- Continuing to try out round balers. This time trying out a Kuhn VB 3155 on a new piece of property we just picked up. We are baling with a John Deere 4250 #farming #dairyfarm #equipment #hay #balinghay #roundbales
Love the video, and action shots, thanks Mike
Thank you Will
That did a nice job, we been baling with a maxim, has a reverser and rear view mirrors. Helps keep a eye on the discharged bale.
Thanks Gary. I thought it made a pretty nice bale
Nice video. We've had the same incidents with bales chasing us down hills in the past, but we've learned that when we are baling on hills to back up and put the bale against the hill so it doesn't roll. Very well put together demo
Thank you Travis
Top notch job with the new baler! Nick, North West Farmer (Oregon)
Thank you Nick
Looks like it did a great job. Beautiful land right there awesome view while you work
I'm glad we were able to get an opportunity to work these fields. They do have some great views
Looks like the Kuhn made some really nice bales. Thanks for the good video.
Thank you. I thought they were some nice bales
Excellent work there sir... kuhn make great equipment. You treat demos with respect which is nice to see which will also help you get more demos 😁 reliability and after sales is always big players in the purchase of any machine.. stay safe 🏴
Thanks Ian. Its good to treat other people's equipment as if it was your own when you are using it
I really like the tires on the baler. Didn't really grow up round baling either, so always enjoyed it when I got the opportunity.
Yeah I really liked the tires on the baler too
That baler looked good behind your green tractor. Correct color coordination is the secret to making great bales. Lol
Haha thats very true Jeff. The nice nice orange of the baler and rake takes the attention off the green of the tractors LOL
Nice baler Mike way to go
Thank you
Brings back memories of baling with I 4240 and a John Deere 510 round baler back in the 80s and 90s !! We custom baled a lot of hay and ran a Vermeer before that but the Deere was easier to start a bale and just less problems then the Vermeer was back then
Sounds like good memories
Great content as always you can move pretty fast with that round baler
Thank you john. It did a great job
Great awesome video mike , love that baler , try a knone baler too
I would love to try a krone. No dealer around me had one to demo though
That was a great video!! And very informative. Sadly none of the dealers in our area do demos anymore unless you have a purchase agreement all signed
Thank you Jerry. That's a shame. What happens if you agree then hate it in the demo. Hopefully there is a clause that allows you to back out
Yes if demo was bad then can toss the papers
Kuhn makes great equipment. If I remember correctly years ago kuhn mowers and jd were the same.
I agree, Kuhn makes great equipment. I think its the big balers that are the same
Almost hit the 20K Mike, overhere in the netherlands the Kuhn brand stands for quality just saying, personily we dont make round only square bales, i wish you a lot of wisdom and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
Thanks Menno. I really like Kuhn equipment
It is ,but not cheap
your right you have to back up then go forward, good video,
Glad you enjoyed it
The Kuhn baler will make silage bales much better than the john deere. The European balers are just made heavier for silage while Deere and New Holland were just originally made for dry hay only then updated to do silage. That's just my experience with them and it not my money that will be spent. Good luck
Thank you Rob. It definitely was a great baler
Really like the Kuhn equipment seems to be built really well we have a Kuhn rake and Tedder and like them both really well..always have kinda been interested in the Kuhn bailers but over here in Ohio the JD dealerships are Kuhn dealers as well and they like selling the Kuhn rake and other equipment but when it comes to the bailers the push the deer bailers they don't like to sell the Kuhn bailers and if u show any interest they always have some good b.s reason y they can't get them or something....wish I could of tried one but since Deere wouldn't get me one I bought a New Holland rb450 bailer and it is a really really good bailer 👍👍..
I think the Kuhn was much better than the John Deere that I demoed. I heard the New Hollands are pretty good too
thank you
Thank you
You cant go wrong with a kuhn mike those things are a beast
Thank you Travis
Do they clog?
Do they clog?
Do they clog?
Do they clog?
Looks like a good baler Mike. I don't think you could go wrong with the Kuhn. Or Deere of New Holland for that matter. Get the one that makes you say "Dam that does a great job".
Thanks Scott
My round bales were a huge gain with all the rains in western wa. I had great hay with them, and quicker to bale than small squares
I'd like to make more rounds and less squares
Great video Mike you did great nice bales how are they in size comparison to the other balers and net wrap is a must I think
Thanks Paul. Every baler I've tried have been a 4x5 baler. These bales were nice and tight
Awesome looks really nice baler i always reverse and put the bale where i want it 🤞
Thank you. It definitely was a really nice looking baler
As long as you have a good dealer and can get parts for it the Kuhn looks like a nice baler. I still prefer the Case IH balers for parts availability etc. Mine is the older Case IH RS 451 with floatation tires, bale monitor, wrap, and kicker all for $8,500 used. The farmer that traded it went for a silage model. Round baling is the way to go. You should also consider a silage model as drying hay is not easy in NY.
Thanks Randy. I was really impressed with the Case baler when I looked at it
Hello from sweden 🇸🇪! We do roundbales of all the hay that not fit in the 3 silos we have on the farm. And we have plastic wraper on the baler so we can store all the bales outside😊
Thank you. Sounds like you make a lot of round bales
@@mikep7810 we did about 450 bales in 1 harvest . We do 2 harvest per year. I am waiting four your next video😇👍! Do you have a instagram that I can follow?
@UrbanKarlsson-qm1dx Yes I am mikep7810 on Instagram
We don't have a round baler as you know. Not sure if we will ever get one but if we do, at least through you we feel we have an honest representation of the pros and cons of all the different makes and actually how to use one. Sonne Farms uses a John Deere round baler with a 3 bale accumulator. I don't know if all makes have one or not but I think that would be great for picking them up from the field. I look forward to which make you go with when the decision is made.
Thanks Anthony. I plan on making a video going over all the balers
Hi Mike. Longtime follower love the videos. Kinda cool watching how the farm grows over the yrs , Equipment wise. Three thumbs up👍👍👍was that the 42 on the Kuhn baler?
Thank you Bill. Yes I had the 4250 on the round baler
Have you thought about trying out a Vermeer too? They are really nice balers and make a tight bale as well.
They look nice but I don't have a Vermeer dealer around me
Mike if you can demo a Kubota/ knverland baler give them a try. You won't be disappointed!!! Jonh deeres baler technology is way behind the rest.
I would but I don't really want to deal with the dealership that sells the kubota round balers
@@mikep7810 that's too bad. But the dealer makes it or breaks it
Buy the John Deere 460 m with bale kicker and chain oiler . If it fits under the tractor it will bale it . Awesome baler😀👍
Thanks Jim
look's good
Thank you David
Great video. Those bailers look like they make a good solid bale. How heavy you think they were? How did they stack up against the others you’ve tried out? Awesome job bud…
Thanks Rick. Kuhn really did a great job and and ranked right up there
Yeah your horse farming friends just rolled a bale down the hill through the fence towards their house. Funniest tracks in the grass
My horse farming friends? Which friends is that?
@@mikep7810 the folks west of Jack's body shop
@brianstevens2327 the farm up on the hill?
@@mikep7810 I think they are Smiths. Very nice black barn
@brianstevens2327 I don't get over that way much. Hopefully no one was hurt
What gear are you running while you’re balling?? I have a 4050 MFD PowerShift& a Vermeer 504 pro Baler, I run 9th- 10th gear while I’m balling!!!
Watch the inclosed balers for heat and fire that's why we had a John Deere 400 it's open
Thank you Joe
In my opinion, all round balers that have the ramp option should have them installed. I have seen to many issues from not having the ramp installed.
If we end up going with this baler it will have a ramp
What are your plans on how you will feed the bales? Do you need to get an unwinder? Are you going to feed him outside?
Right now we are feeding them outside. The more we go to them and go away from squares I will more than likely put them in the hay mow and unroll them down the shoot
Be curious on your comparison between the deere and kuhn. . .
I plan on doing a video discussing the 4 balers we were considering and what we went with and why
So, which features did you prefer after using both balers? Pros/cons on both.
I like the monitor on the Kuhn and the pick up head on the Kuhn was much better
Baler worked well. Bales look tight. Who has to move them and with what?
I get them the next day with our wheel loader, truck and trailer
@@mikep7810 I bet you enjoy that more than a day stacking them in the hay mow!
Which Baler makes a more denser Bale John Deere or the kuhn?
Kuhn makes a better, more dense bale
How did you set it up and the monitor… settings ??
I have the core set for 2000 psi and the bale for 2500 psi and that seems to make a nice bale.
Have you considered large square bales ?
No I haven't
I know it's someone else's equipment but did you take the time to push the baler a bit. I see people running the new Kubota balers in road gear (almost). What's you think?
I was able to bump up a gear or two and push it a little. I do go a little slower when I'm driving and flying the drone at the same time
@@mikep7810 I didn’t think about the drone and I think you mentioned in the video how rough the ground is.
@billwhitman1529 Yeah there were some spots that were pretty bumpy. Didn't want to be bouncing the thing across the field
@@mikep7810 lol
Any idea what the weight and moisture of the bales are ?
I'm not sure the exact weight but I know there was a lot of hay packed into them. It was good and dry hay
do you store your bales or rap them?
I use bale covers
Awesome video Mike, how many round bailer brands are you planning on trying out?
We are set trying them out. We made a decision and I'm going to make a video talking about the 4 different balers and why we went with the one we went with
@@mikep7810 sweet looking forward to it.
Peterson farm brothers have a kubota baler and really like it may want to see about one of them
Thanks Matt. I don't really want to deal with the dealership that sells the kubota round balers around here
I can’t believe any baler even comes from the factory with out a kicker
Yeah I hear ya
For the amount of bales your going to bale a good used machine would suit you just fine.
I did look at a couple used ones. Looks like they were worked pretty hard and traded in for a reason
@@mikep7810 how many bales a year are you planning to do?
@dylanbarber9053 Start off around 500 maybe more then go up from there
So, you like kuhn or J.D. better?
I like the Kuhn baler better
Good to know. Ive been thinking of a different baler. Running old new holland. Not a fan of it.
Try a new holland mad in new holland pa great balers what was wrong with your nh cutter great videos
Had a neighbor bale with his new holland. It made a great bale. The mower needs the head either rebuilt or a new head on it
Sorry I didn’t mean to sound rude on your last video. I assumed the ramp was standard equipment. Ours had it. Ours was a New Holland.
You didn't sound rude. A bunch of people asked about it
That monitor could be bigger. Seems tiny
I thought it was good
Instead of sitting there while baler is wrapping Y don't U just keep going and take the bale down by one of the other bales and drop it off next to it and save yourself some time picking up hay???
It doesn't take that long for the bale to wrap. as soon as I back up the bale is wrapping. I dump it out and on I go
Beside drought I would not sell a bale less than hundred your looking at equipment over 125 k go figure not including land lime horse 🐎 people get ready
Yeah even used equipment isn't cheap anymore
U stiil have to back up on every bale... u arent driving very fast for that size windrow. I would say its not worth the money! My 30 yr old new holland does better. I havent backed up in over 40yrs!
Well Ted I'm baling that fast for 2 main reasons #1 ground conditions. We just picked up this field and it was pretty rough and second is I'm flying a drone and baling. If you paid attention in the video I said if we go with this baler we would have the ramp put on it so indont have to back up. I've seen bales out of 30 year old new hollands and there is no way your baler is better than this one
@@mikep7810 my baler is paid off! Mine probably arent as dense so u might make a few less bales. The drone can fly itself. I still dont get the logic of a 40 yr old tractor with crappy seat and no suspenion. U could bale 2x as fast with a better tractor. Not to mention be way less exhausted at the end of the day. All i can afford is a 20yr old tractor but at least it has air ride seat and ifs radials. Rides fantatic vs the 4440 i grew up running.
@@crazyhass84 I'm glad your baler is paid off Ted. I'm glad you can go really fast with it across the field. If I put someone in my equipment and I saw they were bouncing across the field like I would have been in this rough field if I went faster then that would be the last time they ever worked for me. Beat the heck out of the equipment but at least you got the field done fast. Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for your comment man, good luck getting all your hay made. Have a great day
