This was inspired by my second encounter with the nightmarish Gloom Hands, where I shot bomb arrows at it in a cave in a high place where they couldn't get me, then Phantom Ganon appeared, which send my brain to the forest temple in oot. I did manage to beat Phantom Ganon in totk, he's easier to deal with then the hands.
Sorry if the quality is lacking a bit, I was trying to get this done quickly.
Also, the outfit that Link is wearing in this is supposed to be the Hylian hood and trousers with the rubber armour (the exact name of it escapes me right now sorry)

The new guardian theme for giving PTSD.
So true! At least the guardians don't randomly spawn when you're peacefully exploring. I miss them haha
True, but this theme is more menacing and the guardian theme is very aggressive and high energy. To me, the guardian theme causes much more anxiety.
Considering you can cause anxiety with one note thanks to the guardians..
And just like the Guardian Stalkers, there’s usually little to be gained from fighting a Gloom Spawn.

I'd just avoid them at all costs. I wouldn't even be surprised if they could catch arrows in bullet time because ganondorf can flurry rush your flurry rush.

This perfectly describes the feeling for this shrine. Idk why but the gloom didnt spawn for me until AFTER I did the shrine; and I was so confused as to why it was a reward shrine and not a puzzle one until I got out ToT
the same thing happened to me!! and ill admit i already saw the gloom hands happen to one of my friends so i teleported away… 😅
Most shrines I’ve seen are rauru’s blessing. I personally liked the troll one titled “unlit blessing”. Could’ve been complete with content by having puzzles and fun mechanics in them. Nintendo, if you are reading this, maybe in the master mode DLC should make these shrines have puzzles in them.
Dude same. I was watching a video on all the shrines and they were like 'watch out for the gloom hands' when I got done with the shrine. I immediately became scared and tried to figure out a next move to get the bauble XD
I saw the room with this shrine and I was like "Huh, usually the rooms that have this setup have had either a Talus or a Stalnox in it, but I don't see either." I kinda shrugged it off, went and killed the Bulbulfrog, then headed back toward the shrine while looking around the room a bit more. I then saw a dark spot on the ground start to tail me and I was like "I knew it. I knew this room had some boss in it." as I went to attack it.
I seen enough videos of gloom hands to know why it was so “blank” in there. I just ran like hell and then when I was done with the shrine, that’s when I fought them.
Went to attack it? Either you didn't know, or were very confident. Or crazy.
@@nickschumacher4309 I was fairly confident with fighting them by that point. I had killed at least 3, if I recall correctly and they weren't as hard as they looked.
I walked into that cave on May 12th, fresh off the Great Sky Island with 4 hearts, like 5 bomb flowers and complete innocence. Barely managed to defeat the hands, with many, many deaths. Noped right the fuck out of there the second that health bar appeared😂 turns out Phantom Ganon is actually quite the pushover lol
Gloom Hands in general are a pushover, same as Guardians.
But again, just like Guardians, if they catch you unaware, it's freaky.
Same, I ran so fast when I saw the second phase the first time
i just shit myself and run every time i hear the music change, even with like 10 hearts and a good supply of bomb flowers
In truth, we could always fight the game naked, with sticks, and no flurry rushes, if we really want a challenge. It gets so much easier with higher monster fuses and upgraded armor.

Pretty good except for 1 detail: Gloom Spawn spawns BEFORE you get to the shrine. In this situation you just run inside. Safe.
For me, I didn't notice the gloom spawn until I had climbed up to the shrine and activated it. I was just observing it from above and I decided draw my bow, which the noise of the bow made them notice me. I think the gloom spawn are pretty cool in a creepy way, very well designed enemy.

You can skirt around their activation area. I don't remember if I did that or not, but soon after exiting the shrine I was seeking high ground again.
It's crazy that this encounter was memorable enough for me to know the exact cave just from the little shown in the backgrounds. Great video!

I'm starting to realize that one cave under lindor's brow is where MANY people have encountered their first gloom hands xD
my story is quite similar - fresh off of Great Sky Island, 4 hearts and a lot of confidence, spite and curiosity. Walked into the cave, realized the hands are there only after hearing the screams, didn't even make it to the column.
Second time - mad dash to the column, equip my best bow and spam bomb arrows from above where I'm untouchable and therefore invincible. Sweet, sweet relief.
then I see a miniboss health bar appearing and think *what the fuck do you mean PHANTOM GANON* before I get kicked off the ledge and
killed in one shot.
marked that cave with skull (which usually for me means "miniboss dead" but in this case meant "DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DIE") and didn't return there until I've cleared the one under Great Deku Tree. good stuff.

Right!? Me too. Depleted all my bomb flowers, and then the health bar appeared.... I noped out of there so hard
This was also my first gloom hands encounter. But after i did the shrine i went down for mining. Suddenly the music started and i saw a puddle of gloom coming towards me before the hands popped up. I was panicking, trying to ascend to no avail and they almost snatched me while i climbed back up the cliff. Soooo that was one hell of a ride for me

That was my first encounter with it too
Scared the crap outta me but since you're so high up it's actually really easy to fight it there
I kept running into it in places like that and taking zero damage, until one day I had an encounter in the open air. In a mostly flat place. While it was raining. I couldn't climb the maybe two pieces of tall cover nearby and just kept getting grabbed over and over again
I always hear people talk about seeing it there, but I don't even know what cave it is. First time I saw one was in the Akkala Citadel ruins

First for me was between Mount Lanayru and the Great bridge.
That cave. my first encounter with it was when I got the frog and then that thing spawned while I was gliding to the shrine. Gave me a heart attack

The first time I met a gloom spawn I just about had a heart attack, honestly even worse than gardians since the music is just so much creepier, not to mention the fact that the entire atmosphere changes to a blood moon when these sh*** show up
I was on a ledge and just started chucking bombs
Haven’t played TotK myself but have watched my mom play it a fair amount and this is EXACTLY what happened the first time she encountered these creepy suckers 😂 Love this animatic so much 💜
I encountered this shrine on day one with four hearts… I RAN as sneakily and quiet as I could away- it was TERRIFYING

That is exactly how my first encounter with Phantom Ganon went. I found a shrine in cave, and noticed the animated Gloom. Decided to just use bomb flowers at a high point and was ready to collect the dark clumps. You can imagine my surprise to see Phantom Ganon’s name appear after that
The first time I encountered gloom hands was in the castle docks. This was in the first or second hour of gameplay, so I thought gloom straight up erased a heart, so it made them much scarier.
This is *exactly* what happened when I went to this cave... first time I encountered Phantom Ganon too.
I love to read people's experiences with this iconic mini boss, it was so memorable to everyone.
I'll never forget my first encounter heading towards Zora's domain. Everything was so peaceful and I was just saying how beautiful the light effects are in this game as we heard the music change from a soft wind chime to panic inducing notes while _the entire sky turned red_ . I was so overwhelmed already that when the gloom spawns came gurgling at me all I could do is run in panic and never go back to that spot 😂
My first experiance was just after i had landed on the surface. i thought for a moment it was a freaking blood moon then i turn around an witnessed this eldritch abomonation sprinting toward me. my reactions was "Hell nah, to nah nah nah! helll to the nah!" I ran away in blind panic going nope, nope, nope, NOPE! after a bit of running around like a chicken with it's head cut off I remembered I could teleport and did so. i also avoided that spot and never went back.
Bro this is so underrated! And the composition is spot on for me- I got he reward, wondered why and then OH SHIT RUN

I know this exact cave because I had my first encounter here lol. It was absolutely terrifying, and also when I knew the game was gonna be good.
This is so good. The fear is his eyes. So relatable! 😂❤ I had my first encounter with them in the same cave. But they spawned when I was innocently collecting shrooms on the walls and walked over towards the shrine. I stared catiously at their gloopy dormant form for a second, until they noticed me and shrieked and chased me, and I had to make a mad dash back to the wall I came from. Tried to defeat them with bomb arrows, failed by blowing myself up because I shot too close to the edge, and marked the cave with a skull to come back to it when I was stronger, or had more bombs or patience. 😂
The fact that I know which shrine this is probably meant to be is funny, the fact that the first time I ever saw the gloom hands was at this shrine was terrifying.
The first time I encountered gloom hand, I thought the blood moon was happening and I shrugged it off until I looked behind me and they grabbed me and killed me.
I was playing with my little sisters and we encountered the gloom hands near Lookout Landing. This was within my first few sessions of the game and we all started SCREAMING as I ran for my life. Our reactions now are much the same. He scariest thing I’ve ever encountered in a game.
Wait a second, it actually looks like your first encounter happened in the exact same place as mine! Except I was a coward and just ran into the shrine instead of fighting.

Ironically this is exactly the same shrine and same cave I learned about phantom Ganon and I just *noped* myself out of there.
I touched the shrine and left did not come back to that place I teleported away far far away

My EXACT first experience with gloom hands lol
I saw this and out loud said “oh cool. Someone animated trauma”
Yup. This was the first Gloom Hands I ran into, dealt with it the same way, and when Phantom Ganon popped up I ran out of the cave.
My very first encounter with a Gloom Hands was made even worse by the fact that it was the one just outside the trek into the Depths underneath Korok Forest, so what ended up happening was the gloom hands appearing out of nowhere and yeeting my ass into a pit full of even more gloom. As soon as I landed I just noped out of there and didn't even dare touch the depths until I got Mineru.
I hate how I wore that same very specific outfit combination in almost my entire playthrough as well. It just looks so much better without the rubber pants.
this was the same gloom hands that i had my first encounter with and i bombed the heck out of them with bomb arrows and felt safe... then phantom ganon spawned and i ran into the shrine.

This is literally how it went down for me too😂 This was my first encounter, so I was telling my family about it and how I was afraid to go in caves now if that’s what’s waiting in them before they informed me they’re not just in the caves😅
I will never forget the sheer terror that shot through my soul on my first encounter with this god-forsaken monstrosity.
I literally sat there for a half an hour before I went through the ceiling.

This was my first encounter with Gloom Hands too, except they showed up after the shrine. I just ran away from them for a while after Phantom Ganon one-shot me.

Ran out of bomb arrows and they kept restoring health, decided to test my luck in close quarters fight (had no idea what they were) died horribly, respawned tried desperately to escape and I managed to escape barely

WHY IS THIS SO ACCURATE?!
Phantom Gannon or the Gloom Hands themselves needed to be harder and the music needed to play earlier, to get that real trauma response we all picked up from Guardians in Breath of the Wild. they simply didn't have the same impact.
Pro tip: take a picture of Phantom Ganon after defeating the hands and look for Phantom Ganon with your Sheikah Sensor. It'll warn you when you approach one of the Gloom Spawn's locations 👍

I remember that shrine, first time I saw a Gloom-Hands, never beat it, kept blowing myself up.
This was my exact experience. I encountered them and assumed they were floor masters. I bombed them from a higher platform. I killed them and then saw that health bar appear and was like, “Excuse me?! Who now?!!!!!!” I tried to fight him and was one shot. After my fairy saved me I warped away.
My first encounter with the hands was on Mt. Lanayru. I was going after the towers. All of a sudden the sky gets dark and I'm staring at a mass of hands like: What the hell...?
I ended up repeating those last three words quite a few times before I died.

These were the first gloomies I found, was looting the cave, ended up dying trying to climb the big rock in the center.
My first encounter was an the great plateau as i tried to help this lady from the stable. I did the shrine as a little bonus and suddenly, a puddle of gloom appeared. I was confused, then completely terrified and died. Naturally, a respawned right on that spot where i triggered the hands so i ran and jumped off the cliff
This is why I love, flash bombs I go think fast chuckle nuts and then proceed to spam bomb flowers

this cave was where I encountered my first gloom hands, but instead of doing the smart thing (shooting it with bomb arrows) I tried to run away and it got me ;-;

the other day I encountered it 4 times in a time span of 2 hours. people says it spawns from gloom around the place and it's an ambush enemy but there wasn't gloom in the last 2 places I went. I'm pretty convinced that it was following me on purpose at this point.

The first time I did actually beat them I set down my controller relieved I beat them.
And then the phantom ganon health bar showed up and I scrambled to grab my controller, just barely managing to get out of the way of his first attack

Or better yet, a decayed guardian getting possessed by the gloom hands. So like it has the main body of a guardian, but its legs are gloom hands. That'd be cool actually haha.
I genuinely screamed when I first encountered this thing, but I had a Great Eagle Bow and 20+ bombs.
Now, my motto whenever I find this thing is: "keep calm, and nuke from orbit."
