You can do another bedroom with the headlines that sea levels are rising twice as fast here than everywhere else with NZ going for the triple rise on the North Islands east coast. Meanwhile over 90% of Pacific Islands are maintaining land area or actually expanding. Rod Carr and Tim Flannery. Australasia's chicken littles.

  • @marcusnz232

    Unless the major polluters actually achieve it, nothing New Zealand does will make a blind bit of difference to the outcome and it is therefore pointless to deliberately impoverish and inconvenience ourselves in pursuit of something pointless.
    Of course, we should make long term decisions around power provision and so on to facilitate carbon neutral outcomes where sensible - and for me that means we need nuclear power - but we certainly should not make silly decisions that are neither practical or affordable.

    • @bkeepr4246
      @bkeepr4246 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And we shouldn't be trying to make a difference.
      We make our living off growing good grass. The more CO² the better the grass grows, the more efficiently grass grows- less dependent of the availability of water. Although of course, if the world was warming- which it isn't, the atmosphere would be carrying far more water and rain would be more abundant anyway.
      It's against our national interests to restrict CO² in the atmosphere.

    Who remembers Michael Cullen signing us up for Global warming/carbon reduction in around 1996? "We stand to get paid millions because of all the timber we produce. Later when we were a net emitter: "Well we're doing the right thing!" This whole AGW/climate change has been a crock of sh## from the outset. How can the same cause ( excess carbon ) produce two opposite effects: record heat and record cold???
    The maths and physics for a green transition don't work. You need more machines to dig more mines to get more stuff to make the EV batteries. Now are you going to run those mines on renewables or fossil fuels? Once you've made EV trucks to replace ICE vehicles the energy requirements are staggering, requiring upgraded transmission lines and power generation. You've also now got trucks sitting by idle whilst they charge.
    Apart from this mad attempt to replace our energy base, China and the rest of the East is industrializing on a grand scale and burning massive amounts of coal and oil in the process. Ergo, CO2 levels will continue to soar despite what we do. On the flip side there were still terrible weather events and starvation on a grand scale a century ago when CO2 was at a magic 300ppm. Lunacy from every angle.
