wow, this lady really tried, she is amazing. I've never seen anyone translate Asake's song like this or any other Yoruba based song for that matter. Big ups.
"Abinibi yato s'ability Ẹsọ fun wọn tan ba teri si Wọn ma pa lori" - I'd translate that part as innate ability is different learned ability(agbara), so tell them if they try to reason it (teri si) they'll go bald (Won ma pa lori) i.e his ability or style is so natural and unmatched (yato si ability) that if someone tries to reason it or learn it they'll go bald because of how difficult it is. This follows the next bars where he sings its not by mouth and people who people respect, respect him cos there is no one like him (Tẹnu kọ, emi promising Awọn tẹ fọ fun, fọ fun mi Tori ko sẹ lomi)
I have been hooked on afrobeats and specifically Nigerian artists for three years now. As an American, I can piece together the broken English and Nigerian Pidgin, but at a loss when it comes to the Yoruba or Igbo, but always really wanted to know what was being said. I must have watched 7 of your videos in a row: 2:30, Sability, Kante, Love Nwantiti, Organise, Xtra Cool, Wan Da Mo, Loaded. All songs I love so much. Glad I found this channel, and it's even showing me some songs I maybe wasn't aware of that I'm going to start listening to.
When I got to the part where you listed the songs out, I genuinely laughed and smiled out of appreciation for you doing that lol. Thanks sooo much I’m happy I am able to help 🙂 it’s impressive that you were able to understand the Pidgin English though as I know that’s often very hard for some
@@simbihawt I've spent some time looking up and trying to figure out the Pidgin English on my own, so I know a little, but only so much I can find online, so really love these specific breakdowns! I'm sure you've got a long list of song requests, but if you ever find yourself needing a song recommendation for a break down, my two I'd be interested in seeing would be Asake/Olamide's song "Omo Ope" and Bayanni's song "Kala."
@@MrLukec16 that’s good that you have been doing your research. I can tell you’re really into it that’s great. Thanks for understanding! Omo ope by Asake is on my list so it may take some time but I will try and get to it. I’ve never heard Kala before so I will listen and confirm with you 🙂
@@simbihawt Bayanni has a verse on Wan Da Mo, which I love. I think he's a fairly newer artist and signed with Mavin Records. Really like his sound and hoping he releases more music soon.

A few moments in the song to focus on and think about: He mentions people who have fake loyalty in the beginning of the song and that use their mouths for deception in a way. Then in 5:07 to 7:43, Asake is letting us know that many people want to be like him and that they should not stress themselves out because there is only one of him and he’s the best. He also starts off the second stanza of the song saying “I came here to just play/joke around not to fight.” Do artists normally say people want to be like them in their songs and say that they are the best? Yes, all of the time. Is it possible he can be shading other artists? Yes, it is possible in the points I made above. Can I say for sure the song is to shade other artists? The simple answer is no…but this is what makes music fun sometimes lol everyone gets their own meaning and puts two and two together. So what do you think with the question you asked me? You’re welcomeee and you call me Goddess of Breakdown every video haha it’s an honor lol
Yeah, I call u Goddess bcos u are not only beautiful but u keep giving us beautiful craft work as well. U do what Goddess does. I read from other platform that "2:30" was a direct 'shade' to Seyi Vibez for copying Asake but after listening to impeccable breakdown, I realized the song wasn't necessarily meant for Seyi . Thanks for helping.

Yes, his first language is Yoruba and he gets the inspiration from his mom/grandma who is actually the one named Asake. Notice how Asake is a woman’s name?
Asake is deep. He’s saying he’s not about fighting….see how he ryhmed sokoto penpe, which means knicker…with ni’ka (ni ika, which means wickedness) and it still all marked complete sense with not being interested in fights but play(ere)?
