It was a verbal bitch slap to RCA as he was leaving them, because the company was taking advantage of him and lying to him (I'm not sure about what, but listen to the words of the song). This wasn't about making a hit single. It was about making a statement. While I prefer "From Here to Zero," I understand and I fully appreciate what he did with "Last Song."
Love this song, but I'm glad he did The Last Song I'll Write for You on idol..it has more impact IMO..This is a song that needs minimal instrumentation for David's beautiful falsetto to be heard...I too hope it is on his next album but only done acoustically...to me it had no impact when I heard it played on a bigger stage with full band in Manila.JMO
