorite worker placement game. Honey Buzz was a Honey Bust for me. Others I enjoy are:

You should try out Cryo and Argent The Consortium. Cryo has three workers which you place out then return to your player board, and your player board has six actions you can fit a worker onto when you return the board which you customize by pulling resources from the main board using your first set of worker placement actions. Good for other reasons as well, but as a worker placement system that's where it shines.
In Argent your workers are mages of different colors and have special power associated with them. So a red mage can be placed where someone has already placed their mage and wound them with their special power. Unless it's a nature mage who is immune to wounding. So not only are you jockeying for positions to place workers, but your workers can directly interact with others in meaningful ways and boost your eventual resolving of the action they're placed on.
Noice. We’ve played cryo and agree on the stuff you mentioned it’s neat for sure! And haven’t tried Argent but that does sound really interesting

Awesome list! Have you tried Whistle Mountain though? It has been regarded as a very solid worker placement game also based on tile laying game AND insane combos throughout the game. I would love to hear you thought!

Hmm...I think you guys missed a trick here by combining strict worker placement with dice placement. I'd like to have seen a top 10 for each.
Also surprised to see some absolute classic WP games missing: Lords of Waterdeep, Russian Railroads and Underwater Cities!
We were trying to decide where to draw the line but we’re happy with our list. We’ll probably do a dice placement worker list too in the future
When is Wayfarers of the South Tigris coming out?
Kickstarter says December but they fulfilled the Viscounts expansion Kickstarter 2 months early. So I’m hoping October but I’m not expecting that
I believer the hope/expectation is before the end of the year. So getting close!
Should be this year, Garphill usually fulfills early. But we can't say for certain

We haven’t been using our house rule just because certain game elements give that ability to draw differently. And with being Able to do trades and such we have some workarounds
Viticulture and Stone Age we would match on. Others of mine would include Dune Imperium, Kingsburg, Raiders of Scythia, Pillars of the Earth, Key Flower, Caverna, Lords of Waterdeep.

hey there! yeah it's tough when the theme doesn't grab you and while we absolutely adore Viticulture, it may just not be your bag. With "World" you don't need Tuscany to play it however you can incorporate some Tuscany elements if you wish. We haven't done that yet ourselves

You guys play plenty more games than me (and would be entitled to your own opinion, regardless), so I don't take offense at my favorites' exclusion from the list. I just want to shout them out: Tzolk'in is fantastic! --though also one of the games that gives me the most analysis paralysis
and Everdell needs no extra fanfare, but I'd be lying if I didn't mention it among my favorite worker-placement games -- also an understandable exclusion from the list as it isn't solely or primarily a worker-placement game
Those are both games that were on our extended list for sure! Fantastic choices and everdell I think of as more of a worker placement game than most folks. Sure it’s about that sweet sweet tableau building but those workers are so precious!
Finally got to try viticulture recently and it was... good, nothing mindblowing but solid. I feel like I missed the hype train on this one :(

not that we don't care for it so much as we prefer newer worker placement games that maybe do more than what LoWD did? It certainly paved the way for many great worker placement games that followed.
@@TheBrothersMurph That's totally fair. I feel that way about Dominion. Was it groundbreaking? Absolutely. Has almost ever deck builder since then improved upon the formula? Almost certainly. Everyone has different game tastes though, and they're all valid. Keep up the good work and im excited to see that Uwe video you tooootally promised you'd make! Haha

Start with patchwork or New York Zoo. If that’s too easy for you, and you want to tackle his big games, I’d say Nusfjord or Hallertau. Feast, Caverna, and Le Havre are amazing games but much heavier, so I would suggest working up to those. Cheers!
Agreed with Canned_Ice there. If you want to jump into an "Uwe game" meaning the farming games, I'd start with Hallertau. Lots of stuff on the table but I found that one to be very accessible given its size. Everything made sense to me in that game and it'd be the one I'd teach to people first. Nusjord and/or Le Havre would be my next choices and from there I'd work up to the Feast for Odins and Cavernas.
You can start with Caverna or Hallertau. But for me, Caverna is doing the real job and it's not that heavy ruleswise
So I love worker placement games and I haven’t watched the video yet. BUT HAS THAT STOPPED ME FROM BEING STOKED AND LIKING THIS VIDEO!?…no it hasn’t. ***update*** finished the video. It was amazing of course. I really wanna try Ganges but it’s not solo 😩
hahaha pump that algorithm regardless! and yeah that's the only knock I guess you could give Rajas. If it was made 2 years later I think 100% there'd be a solo but that was just before gamers really started pushing for solo modes in games.
I don't qualify Arnak as a worker placement game. Yes you have two workers but their impact on the game is so absolutely minor that it doesn't apply. Except in round one, blocking a player out doesn't matter. The game is the track and if you can make something useful happen with the (weaker) deckbuilding. I just don't get how it qualifies on this list.
Ah we see it so differently. I think you can make great use of those couple workers even though you don’t have a large pool of them. And basically for our list, if it has worker placement in it and we like it, it qualifies
