    It was an amazing lesson. I was so confused with 'would' for a long period of time. Well, I would say you come up with all the possible ideas where we use 'would'. Before watching this video I've watched several videos but I did miss some point. After watching this video I suspect I wouldn't have any confusion with 'would' and I must say you deserve more views. Thank you specifically for making this video.

    the best thing in this video is that you cover all possibilities of using "would". but you must tell along every sentence that you can use here other modal verbs or any other method of saying. the same sentence of would

    As you already know would is the conditional form of the verb to be. I noticed that when you mentioned that this can be used for refusing things you seemed a little curious possibly to why this is? Let me give you an example if I can. I asked my teenage daughter to not run up the phone bill. In order to persuade her I offered her more freedom with her friends but she just wouldn't comply. We use the conditional because it shows that no matter what "conditional persuasion was ppresented not even then would she do this or that.

    Thanks.
    I have a question:
    Yesterday, I posted a question on the forum, then I got the following answer:
    "As written, it is not a gerund, it is a participle. It would be a gerund if the "Sarah" were changed to "Sarah's". "
    Now, I want to know why she/he used the "would" ?!

    • @AntoniaRomaker
      @AntoniaRomaker  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mickey Mouse it is an imaginary situation in present/future, so we imagine that "Sarah" is changed to "Sarah's", then we use a gerund, not a participle ;)
      Another example:
      If I had a lot of money, I would spend half on charity.

    Hello!! I have read in grammar section(www.espressoenglish.net/difference-between-should-could-and-would/) that use COULD and COULDN’T for ability in the past and possibility in the future.
    Ex.
    1. When I was younger, I could run a mile in 7 minutes. Now it takes me 20 minutes!
    2. Yesterday, I couldn’t find my wallet anywhere - but this morning I found it.
    3. Last year, he couldn’t speak English very well, but now he can.
    But here you at 5:59 using WOULD(4th function)instead of could. you said in the example
    'I would go to school every day when i was a kid.'
    Can we say it like: I could go to school when iI was a kid.
    And also 8:36
    'That would be his sister'
    Can it not be : It could be his sister.
    Can you please explain. I am really confused.

      And a lot of other websites i have read also made me confused about the use of would/could.

      Varun Gupta 'I would go to school every day' and 'I could go to school every day' have different meanings, 'could' is connected with a possibility I had, or my habbit, while 'would' defines a repeated action, so you can just say 'when I was in Paris, I would just go out in the evening and admire the view.' However in some respect they are more or less close, so in such contests you they are kinda interchangeable.
      'That would be his sister' and 'that could be his sister' are also very close, but in the first sentence you are a little more determined, you are 'more sure' that it's actually his sister.

    • @AntoniaRomaker
      @AntoniaRomaker  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Yam Maya Gurung double had is used only if you need the Past Perfect form of the verb 'have', so the first 'had' is the auxiliary verb of Past Perfect and the second 'had' is the past participle of the verb 'have'.

      +amit sur we use 'if' when we talk about some conditions, which make something possible, for example:
      I will eat more vegitables, if you make them taste better.
      If I had a million dollars, I would buy a big house.

    As a German I'd say there's not a big difference between " could've done or would've done" because you would actually never say "I would have done smth." In Germany you say "I could've done it."
    My question is if can I always use " Could+have+done" instead of " Would+have+done"?
    I'm looking forward to getting your answer :)

      In English they are not completely the same, but very close, 'would' sounds more polite I guess
