There are no plugins on the board just normal digital EQ and dynamics.

I can confirm the SE v7 is awesome for live vocals. isolate it on earbuds during a show with other vocal mics as a comparison and you will know.

The KMS105 and DPA D’facto are great if you have the room for it too!

I highly recommend never tuning your vocals live

Most vocals in the studio and live are tuned these days. If you use a gentle retune speed you will never hear it. Your singer has to sing in key to begin with. Once you go tuned you’ll never go back. So much easier to hear when it’s in pitch!

@@thepowerplaceproduction while I see the need to use it sometimes in the studio. If your singer needs to use it on a live stage then they shouldn't be on a live stage. It's a crutch. You wouldn't use a live version (if it existed) of Beat Detective on your drummer. And not every note needs to be 100% correctly in pitch. Autotune was only invented 20 years ago and the live version less than 5, which means the greatest albums and the best lives shows in history was done without it. Humans are not robots, its the imperfections that make us that way. Autotune is a crutch.

I tend to agree with Derek in principle. However, I also understand why modern audio engineers, with all the the capabilities afforded them by digital processing, love to avail themselves of EVERYTHING available to them, all the time! All that processing just makes things "sound better", and no one wants to feel behind the curve, tech wise. Dave Grohl's "Sound City" documentary explores this dilemma pretty well; how do we retain the beautiful "imperfections" that make so much art admirable and UNIQUE, while also remaining forward thinking about our craft. That being said, I think modern engineers would do well to embrace "limitations", even if they are self imposed because they're working on a Digico board with access to digital emulations of every major audio processor EVER CREATED.

I think audiences/congregations also are “to blame” as they are expecting studio quality at live venues/churches. Modern digital tech now allows this to happen. Which is awesome by the way!
Auto tune plus many many other plugins now make that possible. I see this as a win for engineers and audiences alike. Who would have thought you could have an LA2A on multiple channels for example. Do you know how much that would have cost 30 years ago?!

I would LOVE it if someone made a beat detective that worked in real time!!!!! I’d use that every day!!!!! Anything that gets me to the finish line as fast as possible while helping the artist/client/worship leader sound like it’s their best day ever is what I’ll use!
