    Thanks for sharing. I seen some with flowered tips when I was down a month ago. It's definitely a lot of work by hand with tobacco. But I am sure it's rewarding in the end. I use to hoe Weeds out of corn fields when I worked on a farm. I wouldn't mind working on a farm again. I would just be a bit slower than I use to be but once I got back into a routine I could do it.

    Hello Chuck, thanks for the Great Video ! Has the amish man no help from his kids or family with this hard work ?

      He has 4 little girls who help a lot but not with field work. The neighborhood is pretty much all young farmers with young families.

    GSA, Also I am curious how big the average Amish farm is in Lancaster. I am sure many, many years ago they were much larger but if I recall reading that the Amish usually give so many acres to each of their children and so the farm sizes diminishes over the generations. Regards

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The average farm in Lancaster County would be 60-70 acres or thereabouts . That’s the size needed to support a family. In other parts of the country they may run bigger especially if the tillable land is less. I know some Amish with 250 acre farms but that includes tillable, pastures, and wood lots. Not many farms in L.C. Have large pastures or wood lots to speak of.

    Hi Chuck, is the Amish men never angry with you, when he has to work so long and hard, while his not swetting neighbor runs curious around him, askimg him nerving questions ? 🙂

    • @LancoAmish

      Angry with me? That’s impossible! We’ve been friends for 20 years. I don’t get angry when he needs a ride to get equipment repaired.

    I would like to know that after all of this HARD work and understanding that this is only a small part of these farms what is the typical gross income of an Amish / Mennonite farmer in Lancaster, Pa. ?

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My educated guess with 50 cows milking daily the yearly gross ranges from $125,000-250,000 per year depending on the price per hundredweight of milk. The actual income to live on after taxes,upkeep,daily operating expenses, mortgage payment… is far below that.

    What are they spray to keep the weeds down?

    • @LancoAmish
      @LancoAmish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually spray the field with glyphosate before planting. During the growing season no broadleaf herbicide can be used. What you see being sprayed in the video is a copper fungicide.

      I pronounce it correctly like they do it in the old country…you know where the original Lancaster is located. Please phonetically spell it…I’ve got 6 different ones so far from local viewers that say I pronounce it wrong. How is that possible?
