I am with Landon Donovan. Talented and impact over a decade for the National team. Had great spells at Everton,so he showed it in Europe too. Demspey worked harder and stayed longer but Donovan was more complete. Even the fact that Dempsey has the same amount of goals (57) with 16 fewer games as Donovan for the USA BUT Landon has stunning 58!!!! Assists ☝🏻. Clint 21.
Dempsey for me, but Pulisic is better than both.
That last statement actually gave Dempsey the win. Dempsey even having that many assist as a striker is amazing. While Donovan played well on loan with Everton, Dempsey is still the better club player. Donovan’s legacy globally is with the national team while his accomplishments in the MLS, for a guy of his talent, was not impressive at all despite all the MLS Cup wins.
To be honest I don’t like to compare them because they are just different types of players. I was glad to have them both. But if somebody put a gun to my head, I would say Donovan, but I still just think they a different types of players.
@@nugget5103 they worked well together and that’s the reason both succeded in 10 years of national team play.And that‘s the beauty of soccer. You almost as good as your team and maybe you are the cherry on top to bring it home. 🤗
@@jayh3283 actually Dempsey played out wide the first years of his career. RM or LM. Later he went up top as a striker,when Donovan was moved back from attacking midfield or withdrawn striker. He played out wide than and Dempsey was the wirhdrawn striker.After Landons retirement he was the main man in the team. From a National team perspective Donovan has a advantage. When you stick with Club level,i am with Dempsey,even when I think Landon could have done much more. But beeing such a player in MLS for 14 season is a big thing too. Dempsey never had that MLS impact too. And the Sounders + Revolution in his years were damn good 🙈 it‘s nice to have a lot of opinions 🤗

Gonna have to disagree on the "best american player". That title belongs to the man you inherited the Captain America namesake from: Landon Donovan (period).
You're joking right? Donovan isn't even in the top 5 or maybe top 10 best Americans of all time. Donovan's record while playing for top leagues is dismal, his record against the best teams for the USA is dismal. He was merely a big fish in a small pond. ANYONE who understands the game knows this, even Donovan has said as much.

He's been playing better though. Didn't you see all the fouls he drew against Everton? This is a good sign. If anything he needs 20-30 lbs more muscle so he can break though those tackles without getting injured.
