My son Mike Jones just passed away this week from a 6 year battle with brain cancer. He loved ABR. Thank you to Matt Greiner for the love and support he has given us. Eternally grateful.
Jesse-John Witkowski never listened to melodic doom metal then XD but seriously though if you want feels look up swallow the sun the emerald forest and the blackbird (its about a father comforting his dying son and speaking about how he has wonderous things waiting in the afterlife and to not be afraid)
To those saying this song is about God: From an interview with Jake "Jake Luhrs: That lyric I wrote basically because I was thinking about losing someone close to you. In all reality, I was sitting in a cabin where I was for a week to get away and write, and it popped in my mind about Vigil (Jonathan) from The Ghost Inside; he recently lost his father, and I've toured with him in the past and I really like that guy, I think he really has a good heart and I love him...and when I heard that, it really did break my heart. But when I was writing about the loss of someone, I thought of him and I thought of Dustin our bassist, how he had lost his uncle and I believe he has lost his aunt too. The premise of the song is basically to take what you know about a person you love, and to carry them on in your life, and to use what they've taught you and to take their wisdom and knowledge and to share it with everyone else; carrying that person's name within you as you'd carry someone's legacy. So the one line "I'll write your name in the sand, where the waves can't wash it away" is essentially saying "I'll make an imprint for you in this world that's dedicated to you through what you taught me, and that won't ever go - that's permanent, that's forever". That's what that line meant to me."
Lost my mother to cancer in June 2015 This song is dedicated to her Read lyrics out at the end of her service.... It's as it was written for her..... \m/
I don't know what lose a mother feels like, but I think that is the worst experience in the world. I feel sorry for you, but "never surrender the dream she had for this world, to love, to forgive, to make something out of nothing"
My mom was diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks ago and I just kinda remembered about this song. I haven't really listened to ABR in a few years as my musical tastes have largely shifted away from heavy music, but coming at this song with fresh ears and a different perspective in life and this song really packs a punch now. It may be a long road to recovery but I'm still trying to come to grips with. I know Jake and the guys won't read the comment, but thanks anyway for the song and the catharsis.
My brother in law is days away from passing of cancer. I loved him as a brother despite our bloodlines. The words in this song, coupled with the anger, rage, sadness, and hope of the music, perfectly encapsulate the experience of losing someone. The ability of ABR to construct a masterpiece of expression, projecting a shared understanding of the experience, and vision of love and hope is truly a gift from God. I'm truly thankful for this band.
If you can't see the mastery of music in this album and meaning behind it, then that's your opinion. This music is definitely a master piece. I can feel music. I've never listened to music that has let me feel emotion like this. This band is definitely a band to remember and love.
One of the most beautiful songs of August Burns Red. Every time I hear that song it give me very deep feelings, sometimes I can find myself crying because of beauty of this song. Purely beauty.
2:25 One morning I'll wake up to you, One morning I'll hear the angels sing. On that morning we won't be worried about the weather Nor will we mind where the hands lay on the clock tower. AWESOME !!!!!!
Recently unexpectedly lost my mother . This song makes it all a little bit easier. One day we'll be reunited mom, I love you. RIP Deborah Merce 4/9/52-12/18/22
Losing my grandmother to COVID-19 last year, and following that my father too. This song breaks me, but it pushes me to be a better person for their sake. When I heard this song it will ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes ❤️ I fucking love you ABR.
Im a Christian (believes in creation and the bible) and I love this song, because it gives me this Godly chill down my spine.. well done ABR love you guys! shout out from Washington U.S
This is one of the most beautiful written and performed songs ever recorded. So much raw emotion and a beautiful story. Thank you abr for sharing this with the world.
I have an abr tattoo that goes from my wrist to my shoulder. The big burning U. It’s in the name of my mother. I’m not the religious type, she is, but she was my creator and the one that taught me all that was good and how to be kind and just... so much. I always thought this song would be the one that would carry be when she passed and how “I will carry the torch-“ because she did warm a lot of hearts and care for SO many. She was so selfless and full of love. She passed just a year ago on 4/3/21 just before OUR birthday we share on 11/3. It was after a long battle of cancer and other struggles. This song has now come into full effect (then). I hate it but.. I thank you guys for carrying me through so much and now this. You’re all absolute fucken beauties.

***** You should consider Buddhism. Its general beliefs and morals compare to yours. I don't follow it to the letter, as it is a very complex religion to follow and meditation can be somewhat wearisome if you are cynical about it, but like every religion, it takes a mind open to integration.
The end makes me want to cry. This song reminds me so much of Mosely: they are both dedicated to a friend who has passed on, and they both end in guitar licks that pulls at the heart. So great. Thank you ABR.
Just came back from my 7th ABR show and they played this song. I screamed at the top of my lungs these lyrics in the back of the room not worrying about what others thought of me. And at the end of the song Jake said "this one goes out to those who have lost a loved one" I then burst into tears. RIP Nana & Tata Tapia.
"I can't hear your voice, but that's okay, because I can feel you in my heart." That's one way of looking at it but we all know what some people would say, "that this is a monologue, not a dialogue. They may be right, "maybe." But where they are wrong is the fact that it isn't my voice they are hearing but God's voice. I am not dreaming, God is the dreamer and we are His dream."- CS Lewis Responsibility comes unto us friends.
that's a great way of thinking about it . I love the part man where he starts praying. it really is a beautiful great song. everybody should listen to it.
As some one struggling with addiction this song always helps me out . Even when I relapse and my friends and family tell me I'm doing the same toxic things. None of it helps me but this song and many others does. Idk. It's hard to explain
My father loved ABR, and this was a song we listened to often. he recently passed from a car accident and once I logged into his TH-cam, i noticed this was the song that was playing as everything happened. If often comes into my playlist and reminds me of him. This song is truly beautiful.

When I bought this album Tuesday, I spent the afternoon driving around listening to it. After headbanging furiously and screaming lyrics to the songs I already heard, this one came on and I just froze. I pulled over and began to cry, especially from 1:41 on. Death of loved ones is the biggest fear in life for a majority of us, myself included. But after the shock, the heartbreak, the denial and the sorrow, we will carry on. Such a powerful song and one of my favorites on this album.
For real. Pangaea could definitely be my favorite ABR song. The time signature changes throughout that song are so flawless. They take that riff about a minute in that starts in 5/4, and subtly change it to make it 3/4, even though without really analyzing it, it sounds like the same riff...completely brilliant. Amazing song all the way through. Rationalist is another pretty good one.
