I feel the sentiment with most users here that I shouldn't trust Raya with the puppies yet. The reason I am trying to get her close to the puppies is to get her familiarize with them and trying to improve the situation, I am always in very close proximity, practically on the bed itself hovering my hands over them. She is not allowed to be alone with them in the same room unsupervised. I am always watchin her moves and how she behaves. Most of the time she is sleeping away from them, practically all the time!...you guys see only snippets of our daily lives. I appreciate your concern as so do we have the wellbeing of everyone in our household at heart. What I don't appreciate are nasty comments & absurd accusations or 'i never liked Raya' 'hit her' etc.. this are just harmful comments that leads to unfortunate bans

@@strawberryherpes528 Although I agree with some of your points, Like he said, you've only seen snippets and videos of them, you have no idea what's going on and how they're handling it off screen, so you have no right to tell them how to discipline their dog. Both Raya and Suki are disciplined when their in the wrong, because sometimes Suki will try to fight with Raya when she's not even near the puppies, and we've seen that before. At the end of the day those are his dogs, and he will deal with them accordingly.

They can't even walk properly on their own yet.
At this age, they should only know the scent of their mother rather that to confuse them with the scent of other dogs that could even harm them.

In my opinion, the owners should let nature run its course and stop pushing Raya closer to the pups in hopes that there will be a good outcome at this point. Instead, Suki should be the one to decide when it is safe for Raya to be near her pups, just like how Suki allowed Shiro/Kiki to be near them as she rightfully decided that they were of no harm. If Suki doesn't allow Raya to be near the pups at present then there is very good reasons for this.

The actions of Raya today were detected by Suki's motherly instincts right from the start. I'm wondering if Raya is jealous of Suki's attention for her puppies. Moreover, the puppies appeared to be scared, as I had never seen them move around as if they were trying to flee. I could be mistaken, of course, but these puppies did not appear to be fond of Raya's interactions with them.
I don't think suki detected those actions, or that raya is jealous of suki's attention at all. it might be that raya doesn't want to be displaced in the pack, especially if she sees herself as the young one, and it might be that raya is bossing around the new additions on the bottom of the totem pole, like she was bossed around. "the bullied become the bullies" syndrome.

WTH are you talking about? The puppies were trying to sniff Raya and seemed surprisingly interested in her. And about Suki's 'motherly instincts', her hostility towards Raya most likely is what causes Raya to be so wary and nervous around the puppies in the first place, she is starting to associate them with danger due to Suki's behavior. Remember Raya's reaction to the third puppy that died after birth, how she kept licking it to try to wake it up? She obviously wasn't showing any signs of outwards hostility then.
Suki's 'motherly instincts' are not the result of Raya not liking the puppies, they are the cause of Raya not liking the puppies.
I will be unsubscribing and I suggest we all do until the humans take this more serious than being personally hurt by comments and commenters who mostly mean the best in our warnings...

Oliver, I think you are trying to force your viewers to react a certain way just as you are trying to force Suki & Raya to react a certain way. The vast majority of viewers feel there is something wrong just as the dogs do. Suki & Raya are CANINES, not just Shiba Inus. When one of my small breed dogs had puppies the other non-subservient female displayed MUCH different behavior; she was desperate to be a mom herself & followed the actual mother around like a supplicant; she cleaned the puppies & protected them vigorously; she tried desperately to nurse them, & she ALWAYS respected the mother's defensive behavior. We are seeing the exact opposite of that here.
Please trust a mother's instincts. Suki knows who's safe for the potats to be around and who isn't.

@@CarlosTheRaven When I made the statement, I'm not assuming to know more, or because I think Raya is hostile (she's such a sweetie). I believe Suki has her reasons to be wary. Perhaps she just wants to keep her potats away until they're strong enough to dodge/withstand Raya's hyperactive tendencies, especially when she's excited. Who knows? 🤗

Animal instincts aren't meant to be logical, they're more often than not exaggerated and incorrect. Cut that bullshit of "trust a mother's instincts" this is Raya's house as much as Suki's, Raya did nothing to the puppies, Suki needs to know that she is no danger.
@@Macaulyn_97 Perhaps u should read a little more to understand why animals have evolved to develop instincts to help them to survive. Suki's behavior is completely normal and expected for a mama dog with young puppies. She's programed that way by nature to protect her pups against whoever she sees as a potential threat to them (blame the hormones!). She will relax a little as the potats gain more independence.
I don't think her aggression is directed only at Raya per se, she may react the same way to Shiro if he stepped too close. At this stage it is Raya who should be taught to respect boundaries to avoid unnecessary confrontations.
Also, I do have to agree with some of the comments about going behind suki back. I would think raya leaving her scent on the puppies while suki is out would cause more distrust from suki?
I think your making a mistake Oliver, most people see this, Raya does not need to be so close to them babies. I realise you believe what your doin is right but Suki protects them babies with her life and you are putting them at risk now. A mother knows best

I think rather than letting raya close to pup we should wait for sukis approval. If a mother wanted to let someone who she's been living with for a while she would've done so. Seeing how suki isn't letting raya close shows suki knows something we can't understand. Suki has experience with shiro i think we should listen to her

These babies can't defend themselves...they can't run, they are just learning to walk....stop this, she's biting at them!! Why do you insist on these interactions?? Momma doesnt like Raya around them, one day there will be a serious fight and momma will go all out to defend her babies and you'll yell at HER while this one snaps at her babies. Raya's behavior is her prey drive kicking in, she's basically waiting till one of the potats decides to move so she can chase it. She 100% cant be trusted around them, i can see why Suki is so protective now. I would not let her interact with the pups without Suki there because she will notice any danger before you do.
She was rubbing her face and neck on them too, dogs have scent glands there so she was marking them. Not only does she have prey drive around them, but she’s also marked and claimed them as her own possessions

Kenji is clearly not comfortable with Raya's behaviour and instintively knows to get away from her. Oliver I adore Raya and know how much you love her but it's not necessary for Raya to be near the puppies. She'll have her own one day and figure it out then.
At 2:50 it looked like the Azami was trying to protect Kenji, after Raya did 2:38 to Kenji 😔clearly the potats are uncomfortable. Your viewers have been advising you about Raya and yet you still introduce Raya to the potats behind Suki's back. They are way too young.

You need to train Raya better. You yell at suki for protecting her puppies but never take strong action with raya when she gets too close to the puppies or when she is being dominating and trying to nibble on them. It’s too dangerous, you can’t take this risk. Trust Suki instincts. She knows better.
Agreed, Suki is just protecting her babies and he yells at her and smacks her? But when Raya clearly snapped at the back of Kenji’s neck and he yelped from fear, all he does is say “no” softly? He should have reversed those reactions. Raya needs to learn: bite the baby and you get smacked. Raya is getting out of control at this point. She even marked them with her scent by rubbing her face and neck on them. She marked them as her own possessions by doing that.
there's a very tense energy throughout the video ... don't know what's the rush here to familiarise them, if it was me I would go with the mother's instinct as this could suddenly & terribly go wrong.
Watched this channel since litter 2 and i do find her behaviour more hostile. Having her around the puppies when they are this small is uncomfortable to watch

I've read your pinned post. Your right your channel receives a lot of disrespectful and hurtful comments. I mean this with all due respect. Raya is not safe around those babies. She put her teeth on them more than once. She needs to be removed from them if she is doing that. If she keeps doing it, I would suggest putting a muzzle on her. She is not being sweet or innocent. She has predatory behavior towards the babies. She isn't and evil dog, she is instinctually acting out towards them as if they are prey or toys. Please listen, and get help. Get professional help. Hubris was my downfall when my dogs started fighting. Don't let it be yours please or a baby could die.
Tracey Rossmann A muzzle is actually a pretty good alternative for her. It's not because she's evil, as you said, but because she is in full predator mode when Suki is gone. She doesn't do any of this when Suki is there.
@@Kimberly-dn4mc I don't believe any animal is evil. Dogs can be very driven by instinct. I use a muzzle a lot. My two dogs started fighting much the same as Suki and Raya. Now they have to live separately and the three of us all have scars. I only wish to prevent that for them and prevent a puppy from dying. Dogs can move so fast and before you know a puppy could be in her mouth and without knowing how to stop that I doubt he could rescue said puppy before it dies do to Raya being in predator mode. There is a way to stop it but he won't listen to help 😞. I'll unsub and save my own mental health
She is displaying her predator stance again! She gets that fixated look on her face, freezes, then starts to bite at them. She bit (played with them🙄) at them several times. The puppies even seem uneasy. They sense Raya's energy just like Suki does. Trust me, if she grabs one, you're not going to be fast enough to stop her.

The nibbles are typical & normal behavior for a Shiba, but you'd have to own one to know & recognize that.
She didn't try to bite Kenji either. She was attempting to carry him, not strangle him.
If Raya wanted to attack, she wouldn't be familiarizing herself with them & observing, she would sink her teeth right into them.
She is showing love & interest, & not showing any signs of attack.
Raya just displayed that she too is a nurturer, & has strong maternal instincts as well.
The potats seem to like her, while knowing she is not their mother.
All while Oliver offered positive reinforcement.
Raya is no threat to these potats.
I don't think she wants to bite. She clearly knows she will be thrown out if she does any stupid atleast she is that intelligent enough. All she got is lil bit hyper side that is why she is just appearing to analyse those puppies thoroughly. As she was never exposed to so many dogs in dog park etc she is finding everything strange. Trust me if she wants to eat or bite or harm she would've done in a second. Like in a fraction of second but she knows aftermath. She kinda got scared too when human yelled on suki. So she knew puppies are priority. She just has this some strange, staring, frozen unharm look. Thats it.

Dear Oliver ,Raya's behaviour is concerning,if you observe she doesn't lick like Suki did with Kiki,she instead just sniffs and at one point tried to get hold of Kenji by the neck.Sharko bites by her are not ok.Negative enforcer by you can be a pat on her head with a stern voice if she tries to nibble at the pups.The pups feel vulnerable too.I love both Raya and Suki but it's Sukis last litter and God forbid if they are ok.Raya doesn't listen to your commands,that's a fact .Maybe if they are enforced by a stern voice instead of a voice of love it will be ok.
I noticed Raya was rubbing her face and neck on the pups...Dogs have scent glands in their faces, so when your dog rubs its head on you or pups it might actually be an attempt to mark you with its scent. This kind of territorial marking serves as a signal to other dogs to steer clear...Bottom line is Raya is sending a message to Suki watch what happens next...Hooman's: "Suki nooooo"

Letting Raye stand over the pups, act so strange and when she appeared to almost nibble one is not teaching her to properly interact with the pups! She should be in front of them saying hello. Suki probably smells her scent on them when she gets back. This has to get better.

Nibbling pups is normal, it's part of allogrooming and it's reassuring to see that it was tentative and then she stopped and licked. She's half pup half adult and still figuring out what's going on and how to interact.

not a chance suki anywhere near, especially not with that little snap at 2:39 All in all this is better, but still not ideal. With suki gone for a walk, she's free to explore and investigate the pups, which is good for her to get exposed to them, but i'd have a friend help with this. I'd keep raya on a leash and the friend would handle the pups. that way if something went wrong one could focus on calming raya and the other could quickly scoop the pups up to safety.

Instead of creating risky situations like this and then being transparent abt it as you said, isn’t it better to let things shape up naturally ? like suki slowly warming up to raya’s presence around her pups like she did with Shiro and Kiki.

At one point I was getting a bit worried looking at the facial expression of Raya. Knowing that Raya is not fully accepted as part of the pack, some of the canine instincts take over.
That s a bit worrying that raya is not leaving any space for the puppy. Always staying above and in contact. I don't get why you want to force interactions between them. The puppies look like they want to run away from her. Shiro never displayed such behavior toward them.
You are exactly right too. They ere indeed trying to move away from her, in which they would never do that with their own mother. Plus instead of licking/kissing those puppies, see how she how tried to use her teeth on them or something. If anything bad happens, it will definite be the human’s fault.

Being an animal lover, one does get attached even if they are a virtual presence. This was a very uncomfortable watch. I hope Suki doesn't retaliate on finding Raya's scent on the pups. Raya was too rough with the Kiki that's why she is no longer around when rayas there.

I’m glad Raya’s getting more comfortable around the potats. But I think she’s being too rough with them. You could see that both Kenji and Asami were uncomfortable and scared at times with Raya right in their personal bubble 😢 I think you might be rushing the process and that the potats are still too young to be roughhousing with Raya. She doesn’t seem to be good with understanding boundaries.

I was scared the entire time watching this. The puppies are so fragile and innocent and Raya is too energetic. You obviously know better since you're with them 24*7 but give them their own time to become friends.

Licking lips can mean many things in a dog. It can be relief of anxiety, it can be a sign of appeasement, it can be stress. If anything its a reasonably positive. The dog is experiencing a level of stress (not always a bad thing) and using a method to relieve it. It doesn't seem to progress to much more reaction.
IMO, Raya should be kept elsewhere until the pups are rehomed. Nobody loses. Raya will develop her motherly behaviour when she gives birth. For now, please keep Suki and her pups in peace.
This is a good idea, however I trust Oliver for his work, every family has their way to solving problem and I believe Oliver can do it.

Raya has conflicting behaviour - with Suki, Shiro and the humans she acts like a baby and tries to draw attention towards her for cuddles and play with a toy in her mouth. Her ears are down, eyes half closed, which shows submissiveness. However, her temperament changes completely when she is with someone less stronger than her like Kiki and the pups. Her eyes reflect an aggression, and the way she is circling round the pups is not a friendly gesture and she never nibbles at anyone but the pups and Kiki. Her body language is also stiff, which does not give a good feeling about her.
I agree with most of the comments here, she should be rehomed till the pups grow up and find their forever homes.

I don't mean any offence and I know you absolutely do your best for all your potats, large and small. However I felt very nervous watching this video because Raya seems to be acting in a very dominant way towards the pups. She hovers over them and looks down at them as if she is ready to strike at any moment. I'm sure you're fully aware of this but it only takes a couple of seconds for you to look away and Raya could bite them in a heartbeat. Please, please, don't be offended. I just get so worried watching them and thinking what could happen. I think Suki knows best in this situation and her instincts regarding Raya are accurate. Who are we to question that instinct? Mea Culpa No, not only you. She did seem to go after the male again and again, biting at him. She also kept poking her nose into his back at the base of his tail to get him moving. He has the 'louder,' more outgoing personality. I think she was trying to dominate him.
They activate her prey drive. Especially the male because he was moving around and squeaking. Once they get bigger and start to run around this will get worse. She will start to chase them like they’re squirrels. And we’ve already seen what she did to Kiki when her prey drive takes over

When suki comes back she will smell the puppies and know that Raya was near them so with her knowing that she can tell that Raya wasn't being kept away and probably can tell that Oliver is the one who allowed Raya near the pups without her permission

You may say "Raya would never do that", but when you're up against dog impulses...you can never be 100% sure. Better safe than sorty until puppues are older, this video gave me the chills!😨😰
Raya is not unsupervised. Oliver is literally watching her like a hawk, ready to intervene - and except for one instance where Raya growled (which is entirely normal considering her age; she's in a teen phase in dogs terms) - she's VERY receptive of his authority, immediately she moved aside when he told her to. The greatest danger for pups are *unsupervised* females who aren't familiar with them; it's why getting her to know them, cautiously and with overseeing, is the safest course of action. look at the video and you'll see she was trying to sniff their tail area (literally how dogs get to know each other, through glands situated under the tail) so she's starting to grasp that they "may be" dogs too, just very different from any other dog she's met before. Give it time, and trust that Oliver has the situation fully in hand and is doing everything in his dogs BEST interest.
Hoomans/Oliver, you’ve already lost 2000+ subscribers - I bet these are mostly those who have worried for Suki and her pups because of Raya. Anxious Suki is being scolded if she reacts to Raya’s presence or intrusions (some here call Suki a bully for following her instincts). Why do this to Suki & her pups (including what’s shown on this video)? Is it to please Raya fans who think she could do no wrong? You have thousands of viewers who also care very much about Suki’s & pups’s welfare, you know. Raya inspecting the pups this close in Suki’s absence is hard to watch - because it takes only a fraction of second for Raya to possibly attack the pups injuring them and/or even cause their demise. We’re on edge praying it wouldn’t happen, but why are you risking it?! Your reflex reaction won’t be as fast as Raya’s, if ever. Please have a bit of humility to listen to the advice & concerns of those who care about your other dogs/pets, not just Raya.

When suki is away from the potats like when she’s on a walk or something she trusts you with the pups hooman. She assumes they’re safe with you, and see what you are up to. Letting a visibly dominant, obsessive and totally unwilling to obey commands Raya all over the pups.
Agree they are your dogs and you can do the way you want but it’s not a clever decision to ignore the warning signals and simply go ahead with recording the risky proceedings.

Yes, raya can get away with anything, even with her harsh and dangerous ways with such delicate potats, especially kenji.
Yelling, shouting, smacks/slaps are reserved only for poor suki. Never understood why they always take suki for granted. At least now when she’s a nursing mom , her peace of mind and potats safety should be given priority.

As much as I like all your videos; I get very uncomfortable with Raya close to the pups at this stage. Reminds me of the same concerns when someone leaves their toddler around their 3-5 year old s without very close supervision & safe guards. Only takes a split second for unintentional accidents to happen. On a Positive note the Potats are looking more adorable by the day
Scary upon scary. Her scent is on the pupps and Suki will smell that. That is stressful for her in every way possible. This is just scary to watch. Can't take it.
