I just sat through your Octoprint video. Many people producing videos are not teachers. They don’t take the time to explain what they are about to do and why before going through steps on how to do it. You do. Great job. I spent 45 years in adult education. My first computer was an Apple II. I’ve been playing around with Raspberry Pi’s. I won’t buy a Canakit. I just went into my closet and pulled out two Raspberry Pi 4bs,, 2 power supplies and 2 Pi cameras.
3D printers are becoming my retirement hobby. Thank you for making this fun. My Voxelab Aquila just had its SD card reader die. You just showed me how to solve the problem. A Creality Ender V2 is on the way. I expect a week from now I’ll have both humming.. you just turned frustration into excitement. Thank you so much.

Found this video and was finally able to set up my Raspberry Pi 4B without any issues. Was very easy to follow especially because it was explained in a step by step process. Worked with several windows open so I could pause the video then switch to complete each step. Once completed continued on and it all works as explained and shown. Great job in creating the video (without the expansive technical language that not everyone understands) and for helping me out. I am using a Raspberry Pi camera connected with a ribbon cable to the camera connection right on the board. Can't wait to discover all of OctoPrint capabilities. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Irv. Perfect timing! Just updated my CR6SE to the community software v6 and the next thing on my list was to set up Octoprint on a RPi4. Follow the instructions and it worked perfectly. Only issue I had was that I had to try a second usb cable to connect to the Pi. Fortunately it did not blow up and worked! Only confusion I have is the naming of the Pi vs the Octoprint instance and the various user names and PW. It is working perfectly. Thanks for the very helpful instruction.

Just got around to getting this up and running this weekend. I set it up for my Prusa MK3 and it's so nice to just send files to Octoprint and be done with it. No more leaving my computer on because Pronterface is running, or messing around with the SD card. I'm loving Octoprint and it's actually the perfect usecase for an RPi.

I honestly don't need this guide at all but I stumbled on it while looking for something else. I skipped around a bit out of curiosity and I liked how you go into sometimes excessive detail for even minute things, like defining trivial stuff like what a plugin is. It's nice to see an exhaustive guide for people new to the hobby. I only got started about 6 months ago and I'm a pretty advanced user now, but I used to consider long-format videos on basic stuff like this an absolute godsend when I was still a beginner,

Hi. Thank you for your hard work and these videos. I'm fairly new to 3D printing, and found your channel and website in my search for information. Very good channel and much appreciated. I have had a Pi for some time now, and just getting around to setting it up. This video was very helpful, and I am now able to use the Pi. Only issue I am seeing is a power problem when using my Pi with my Creality CR6-SE. Power from the Pi is flowing thru my usb port and powering my screen even when the printer is off. (common issue I've read) I am also wondering if it might cause other issues as well. I've done the extra Kapton tape on my printer bed, (another CR6 issue) and have tried cutting power on usb cable but that does not allow the data to be transferred from Pi. I understand you can purchase a powerblocker, but I am in Canada and can only source from Ireland or the States and it will take some time to get the blockers. Is this a big issue, or will I be fine if I just make sure the Pi and the printer are both powered down when the printer is not in use?
Thank you again for your channel!

Thanks for the info, very well done and I had no difficulty following the instructions. Did this twice, at work I found the network so slow, at home the Pi installer took less than 2 minutes.
Great advice re setting up network settings, etc. during installation (to the SD card).
Question: Is there anything that I need to do to a new Ender 6 aside from the USB connection? Should the power pin on the USB be disabled so that the cable is data-only? (I'll update the vendor-supplied image and screen layouts according to Creality first, if this is recommended.)
Finally, I added the BLTouch devide to the Ender 6. Should I do both the BLTouch plug in on the printer and also on the PI? Or, could I rely on the Ender's bed levelling algorithm to do this task? Is the BLTouch plugin needed on the Pi for the Bed Visualizer on the Pi?

I love using Octoprint on my Pi, but I did add a touch screen to my Raspberry Pi running OctoScreen for when I am directly playing with the printer. It provides a nicer interface and a touch screen for the Ender5, but admittedly this is not necessary. Just a bit of an additional luxury.
Your notes on the Power Supply are really important. The Raspberry Pi, even the newest ones, are quite sensitive to power supply quality

A great video as usual.. easy on the ears for people getting started..
It may be worth mentioning though, that for people who doesn't have good and fast Internet (not everyone does) you are able to download the recent octoprint image and import the image into the 'pi imager software"
    Also a safety message..
Some printers try to draw power from USB and plugging in may make the printer display light dimly.
This is a dangerous situation that can harm your printer and in extreme circumstances destroy your USB bus, maybe even cause fire..
If you plug in your printer and it lights dimly, stop and look for the fix online - it's well documented.
I had this issue and simply cut a section of the red wire (v++) from the USB cable and wrapped it in electrical tape. No more issue and a safe working environment..

Hi Irv, with the vast majority of 3D printers you need to use USB isolators between your Pi and printer. Especially true if you use the ethernet connection on the Pi. Two reasons, one, a lot of the control boards pull voltage back through usb from the Pi, an isolator depending on type can limit current draw or stop this happening. Two, printer shorts or poor earthing, which is very common with the cheap printers. Voltage from 12v/24v/115v/220v can short to ground and track down the shield of the usb which will fry the Pi and peripherals and if connected by ethernet your whole house hold network. An example, this happened on Tripod's garage with a CR6SE recently.

HI, Irv, great video, I've been following it the whole way. The version of Octoprint I'm in doesn't have the "Request" button next to the API key, it says to get it from Octoprint. I went into Settings there and under API, it says it recommends generating individual application keys. I did that, labeled it "Cura," and pasted that key into Cura...but it says "Octoprint is not available" when I do that. Any suggestions?

When I use octoprint, it seems to disable the front panel touch screen, is that normal? Following this video , it was extremely easy to set up the raspberry pi

I am trying to add another raspberry pi running octoprint for another printer. Watching this video i assume that I either need to change the hostname or the username and password in the advance options of the Raspberry Pi imager before I write octoprint to the SD card. Is this correct? I cannot seem to get the Raspberry Pi to work after writing the image and trying to open the renamed host name.local. Any help would be appreciated!

(joking) I demand Dr.Vax back, this is too different to my liking.
For real though, I am glad that you are taking a step ahead with your channel, best of luck Doc. I am gonna confess, it is easier for me to watch your videos in x1.5, you sound just fine even at such higher speed. Otherwise, your videos are great for beginners!

i would add another suggested plugin to his great list and that's PrintTimeGenius plugin. It gives you much more accurate print time estimates for your prints. Also UI Customizer is great for visually displaying the tabs and columns, also dashboard gives you very nice gauges to display your temps, fan speed, etc.

Great video, very helpful in setting up Octoprint. However, one thing not addressed in anyone's Octoprint setup video is the fact that the Raspberry Pi uses a dynamic IP address by default. If you shut your Pi down and restart it later, there is an excellent chance the IP address will be changed and you'll (1) have to figure out what the new IP address is, and (2) modify your Cura printer profile so Cura can find the Octoprinter. Changing the Pi from a Dynamic to Static IP isn't particularly difficult but it can be a little intimidating to someone not used to editing Config files. Could you make a short video walking through the procedure to change the Pi to default to Static IP, both via Windows and Mac?
    Thanks.

i've been using mine headless (no screen, keyboard, mouse) and it works no problem. If your using yours via wifi just make sure you have a good strong signal where you put the pi and you should be fine.

Checked my network and there was no connection to my pi. I have since reinstalled the octopi object file and put my SSID and psk in the octopi-wpa-supplicant.I even change the router and used tp-link but still it's not working.can you please give me any suggestions what we can do next ?
