Pro-tip: 20, 15, and 10m are resonant multiples of 40m so you only need one link for the 17m band. Add a small loading coil near the feed point to bring in 15 and 10m. Order of operations: 1) Cut the 17m element a couple of feet long. 2) Wrap 10 or so turns of wire onto a .7" cylinder (plastic drip line works well, or other tubing) positioned 5 ft from the feed point. 3) Tune the 17m element. 4) Add a link and about 13m more wire, then trim to resonance on 40m. 20m, 15m, and 10m should be good as well. 🤘😁👍
@@The3DPrintingWarrant Hey welcome to the hobby!! Congratulations. But, yes, the good stuff sells out quick. Check out packtenna.groups.io/g/main for updates. George is very good about letting people know when stuff is coming.
Don’t sell yourself short! Jason is a a product reviewer and a TH-cam production artist/magician… You are a doer! You actually make and field test equipment, antennas and gear for real. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing your passion and inspiring your subscribers!
Awesome you do this for Jason, you and all the other Tubers have been my Elmer's for a while now. Even Jason needs a bit of antenna Elmer love from you Mike. :P
Mike I agree with you Jason really made you feel at home in Texas. I wish I had some great friends like you guys. Jason is a selfless person which is a huge reason I'm a big fan of his too. I found you first and loved you content, after you moved I started watching Jason. I have to get a reel of that sota beams wire to make this project I made 3 different endfed antennas up 17m, 20m, and a 40m. Those are my main bands. Thank you for being you there are lots of good people in this hobby. 73s Don
Great job Mike, very nice of you to help out that Jason noob antenna builder with the small youtube channel!😄 Awesome that you are using the proper metric system. 😁✌️
The imperial system is such garbage. I wish we used metric here. But for ham radio antennas, I've pretty much switched exclusively to metric. Just makes more sense.
I have enjoyed my end fed, as well as my linked dipole from PackTenna. George as well gives and is a great person. Mike my buddy, well done. Cheers Fred VE3FAL
Youve really inspired me with your love for antennas. Love jasons content too. Both of you have inspired me to get my license and im now going for my general license! Thanks for all the great content
Love your videos and I love your personality. You crack me up. Hollywood should notice you I’m sure they’d love to give you a shot on a bunch of TV commercials. I appreciate your knowledge in the field also I learn a lot from you
Hello Mike I use the same Sotabeams wire in Green on a 9:1 unun great cable and the results I got i still can’t believe great video keep them coming 73’s. Alex M7MEX
Mike - I like this multi purpose antenna, but what do you use to put the antenna up for 40M? Do you throw it in a tree, use inverted L, sloper, or ??? Can't imagine a mast that would get that sucker up vertical!
Ugh I'm all confused on lengths. So I have the EFHW from PT. It's cut for 20m. I'd like to extend it to 40m via your method...but all I want is 20 and 40. How long should the 40m plug-in section be (cut long obviously).
I lucked out and cut 10 meters of wire and it was perfect. Here's an older video I did on a 20/40 Packtenna th-cam.com/video/kkL3s3_6AWM/w-d-xo.html showing the total length.
That was a cool video watching you build modified the antenna and give it to Jason. That was awesome. I’m sure he’s going to get a lot of use out of the antenna. Hope you have a great weekend. WD5ENH Steve
Hi Mike, I found not to cut that tomuch lenth on end feds i give it a bit of a Z fond +/- 1m (you guy 3 ft) from 64 or 49-1 the grouds tend to change in places and it then give me some adjustment at the bottom near trans former, many thanks keep a going, 73, Pieter ZL1PDT
You can do this with any 49:1 EFHW. Though I had zero luck getting my QPR Guys No Tune EFHW to tune anywhere. Not sure what happened but apparently I screwed up the build.
Could I do this same thing (or something similar to it) except use the PackTenna Mini Random Wire 9:1 UNUN antenna instead? I've decided that I don't like dealing with a tuner so this antenna has just been collecting dust for months. I'd happily buy a Packtenna EFHW, but of course that isn't exactly an option now is it? Thanks for this awesome video!
I, and several others got screwed with the wrong size ferrules. Have 1,000 now and are useless to me (too small as the others here have also experienced), yet no correction. What's up with that?
Great video, but your skills at desoldering ... sucks. :D But seriously, why not make a 30 meters link just for good measure? I guess since you don't do a lot of digital, maybe I answered my own question.
I am the best solder sucker around, what are you talking about lol! You can make links for whatever bands you want, honestly. I've been thinking about needing a 12 meter link.
It's like photograph. It's Puh ho to graf. Or telephone. Its actually tel lep ho n. But seriously, every locale has its own weirdness. Look at the UK. They have the "ah" sound down. They say cant as "cont" etc but then for whatever the hell reason, they say taco with a hard a. What the hell.

They sell out as fast as they can get them in. Just a small side business but definitely worth the wait.

Way to ham it forward bud. Great video. I plan to do the mod to a few of my EFHW antennas.
Thanks Steve. I expect to see videos of your results.

Very cool and a nice way to use a endfed.

Very very nice Mike! I'm sure Jason will get plenty of use out of that. 73

Any chance you build and sell these? I am definitely more a computer guy than a solder guy.

The crimper can be found on my Amazon store www.amazon.com/shop/k8mrdradiostuff under powerpoles/wire stuff.

Jason, we had better see a few POTA activations with that antenna. Good on ya Mike.
I've actually done that already
Let's hope so.
What was the "solder sucker" you were using? I need to get one of those!!
This amzn.to/3ZeLj1k
Have you done pota using ft4.
Probably??
Mike, how different is the tune using it as a vertical as opposed to sloper?
It'll change the swr a little having the feedpoint right on the ground like I did, but you do what you gotta do.
HamRadio Brotherhood at its best....
Minute 1:40. 1st thing we need to do, is find a packtenna.
What would you charge to make one for me?

hahahahahahahahahaha

Total confusion. Completely lost me 7 minutes in. Just say what you're doing.
Love this channel , but why can't Mericans pronounce SOLDER correctly ? There is an L in solder , so it's NOT SODDER .,it's solder .

If you can say aluminum and the letter Z correctly we will start saying solder your way 😂
Got to love an efhw … portable they rock
They sure do!
