On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 11-20-20.
We're looking at a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL 2 Door Hardtop in Rangoon Red Paint. The car comes with the factory 390 CI “Z Code” V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Dennis Roxworthy. Dennis’s had this car since 2018. He shares his Friends from Volo called him and mentioned this clean 1964 Galaxie came in, and when he saw it, he knew it was the right car for him. This car has been restored and looks “showroom” new.
    ENJOY!

Agreed, and I also like the '63 fastback styling as well. My parents had bought a new Galaxie: '64 500XL, 390-4V, 300HP (no A/C), C6, but with a "Chantilly beige" exterior & slightly lighter shade in the interior. Always loved that car and it ran like a champ. I've been a Ford guy all my life but never knew about the 390HP option for the 390cid. I always thought the 330HP Police Interceptor was the top dog of 390's. Learn something every day.

    • @daleandrews3552
      @daleandrews3552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Revolution1117 I noted that too. I don't know EVERYTHING about these cars, but we had a '64 regular Galaxie 500 with the 390 4V. I could be wrong, but I believe that engine was rated at a flat 300 hp. I pretty much know that. When you were talking THREE NINETY HORSE power, that was NOT an option for the 390 c.i.. Maybe for the (also optional) 427. One encounters a FORD 427 SOHC so seldom, I don't know what the hp ratings for those were, but for a 427, 390 hp was a good place to start as a base option. As I recall, there were 3 hp options for that engine. One with a single 4 bbl. (around the 390 hp range) and the upper 2 options were the dual quad carburation. (I'll have to brush up on the engine options for Ford in '64.)

After a family vacation in a new 1962 Ford Falcon Club Wagon with its gutless six cylinder engine, Dad went out and traded it in on a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500xl with the four barrel 390 engine. Traveling south into the Smokey Mountains the Club Wagon could barely reach 20 Mph with five passengers and luggage in some uphill stretches. No matter what the terrain the Galaxie 500 XL flew down the highway. White exterior, black bucket seat interior. We kept it in the family for fifteen years.

What a beautiful Galaxie! It's always an honour and a treat Lou, when you share Mr. Roxworthy's collection.
All his cars are timepieces, and consistently mint. Even the ride height, no sagging springs on any of his cars. lol
The brochures and photography are just amazing, given color offset printing technology was still in it's early years.

This car is a great example of when the manufacturer did everything right in creating a car. The style was perfect, the trim was just right and the overall quality of the car would have made any person buying this model of car new extremely happy. The interior is very detailed with one of the best bucket seats designs I have ever seen. I am more of a GM person but the 64 Impala SS had nothing on the 64 Galaxie 500XL. Thanks to Dennis and Lou.

I've been a car lover as long as I can remember. The '64 was my favorite Ford Galaxie 500 XL of all time. The '62 was close. Our family had a '64 black Galaxie 500 (not XL) with the 390 Thunderbird optional engine like this one. Ours was a 4 dr. hardtop, and for a 4dr., was she pretty! A medium grey interior set it off nicely with all around tinted windows and A/C. It was for all intents and purposes, a factory car with the high performance 390, which made it all the more convenient for passing. I remember seeing my dad driving the car while I was on my bike at a stoplight, even back then I knew what the T-Bird badges with crossed checkered flags on the front rockers were all about. As a car lover, I was IN LOVE! We kept that car 4 years. I often wonder what happened it it. 🤔Two thumbs up for the owner of this car. 🤩

The '62 full-sized Ford has to be the most beautiful of that '59 to '64 series. I was a young boy, back then. When my dad used to drive us somewhere in his '56 Chevy sedan, I was always enchanted by the taillights of those '62 Ford Galaxys, each time one would end up in front of us.

Such a beauty of a car!!! The interior is sooo sweet!!! I love how the back seats have a sort of cowling from the tops that flow toward the back window making them look like bucket seats, very T-Birdish. The sound from that beauty is awesome and I love how the owner wasn't afraid to get on it!!! Dennis certainly has some very nice cars for sure!!!

Nice Galaxie‼️ Galaxie 500 had a front bench seat and column shifter. Galaxie 500XL had bucket seats, a console floor shifter and more trim....from my memory. Not sure when the LTD came out but from what I can remember it may have been 1965, my uncle from Indiana had one in honey gold paint with custom made fitted clear plastic seat covers. Cheers🍻🇨🇦🇺🇸🥂

Wow Dennis sure has just another great piece of automotive history here today. I liked this model year ford a lot It was a very cool design that year and that red color on it really makes it look more sporty. Just a neat unit from stem to stern and the trunk and treats were awesome. Neat options on this unit plus that ride along was so much fun. It sure was a power house and that engine sound was great. Just a neat video Lou and it was great to see Dennis again especially with his neat cars. Thanks Lou and Dennis for sharing!

Hi, Lou! Many Ford fans consider this to be the best looking big Ford of the Sixties. With that slantback styling (amazingly even on the convertibles!), those nice rounded rear fenders and that impressive interior, you could probably make the case for that opinion. And I think the good people of Burma (or Myanmar as they now call it) would find that Rangoon Red paint very much to their liking (although they have likewise renamed that city Yangon). It was also the last year we saw the traditional round taillights on the big Fords. (Falcons still had them until 1967.)
In a nutshell, I wouldn't expect anything less from any car the Volo Museum would sell, or any car that Dennis has! Thank you both for taking us along on this Total Performance ride!

Great video and great car. Dennis is always a joy to see and the knowlege he has for us some would say is useless but I do make a mental note with all of his little tid bits of obscure info about his cars. I for one enjoy it. :) this car is a beauty. Always liked the lines. So much red on this one but the brightwork breaks it up just right. The 390 was a great engine and this one sounds so good with the aftermarket mufflers. I saw the little smile on Dennis' face as he eased into it and made a little noise. I used to see that same grin on my friends face when he did the same in his 65 Galaxie 500 LTD 4 door with a 390 and glass packs. Also... Yes. You absolutely NEED to give these big girls room to slow down and stop. Many a close calls and blown stop signs back in my younger days. You do learn quickly that you start slowing down early. Thanks for sharing Lou. Take care.

    Wonderful car from Mr Roxworthy.
Only thing, from 0:04-00:8, the car is making a "skrit, skrit, skrit" sorta metal on metal noise, the exhaust being loud enough to distort it but not drown it out. Hopefully it's an audio quirk and not the car itself. Love that red paint!!

I have had a few friends with them. One of my dream cars was either a 1963.5 XL with a 406 tri-power or a 1964 XL with a 427. Never happened. Now I have moved on to Buicks, so it will never happen.

The 63 and 64 Galaxie XL's were my favorite years of the 60's. I really liked the way they did the seats in 64. Really flashy. I never knew about this 390 option. It would be great to know why Ford chose to have it added on at the dealership. Consoles and bucket seats are a real plus on these XL's. They are a real point of beauty and luxury in these and other cars of this era. When a car you are featuring has a console I wish you would spend more time showing the details of it.
