I first watched Matthieu van der Poel riding ten years ago in cyclocross by the age of 16 when he had no opponent at Junior level and the only remaining question was, how many of the bunch will he lap today? Wout van Aert always was racing an age class above, yet not a serial winner due to very talented competition. However, when WvA's age class made their impact on cyclocross Elite level, they totally took over and put many renowned cyclocrossers into retirement, as they raised the competition level significantly. Soon followed by MvdP, who dramatically shortened his young guns period to level up into Elite for even more excitement. Since then, Wout remained the only serious competitor who is able to beat a Matthieu on from. But it's not only his display of power, it's the combination with incredible technical skills as well. When "Superman" MvdP overplayed his crazy game in cyclocross, "Hulk, the mud monster" WvA, on eye-level in terms of brute force, was taking over...

I did enjoy the little rivalry between Schelling and Perez. I'm sure the sponsors like it!
Stage three sprint goes to Ewan? Head says Ewan, heart wants Cav. Not sure what's up with Sagan.
No idea about yellow-I called it wrong the first two stages. I doubt it goes to an INEOS rider, and I think that's the safest bet I can make.
Thanks, LR. I enjoyed it as usual.

Cav looks good, he sat up before the end of the intermediate split, if he went all in I think he could have challenged Ewan. Ewan still favourite tomorrow, but if he gets his positioning wrong again Cav is looking good for it. (Especially as Merlier is riding injured).

Just starting to learn more about racing, who determines which rider on a team is going to be a GC contender? Is it determined by the team before the race begins?

Weird to think van der poel probably won't finish the tour because he wants to win the mountainbiking gold medal at the olympics.

I hope he'll stay through at least the first rest day. Stage 10 looks very winnable if he can manage to go into a good break away. Departing after a bang!

Watching MVDP close down and then come over the top of NairoMan on a climb in the TDF is so very strangely satisfying....

I wouldn't be surprised to see mvdp up there tomorrow, he's capable of getting a top3. Considering that he would love some bonus seconds and that Merlier is not looking too good after yesterday's crash, we might see a change of plan from alpecin.
Top3 of tomorrow for me: Colbrelli, Nairoman, MVDP. Nairo wearing green by winning IS.
