    Thanks for sharing! I was especially fascinated by how fruit can taste different based on what variety it was pollinated with. I hope more growers share their experiences with some great combinations of pollen and flowers!

    There were so many interesting topics discussed in this video including the life cycle of the monarch. Did they ever end up naming this chimera? I love seeing innovative ways to grow and propagate plants. I am very happy to have a Robles Red cutting that I just received in my new DF collection. Enjoyed the in depth discussion by Neva on the topic of pollen and its affect on fruit. Fascinating. Great video.

    I just recently viewed this fine video by Paul. It cannot be over-stated how excellent both Neva and Paul are contributing to the overall education of growing Dragon Fruit here in So California. Also, I have huge appreciation for Neva and Julio Robles for the work done on their Sugar Dragon hybrid! How Julio came up with this idea, that the two cuttings would hybridize, is beyond my comprehension and experience in propagation. Amazing and remarkable! I am of the opinion that this hybrid is now a new species... This topic is complicated but one day I hope to prove my theory, and of course it would be named something like Hylocereus robleii. Those that have seen my videos might think that Neva and I have very different approaches to growing DF. But I suspect that if roles were reversed and she were growing on my fields, with my varieties, and my access to materials, her ranch would look more like mine, and vice-versa... In other words, I believe we share much in common and have responded to learning this fruit mostly alike. But there are no two farmers that operate the same... our backgrounds are different. I must admit I likely have a bias toward textbook botany, but I have also experienced instructions from the books that don't align with my field experience--I encountered this propagating avocado. So, when Neva talks about her observations regarding pollen influencing fruit sugar. acidity, and flavor, I am BOTH skeptical and intrigued by her quality of experience as a grower... As it stands, to answer the question "What is the best approach to pollination of DF flowers?" I think one should be strongly influenced by this video... even with my differing science opinions! Again, thank you for ALL for your time and generous sharing...

      Thanks for watching and commenting. I believe they mentioned Mr. Wallace had books on grafting. I've learned a lot from Wallace Ranch and appreciate them sharing their experiences. It would be an honor to tour your farm and share your experiences some day. It will be interesting to see if others can replicate the graft or do something more innovative. I expect to see many failures but believe it is possible to replicate the graft. Tasting many Robles Red fruits and different pollen sources was very interesting. As a result, I have been taking Neva's advice to use fresh pollen from multiple "sweet" varieties that brix at 19% or greater instead of red fleshed varieties that brix at 16%-18%.

    I bought my first drain fruit drin a local lady growing an unknown white flesh. The center wasn't the sweetest part. It was sweet but, seemed to get sweeter closer to the flesh. No points for the flower dude. 😆 🤣

    what do you mean by trimming the nose cone? is there anything else i should look out for in cracking or do?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pulling off or cutting off the wilting flower after the fruit has set. Cut the water as the fruit turn color, too much water may and other factors, may cause the fruit to crack early.

    That was nice he let you tour, but that was rude of you to tear of the flower. Yes you can tear them off but when in someone else's farm, you shouldn't tamper with their fruit. 🙄
