That's ok Mike... if mine breaks I'll be just as sad... but not a SAD HAM.
That's a fine line to walk lol!
I have used fishing line for getting the wire through the ferrule. I used a piece of 20 pound braid fishing line. Looped it through the loop of the wire. Slide the ferrule over the two ends of the braid and use the braid to pull the wire through. Great video as always. Keep ‘em coming.
So that's what was wrong with it. Nice fix!
If the only break is that spot you noticed at the center of the loop, you may want to add a thimble. I don't think that you'll find commercial ones that size, but you may be able to fake one out of a small grommet.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy. 73 Joe
Love the T-Shirt!!!
I have got to get on hf. That looked really simple
Good stuff Mike!
Thanks man!
Thanks Mike. Hopefully I won’t have to do that. But in case I do, I now know how to do it.
Coax connector and wire joints take the most abuse in the field. I had a connector go intermittent on me while in the field.
That is why i take my soldering stuff with me and extra wire. nice cat toy ! hope he don't get to happy with yellow wire and go after the whole roll of yellow wire and string it all over when you are gone. years back my cat did that with my mom's yarn . all over the living room . what a tangled mess. LOL 73's
Your drama classes have paid off, kinda
Nice repair job! 73
Use your Tenntenna!
Nice!!!!
Hi Mike, what type of crimp and crimper are you using?
Thats what we call in the phone business a high joint. Wire is broke insulation isnt.
It can be a bear to find when your cable pair is over 50,000 feet long
Ah good to know. This was my first encounter with such a break. Fortunately it was in the first 18 or so feet lol. 50k? No thank you. You don't have any kind of TDR to find a short in your industry? That seems weird...
Hello Mike! Your videos are always fun and educational. Do many amateur radio operators like cats? I also have two cats! Just like your cat, he's playing with the antenna wire!

I have no idea what other people do but if you like animals, you're ok with me. Great to see you in here all the way from Japan though! Thanks for watching.
Hi Mike. Is there any difference between running the packtenna vertical vs a sloper ?
Not a lot, no. Your radiation pattern will change and the SWR will be a little different depending on the height of the transformer, but not enough to really matter.
That’s why I have a spare packtenna
I do too. Guess where it was?
@hamradiotube never leave home without it
Mike,
You are so full of BS you need a good laxative. That said tongue in cheek……. I had a good laugh with your intro. On one of my PackTennas the center conductor of the coax was not connected….. so broke from manufacture. A little heat from my soldering pencil and some extra solder it worked and has worked well since. Thanks for showing us that hams CAN FIX STUFF!
9:00 that's what she said
Sometimes you just gotta do it lol!!!
Couldn't help myself
@@ralphshepard1 I know. That's why we get along :)
