Adam, your tutorials are brilliant. I committed to restoring a 1992 Series 3 Daimler Double Six based solely on the confidence I gained watching your videos. Please keep up the great work!
Was a bit overwhelmed when I first saw the v12 xjs, but after watching your videos that are so well explained, I'm ready to buy my first one, doing a great job Adam. Paul&Annie from Taupo NZ
Came across your channel and glad to see someone posting about the beloved V12, had my XJS for 9 years and even though I did my timing different (helps to have a 2nd person, and a timing light) being old school, I'm 65 I did mine by sound, feel and smell. the feel part, is placing a hand on the engine and feeling it smooth; you smell, just that the smell of the exhaust, sound how it sounds when you throttle it up ( no shudder, lag or hic-cup) forgot to mention, mine is a 1984
All your videos are extremely helpful. I do have exactly the same engine from a V12 XJC 1975. The timing of my engine could be done since a white bar was already set at 10 degrees. It just needs to align with the mark on the flying wheel. Furthermore I bought the set for the tubes and rubbers of the injectors to replace the (terrible) old ones. I did recently replace all the fuel hoses with brand new ones though. So this had still to be done. On your video (fire in our engine) the instruction how to replace the old ones again is very helpful!
great videos on great cars. I love watching them all. I myself have a XJ 6 series 2 from 1978 and a XJS 5:3 v12 after facelift from 1992. I appreciate it very much. Cheers from Germany. Tobias
enjoy your vids and approach as a DIY. I don't have a Jag but love them. BUT! its crazy they put the ignition box right on the hottest part of the engine, and that you have to lay on your stomach to time the thing! lol I guess if they weren't quirky then they'd just be a chevrolet.
Great videos thanks keep them coming. Question? can you tell me the model of the sanden A/c compressor you have installe on the PRE HE. I want to get rid of my old A6 thks regards Brett
Well done! However, for people who really want to know everything without really understanding it, you could tell what couterclockwise or clockwise do. I think you change the baseplate of the distributor with the nut to set it? If so, making the plate turn counter rotorwise, you will have more advance of course. Many thanks! Discovered this channel by looking up how the d jetronic works. Also added a comment on that video. Thanks and be safe! Cheers from Belgium! Didn’t you forget to rise idle a bit or do these engine idle that low?
Hello again Adam, Adram Caleb down below said that a 1990 XJS's timing is controled by the ecm. Is it possible to check the timing with a timing light to see if it is correct at idle. My car is very sluggish and won't rev over 3,000. Maybe it is a bad ecm or a pluged up cat. converter. Any thoughts? Thanks, Doug
So on an 87 XJS you don’t use this method? It’s done with a computer, is that correct? Thank you- been subscribed for several years and have got loads of info from you videos!!
Bonjour j’ai une xjs v12 de 1988 avec un antidemarrage. Comment je peux faire pour le supprimer. Comment contrôler que l’ECU fonctionne correctement Cordialement Laurent
Thanks so much for the knowledge you share to everyone. By the way, I am looking for air condition fan speed control for my XJS, part # JLM1161. I could not find it. Can you give me a hint ?
I have a 1990 XJS with the V12 Marerli. It is backfiring. I think the timing is off but I set it to the static on the distributor. What suggestions do you have. My next step is to completely rebuild the ignition wires. They are looking brittle.

Love the t-shirt!
I'm glad you like it! I'm thinking of making some more designs soon.
This video and the others on the xjs are so valuable as I work on my v12he thankyou very much

What year is the XJS?
Hi, does the 1990 XJS have the Itailian ignition system you mentioned? thanks, Doug
Yes it does
@@LivingWithAClassic OK, thank you for the responce.
Great work ! ;)
Thank you!
10°BTDC @500 rpm for preHE, correct?
zvoxjr Yes, he’s corrected it now. If you’re not sure, the timing is written on a sticker on the underneath of the bonnet.

Hello Abram. What do you set your timing at? thanks, Doug with a 1990 XJS.
@@dougvankalker733 As long as the chains are lined up and the distributor is set to the the default mark, the ecm will adjust the timing on the 1990
