Remember that Princess Fukang was granted a divorce after numerous suicide attempts, only to be forced to remarry her abusive husband less than a year later. She suffered for the last SEVEN years of her short life. To quote: "she had not been given adequate food, clothing, or medical care. Her body and bedding was infested with lice and she had burn scars on her face from trying to light her own coals." Even a wife's life, even that of a princess, was treated so cheaply that there were no lasting consequences to her abusive husband and his equally abusive family.
Horrible….absolutely horrible. Crimes against women are just horrific. Poor girl, she shorten her life and wish for her father’s health and happiness, just for him to turn around and did this to her. Detestable!!!! Also it’s awful that when the royal family marries off their daughters, they’re forgotten and abandon. It’s only when they make a ruckus, do they pay any her any attention because they’re force to salvage the situation. Once it’s quiet down, then she’s forgotten, as demonstrated by the last remaining years of the princess life.
I wish everybody gets a good husband & live a happy life. Ameen.
Poor lady.
Sorry my ignorance, as I dont know the real story. Nor have I read about this in any history books, but ... judging only from what was said in this video, I got the impression that it was the princess who was the abuser at first. She looked down on her in-laws. She treated her husband very poorly because he wasn't handsome enough. She acted in improper ways, like drinking with eunuchs.
It seems like she did everything she could to get that divorce, at the same time diminishing her husband's prestige and name.
So when she had to return back to her husband, was it really shocking that she wasn't received with open arms, but made to suffer?
She made the bed and she had to lie in it.
@@Lina-lq7jm that doesn't excuse the princes behaviour, nor the princess's, but that doesn't make the princess an abuser, she was just spoilt. Besides she was just 9 years old, so children do mistreat people.
What a sad story. Although the princess was spoiled they didn't need to force her into a marriage. There are other ways of repaying his mother's family than allowing his daughter live an ignoble existence
very normal life1
She wasn’t even near “spoiled”. Even though she was abused by her husband, she asked her emperor cousin to make his children (with mistress) officers.
It's only "forcing into marriage" if you look at it through 21st century worl-view. In those times it was pretty common. Not only common, but constant.
The marriage was decided between parents and matchmakers. The couple didn't have a say. And it was normal.
THey grew up knowing that this will be how it went.
ANd the fact that the princess looked down on her husband and his parents in such a way, shows how spoiled she really was. How entitled.
@@dodo-eu6ox wtf.. I'm guessing she was abused into asking the emperor for that? Man at the beginning this Li Wei sounded so innocent.
@@PhoenixShin for Chinese women in old time, they are obligated to treat their husbands children as their own, even if she is the princess.
The husband began abusing her right after she married him
This is a good example of two wrong does not make a right. By trying to repay his birth mother of the sacrifices and injustice she went through, the emperor now sacrifices the life and happiness of his favorite daughter. Women were always the blunt of these injustice and have no control over their fate.
If it wasnt this marriage, it would have been some other. But either way, she would not have had a say in it.
Marriagged in those days were decided by parents and/or matchmakers, and the bride/groom had no say. THey were raised in that culture.
So in that context, the emperor was not doing anything wrong.
Especially considering that in that culture, loyalty and filial piety were one of the key elements of the society and how they lived. Personal pursuit of indulgencies were not considered as a good thing. So you do have to look at all the elements.
But it seems like people are just judging things by 21st century standards.
@@Lina-lq7jm I understand the customs during those period. As a parent, as a loving parent, wouldn't you try to choose the best choices for your children? Wouldn't you find a suitable choice? Wouldn't you consider the well being and happiness of your child? Instead of thinking of the well being of his child, he insist used his child's future as a payment for his birth mother. It didn't matter to him that the family was unsuitable or that the guy was butt ugly. That is where he went wrong.
@@redstarseed514 And how do you know that he didn't consider his child's happiness? Maybe he considered that a good match. It is something that we can only speculate after so many years. . And besides, because you say you understand the customs, you should then understand that happiness in marriage was never related to love, but in the similar background, and other things. People just thought differently. ANd the fact that she found her husband not handsome enough would have never been an issue to any political marriage, in China, or in any other country. Even kings themselves had to marry ugly brides if their union brought alliance, etc. Marriage was never about pleasure, but duty, alliances and the next generation.
@@Lina-lq7jm I agree to with Ikr some ppl munderstood the Chinese culture. It's quite different/difficult w other tradition why china and the Chinese culture sometimes misunderstood
For China, the media had turned it into a boogey man, with a narrative associated with it. Reading about China through the media is like looking at an evil looking shadow that does not resembles the object. A imagery to help illustrate the point is like Sam from Lord of the Rings able to scare an orc with his shadow while he possess the ring.
As for Chinese culture, is a combination of lack of effort and the human shortcut of lumping similar looking people together. There are certain stereotypes associated with East Asian pheonotypes that aren’t true for the whole set. But these get repeated over and over so people just assume it’s true. Those that actually put effort would see through it but there aren’t any incentive until recently that would promote active learning.
To be fair, Chinese cultures, while share some core characteristics, could be practice very differently. It’s like trying to lump all birds together into a category. There are many shared traits but is udderly useless when going into details such as what they eat, how do they behave, etc. Also, unlike birds with different species, Chinese people do mixed, so you get even more jumble of traits that can’t be neatly categorized. As such, it’s hard to talk about Chinese culture without a lot of asterisks.
Which is why Chinese culture and China is so misunderstood.
@@redstarseed514 Chinese people have been raised in a place where things are done a certain way. If you drop by someone’s house in China, it’s not an imposition and they will do everything they can to make you welcome. In Toronto, you may be seen as very impolite and you have probably interfered with the person’s plans for the day. You wait to be invited.
Understanding culture, whether it’s in Beijing or Toronto, means understanding the norms everyone was brought up with. “Culture shock” is a very real phenomenon where you go someplace else and find things are completely different.
I feel bad for the Eunuch that loved her. Powerless to do anything but watch as she's slowly tortured to death by a bunch of sadists. No wonder he "unalived" himself.
I felt like they should have fled together at least that’s more logical than Romeo and Juliet
That's one ghastly story. Poor Princess. Born well but died horribly. Even when your father was a king the husband can reduce you to nothingness
What you say is so so true. This is happening now in the present day too. I can't believe why men think they are the rulers of women
Nah she was spoilt and the pea brain ruined her own opportunities. Imagine you had to marry a woman who looks down on you, disrespects you in front others, scolds and hits your mother, then like a Karen, high horse complains about everything, and you can’t reject this “gift” by the emperor. What would you do? You can’t kill her, you can’t divorce her (unless decreed by the emperor)… you’ll probably lock her up somewhere so that you don’t have to deal with her too. Also note that this abuse (neglect) happened after he was forced into remarrying her again.
@@rosewaters2533 but she was only 9 years old... what do you expect from her to behave when she forced to marry someone whom she doesn't love...

@@rosewaters2533 She was rich so ig her father could've afforded a therapist to deal with her issues but she was just a 9 year old girl . Remember when u were 9 years old? Were u an obedient child? Didn't u throw tantrums and went against ur mom and dad at all costs just to buy something for yourself. She was a kid and she was to be taken care of carefully and notified her what was wrong and right. Do u think in-laws are good? INLAWS are the worst to this date !! and husband? Her husband was also just a couple of years elder than her. What will he teach her? All I can say is that it is not her fault at all. It was her father's fault. He should have taken special care of her daughter by advising her and telling her what was wrong and right. I m 20 but still i have a lot to learn about relationships. Were u mature at the age of 11? We ALL HAVE once thought of a fairytale-like relationship in our lives and a 9-year-old getting something that's not fairytale-like is very frustrating and disturbing for her!!!!!We are mature so we can understand. I cannot expect a child to be perfect and abusing her just because of her bad manners doesn't excuse her husband's side!!!
Actually the video is not very accurate as it's loosely based on a drama series and novel, not what written in the original historical records. But even so, she was never an abuser, not in the drama series or in the historical books.
The princess already conceded to marry Li Wei out of filial piety and agreed to bring prestige to her in-laws' family, just one thing she couldn't agree was sleeping with someone she didn't love and barely knew. So she suggesed Li Wei to find a concubine to bear children for him. But that was rejected and she was still forced to bear children against her will. In the drama (not recorded in history), they even tried to drug and rape her but failed, and that worsened her mental illness.
The princess who could never leave the palace, was spoiled, had zero social and life skills, of course became depressed and made bad decisions when she was suddenly thrown into a forced marriage. She didn't hate Li Wei before the whole marriage thing, she hated him when he kept forcing himself on her even though she made it clear she didn't love him.
Li Wei was ugly to her because she couldn't find him attractive appearance or personality-wise. Calling him ugly might have been offensive because she was spoiled but she only said that while confiding to her childhood friend and maternal mother, she never said that to Li Wei or abuse him in any ways. Historical records also describe Li Wei as someone dense and ugly even though Chinese historical accounts usually don't comment on the appearance of someone with little importance like Li Wei if he was just somewhat ugly or handsome. So Li Wei's appearance must have been quite distinctive to be remembered and noted by the author of the historical text.
The Eunuch the princess was drinking with was her childhood friend and the only one who understood her loneliness in the palace and accepted her real personality, not the facade of a princess. They were soulmates. He was sold into the palace by his aunt due to his parents' death and poverty. At some point the two fell in love way before the marriage happened. But knowing they could never be together, they never confessed and just wished to accompany each other as a source of strength and consolation, not lovers. The mother-in-law often belittled the eunuch using derogatory words meant 'not man, not woman', which greatly upset the princess.
Usually the princess and eunuch would only talk to each other during the day. In the drama, the night they were caught drinking together was after the rape incident when they princess was too scared to fall asleep so she went to find the Eunuch to talk. In the historical records, the in-law only caught them drinking and talking, nothing indecent. The princess found out she was being stalked and with her ongoing mental illness, her emotions went haywire so she fought with the in-law and ran back to the palace.
There are a lot more about the story that the video misses out. Like how Li Wei was Fukang princess's uncle but she was forced to marry her uncle despite going against the norm at that time. How the princess was not only used as a repayment for the king's mother but also as a political pawn. How the in-laws were 'Nouveau riche' which conflicted with the old-money values and lifestyle the princess was brought up with. Etc.
It's a historical tragedy. Everyone in this story made mistakes which could never be undone, but the ones who had to bear most of the consequences were the princess and then the eunuch, who was almost executed and lived a lonely life in longing for the princess until his death shortly after the princess passed away. The in-laws recovered their prestige soon after being slightly punished for abusing the princess to death.
It tells a lot about the fate of women and how people viewed eunuchs at that time. Contrast to what popular media portray eunuchs nowadays, realistically most eunuchs had a very unfortunate childhood and those who were not power hungry or evil had a very isolated and sad life. Princess Fukang and her eunuch were just the victims of their times.

The scandal was the condition of the princesses body after her death which is why it was written down.
yeah many of those marriges were political union between enemies using the pincess for purpose of keeping hold of each other weakness
That fortune teller who predicted that the princess & Li Wei's marriage would reconciled & lived happy every after...he must have been bribed by Li Wei to say such things.
@rebeccaliew Yes my first thought
Moral of the story and history, never repay anyone at the expense of another person or loved one.. Humans are not commodities for transactions that involved feelings and emotions, no rapport, no connection between two people, what's the point of getting married?! Those days, the daughters suffer in the homes of the in laws and husband.. Marriage to a bad family made things worse.. Such situation sadly, still exists in the modern world today..
Except now it's usually your own choice in marriage and it's OK to divorce
this is mainly taken from the drama remake for TV show. the real story from the history record, she was neglected and abused because they didnt give her proper clothes and foods and let lived alone without any servants. It's pretty hard esp when she was a princess since birth and every thing was taken care by servants. she never told her husband he was ugly at his face, it was to her mother iirc. after her death, the eunuch wanted to see her but she was already buried. idk how long she was neglected after remarried her husband, but her death was 8 years after shes separated from the eunuch.
This video leaves out a lot of relevant facts.
She managed to exile her husband twice! So is it a wonder that he wasn't so keen on her when she did everything to harm him? Like lie about him embezzling the emperor.
And he didnt do anything bad to her before all of that. Only after she beat up his mother, exiled him, etc. etc, did he "abuse" her. Although he might just have left her alone and didnt bother with her at all, who knows. Historical facts are not clear about that. That necgect might have been because he just washed his hands away from her. And frankly... who wouldn't after she did what she did.
Unfortunately in those days... a woman needed a man to survive, and she didnt understand that apparently.
there is a drama covering this story "Serenade of Peaceful Joy"... the empror did both of the princess and empress wrong and hurt them so much ,he was a good ruler but not that good for a husband or a father
That’s what I say. How this is a good example of two wrong does not make a right. By trying to repay his birth mother of the sacrifices and injustice she went through, the emperor now sacrifices the life and happiness of his favorite daughter.
Just the title alone makes me want to cry. 😥
It's so sad that she and the Eunich were probably in love but never allowed to be together...
The princess was extremely spoilt. But it wouldn’t of happened if she wasn’t forced to marry someone she didn’t love. Very sad
No one married for love in those days. The problem was that due to her husband's connections to the emperor, he was allowed to commit crimes with impunity. If she married almost anyone else, they wouldn't dare to mistreat her.
Nobody during those times were married by love. People learn to tolerate each other and build a partnership of sorts through these arranged marriages. Only few lucky ones blossomed into love years after being married.
The princess brought her suffering upon herself because she’s so spoilt she disrespected the other family badly. Hitting the mother-in-law was a terrible offence and she was caught red handed by Li himself. Women during those days depended heavily on the man of the household so she effectively severed any chances of being remotely on the good side with Li.
Since Li can’t divorce her unless the Emperor decrees it and he was forced back into this unwilling marriage as well, he literally just kicked her to the curb. Of course one can say a more honourable man would probably hire maids to attend the princess and then exile her to one of his properties. But most people during those days aren’t as forgiving.
I'm pretty sure most noble woman were spoiled.
@@rosewaters2533 Li Wei was never forced into the marriage. He wanted it despite knowing she never loved him, and Li Wei was her uncle. The mother-in-law wanted to marry the princess into their house for status. The king used Fukang to repay his mother. Fukang was brought up as a spoiled princess confined in a palace with no one teaching her any life skills at all. She made many wrong choices but she was also a victim. She had zero freedom when it came to important life choices like her studies, career, marriage and children. She got fed, dressed up, raised and treated like a present to Li Wei's family. Imagine yourself living like that, would you be happy?
Chinese historians often relate to stories like this to condemn how detrimental forced marriages were to women at that time. Just because it was the norm doesn't make it okay and acceptable. Fukang princess herself realized how women were treated below men at a young age and asked why it was okay for men to expose their arms but not women. She was someone too advanced for her era so she couldn't fit in.
Also, she hit her mother-in-law because she couldn't control herself anymore due to her mental illness after tolerating her in-law's abusive behaviors and stalking for years. It was the straw that broke the camel's back.
There are much more to the story that the video ommitted. I read the novel, watched the drama and read the historical records about princess Fukang. She made bad choices but Li Wei was far from being a decent husband and her mother-in-law was definitely abusive.
@@rosewaters2533 You're disgusting. She didn't bring her suffering on herself, her father and husband and his family brought it on her by forcing her into the marriage she wanted no part of. So if a dog tries to run away from you or bites you when you abuse it, you will just kill it?
Well, according to latest investigations, it is very likely that the princess suffered some kind of hereditary psychosis for many of Renzong’s family members showed signs of mental illness. It is speculated that Renzong may have married the princess to Li Wei for his being a relative of his mother's clan, hoping that the he would treat the princess kindly in relation to relatives.
Source?
Its so sad. I think the eunuch and the princess fell in love but back then they couldn't be together. And after she died, he couldn't take it and killed himself. But its nice to know that in the period of time she was living with the guy that there was someone to take care of her, talk to her and love her even if it was only for a while. I feel like if the eunuch was still looking after the princess, he could have prevented all of this and he could have taken care of her. I think they truly did love each other but its sad that they could never be together
This is so inspiring. Even back then when women had no rights the human spirit cannot be contained by rules of the land. if touching someone made your skin crawl it just did. Some free soul people no matter the consequences cannot suppress this reflex.
This has got to be the most tragic story. A parent never should micromanage their children's lives.
LOL sadly it is still being done today. Not just in China either. I remember seeing a video of a 8 year old Middle Eastern girl pleading to not get married to like a 30+ year old man that she's never met. I think she was later found to be "unalived"
"...On the ninth day of the first lunar month in the third year of Xining (February 22, 1070), the eldest princess of the Chu State died in depression at the age of thirty-three, and their marriage finally ended. The nephew Song Shenzong went to the princess's house to sprinkle wine to pay homage. Shenzong cried to Zhongshu and complained that Li Wei, his consort, prevented the princess from seeking medical treatment. [44] [45]
In the end, Song Shenzong investigated the responsibility of his concubine Li Wei, demoted Li Wei to Chenzhou resettlement, and dismissed Li Wei as consort. Auxiliary ministers discussed the posthumous title of the princess, and Song Shenzong, because the princess was filial to Song Renzong, issued an edict to give the princess the posthumous title of "Zhuang Xiao" and posthumously conferred the title of Qin. The princess left a posthumous list before her death, hoping that Song Shenzong would promote his heir, Li Sihui, from the deputy envoy of the supply library to the secretary of the supply library. A middle class commoner is great. Not too rich and prestigious, but comfortable enough not to struggle.
Not if you lived poor, or as servants, or as women in homes where you had no freedom. It was everywhere. Forced marriages were normal then.
I love Chinese dramas and romanticize everything but I know the reality of the lives back then; doesn’t matter if you’re royalty or poor servants, life is cheap and expendable.

One of the causes of resentment could also be the practice of elevating the princess to the same generation as her in-laws. While it protected imperial power, it would have definitely hurt family relations.
Eh, I kinda doubt it. Clearly the Mother In Law was willing to be abusive and stalker-y either way. If anything giving MIL power over Princess would have made it worse, faster....
That Common Commoner and his Common family had Absolutely Nothing to with Royalty. They were Jumped up and lived on the Emperor's kindness.
In return, they treated the princess terribly until she died. No food, no servants, no medical care, no love, no respect, etc. She may have acted a little spoiled in the beginning but she’s a princess!! She’s coping the best she can with a forced marriage by being with the people she’s most comfortable with, her servants and eunuch. Also the husband and in-laws weren’t all that innocent and tolerant either in the beginning. All these people deserved to be executed for her death after her living condition has been reveal. Clans got slaughter for lesser crimes.
I don’t care about the status of a person but when it comes to treatment of others, love and respect should come first! Women, through the ages, have been treated like garbage with so much disgusting disrespect. But as the old days are dying, so are are mindless men. But now women are fighting back with everything they got! Women are now stronger in status, mind and body than most men today. What a humiliating world we live in. But it is a better world than it was back then when most men weren’t as educated.
Men has been treated with disrespect too you know? And you know the abuse of women aren’t just by the hands of men, even nowadays there are women selling off their daughters for sex in low income countries.
Also in this case; the princess was haughty and disrespected the husbands family.
nobody hates women like other women (jealousy) and the richest and most powerful humans are all men.
Women are not stronger in body than men. Perhaps you meant to say longevity.
Women didn't suffer because of the construct of society, women suffered because they were on the hands of terrible men. Being terrible and abusive isn't just a trait exclusively in men, but it is a trait that all belongs to human (women included).
Saying that women are some sort of special ain't gonna change anything either. They will only become the monster they sworn they won't be. Nothing really change on the human dynamics because at the end of the day, no matter how much they think that they'll seek to destroy the Patriarchy.,they have audacity to seek a man that will provide for them or search for a man who's earning greater than themselves to be considered as husband..even if it's ironic that they already reached the top of the majority.
So much for destroying for destroying patriarchy but still looking for patriarchy.
@@naknampucha5236women suffered because they had no choice but to follow and obey men or be ostracized if they do otherwise. During those ancient dynasties there were always arranged marriage . Most often the boy and the girl has not even meet . Mostly the victims here are members of royal and noble families . It’s marriage to return favour or convenience . No love at all . It’s just lucky once married both respect each other but if not then the worst happens .

Que desastre, tener que vivir obligada, con alguien a quien no quieres y te cae mal, que te trata mal, a muchas mujeres les pasa esto, es terrible, por eso debes ser autosuficiente, para poder huir si es necesario, vale más sola que mal acompañada
First of all if you want to pay back somebody do it yourself not by making another person pay for you. So this marriage idea is absolutely absurd.
Secondly, when two people who are getting married don't Even like each other and forcing them to marry is a sin of spoiling two lives.
Thirdly emperor is so stupid he could have demoted the princess and arrange for her to be out of capital for some duration so she can live freely Rather than forcing her to be with the husband whom obviously won't like a wife who's arrogant, seem to be close to another man even though eunuch.. and the 3rd emperor punishing her husband is again crap because when someone don't care about you do you think they will get doctors for you. This clearly indicates her husband's alienation towards princess.
I get your point but
Because they are so hard to understand, but because that thing we call China is a huge place, with a long history, and it would be wrong to expect to ever fully grasp what it means to be Chinese, or do things the Chinese way.
All that hedging aside, I do think you could be pragmatic about it.
Presuming you are simply trying to get on in modern day China’s culture, I would give you the following list of tips:
Know your place; in China, family always come first. Then come relatives and old friends. New friends are welcome, but won’t be prioritized.
“Saving Face” is everything. There are a hundred ways in which the Chinese can acknowledge or humiliate you, and it all boils down to small details like who sits where, when do you get to speak, what sort of dishes are served… if you can read that code, you know your place with them.
Food is China’s unofficial religion. You will be asked “have you eaten?” in the same way you will be asked “how are you doing?” in the anglosphere, and they mean it. Never downplay the importance of a meal. They dedicate an amazing amount of time, resources, and energy to making, eating, and procuring meals.
Negotiation; the Chinese will offer you a choice even when it is clear what you want. It’s one of the prime directives of China. The other person must always have a choice. That way, you may find yourself playing cat and mouse with other pedestrians many more times than you would in the western world, because one indication of intended direction just isn’t enough; no, you will have to swerve around fellow pedestrians in the last moment, because they will keep offering you options till the last second.
On the whole, I like Chinese culture. When you are there, you feel a new mellowness, surrounded by abundance and the dynamics of an old culture that is mercifully pragmatic and philosophical.
Also speaking without knowledge/experience about the topic is considered irresponsible and stupid in Chinese culture. That's why free speech is always laughable topic for most of Chinese.
Only the fools speak more than others!
Serenade of Peaceful joy is an accurate depiction of her.
China has always been a source of real history and Confucian precepts
Thank you from Scotland.

Poor girl may she rest in peace

Is this the true story or the fiction historical novel that partly inspired C-drama Serenade of Peaceful Joy?
Of course
@@arielzhang679 of course, you mean true history?
Yes, and I think most historical dramas in China is following the true stories from the ancient imperial families.
@@ameramurao1602 C-drama officially has of course to follow historical facts, that what is known from the historical administration. Then there are other historical sources like artworks and tombs. The process of the love story between leads are of course fiction, or based on rumors, legends, novels. Or the historical leads have a love story with a fictitious character. Often side figures or even main figures did not exist in history. Real concubines were often anonymous in history. They are registered without name. Some plot twists are only possible when fantasy elements are used, like timetraveling or transmigrations etc. Or, changing names, periods, dates, kingdoms and using open endings to be interpreted by the viewers. Or the ending is not filmed but told by a storyteller, or cleverly filmed in a short last scene. E.g. Stand by Me (short last scene) , Princess of LanLing Wang (voice, alternative ending (not available on YT) . There is censorship in China, what is allowed and what not. Rules also change. This seems to be different for television drama, films or internet dramas. Sometimes a C-drama of the past suddenly is "canceled" in China. I read that happened to The Story of Yanxi Palace. I do not know what is true in this canceling. If you compare The Story of Yanxi Palace to Ruyi's Royal Love, and other older C-drama with the same historical figures Quenlong Emperor, Step-empress and Ling, you can get what are the historical facts, historical "rumors" and what is fiction. How they used century old "rumors" very creatively in their drama. The same goes for Empresses in the Palace. The prequel to Ruyi's Royal love.

Le nom du drama pour avoir une idée pleaaase ?
Just like all those drama we’ve seen before. Being a ruler doesn’t mean you have the power to decide everything. Again it’s the OFFICIAL. wtf
We are living now in a very fortunate period concerning womens rights. In the time period of this princess this kind of treatment seemed unfortunately common.
We are lucky to live now.
Tell that to the women of America who have now lost their right to choose whether they want to be a mother or not?
Why this aggressive answer? I am living in Europe where things are seen differently and I hope it stays that way.
Yes, in some countries women's rights are a fact, I say : in some !!! But on the contrary,
and it is unfortunately a harsh reality, in many many countries of the world, today, they are denied the mere basic rights that they should be, as women, entitled to : Check :
young girls. sold as slaves, married against their will, under patriarchate's rules similar
to those of the Middle Ages, obscurantism , women abducted, or sold by their own
fathers, so poor that they are reduced to sell their daughters : too many mouths to feed !
Girls who have to undergo FGM, (even in Europe ...) Women kept inside houses, never to see the light of day, slaves to their in-laws, punished or even burned for some silly little mistake,
women raped, women obliged to hide themselves in cloaks. from head to toes, denied access to education, schools, medical care, etc etc I could go on and on ..
I stop here. I live in Europe too, but I know for a fact that women are trafficked in Europe , sold
like cattle, exploited, now . I don't want to be agressive, just saying that there are many examples here of women not favored by life, not having choices, striving to make ends meet and nowadays as thousands of hopeful immigrants arrive on our shores or elsewhere, for a
huge majority of those women anything but a "fortunate" fate awaits, far from their hope of a better life. It is so very sad. I feel for the sisters having to endure hardships and injustices just because of their gender : women.
@@monikabrachetti8585 perhaps in Europe, all is well. That's good for you. However, in America, the judges have deemed a woman not fit to make her own decision about whether or not she wants to raise a child (no abortion). It seems that Americans don't have enough macho fight wars and dominating over the world that they now think they should dominate over the women too.

Is there a drama about this? If so what is the title please?
Serenade of Peaceful Joy
This is no way close to what it was actually wrote in the history book
please share more! I would really like to learn more. I did a quick google search and I can't get enough of this story.
Poor girl she saw that coming But wasn’t smart about a decision on how she handled it
It’s not that she wasn’t smart, she just wasn’t used to not getting her way. In the past, her crying and discontent would’ve been met with sympathy, leniency, and eventual bent to her will
Times were difficult for women back then.. no matter how smart they were they were walked all over till the point of beheading
@@di3393 That didn't apply to princesses.
I can relate to her story...
Bro the entire Song Dynasty was kinda unhinged
It was because of his guilt so he married his daughter to his nephew. The marriage ruined her future.
Is there a movie on this ?
Serenade of joy
Marrying ur daughter with her uncle???!!!
you said "was Abused to Death", where was the "abused"?
Why always women's I mean even the Princess cannot choose for themselves who to marry ridiculous 💔
Cause women were pathetic weaklings when it came to physical strength.
It’s actually stupid that he wasn’t much of a father to his daughter but a king, okay she intruded late at night but it was his own daughter he could have heard her out, one fatal mistake of his led to something that wouldn’t have even happened during that era or she could have at least died in a more peaceful manner.
There is a Chinese tv series about this story: Held in the Lonely Castle
and there is a song for this story:th-cam.com/video/X8PBbc_aUkA/w-d-xo.html
Such a sad story!
The medieval ages were terrible era's to live in, regardless of status or nation. Women lived difficult lives too.
At that time, China's female status was OK, after all, she was the successor of the Tang Dynasty! Women are always officials, but there are no female emperors.😂
A miserable tale, like Cinderella in reverse.
Actually it doesn't matter that you don't know your husband but it matters alot if you don't even want to make efforts.
Men have ego and love women who satisfies it.
Women are stubborn and love men who coax them..
So both the attributes if not in balance would result in disaster..
Do you have any suggestions for satisfying men's ego
Well, it's not a woman's job to satisfy a man whose got that weak ego syndrome, isn't it?
Things went wayward because of the emperor's decision to let them marry and still let the princess return to her husband despite the grievances she claimed. The queen's decision to remind the king that it was the king's payment of her late mother that's why he couldn't take it back sounded like she was thinking about the face of the king and the good of the people but nope. That queen consort whatever was clearly putting that princess into her deathbed (probably because she didn't like that princess being favored by the emperor so much. She's not her daughter after all but a daughter from another concubine). The king's harem is always what we call the deep troubled waters full of poisonous snakes.
Anyway, that emperor was soooo wrong in his decision. He may have good intentions but intentions are merely intentions. If the people tasked to relay these intentions doesn't have the will nor the power to execute this, such intentions will only lead to the lives of those bearing it in great peril or disaster.
@@AR-ch5ek what the person is saying is that both parties have to make efforts to overcome thier human nature which for men it's their ego and for woman it's their stubbornness. Only then can they meet in the middle and form a proper union...

i totally agree with you

Sad but interesting story. Thanks!
What a sad story
#royalrecipes poor princess
it's weird how they were both spoiled and oppressed in ancient time
I am confuse is this real story or just a drama 😁😁😀
It's a real story. But the drama adapted from and beautified it.
There is no honor in causing pain.
The same thing I going through every single day in the hell neighborhood of cruel cowards and despots where I live.
If you’re an emperor you can send any minister to anywhere anytime, just saying.
More details would have been good. it was bit boring, but still very sad.
Chinese histories are voluminous. From poet and historical records, there are politics in Imperial courts. With concubines and wives of Emperors, it got very messy in affairs and treatment. Sad reality was why women got to get all the craps and pain. Better to be a commoner.
Can anyone share the background music?
Sad story. Too bad they couldn’t get along
But why there is wang yibo and ren min photo 🤔🤔🤔🤔
She architect, civil engg a mansion..even labour aspect...how can you say her arrogant??...i say noone understood her...husband display wife artificial love, they love their unmarried sisters only...women also seek unconditional love as men do..
Being concubine might be better than wife..you get love bit and pieces atleast...
She honestly sounded like a spoiled, nasty brat but that doesn’t justify repeatedly forcing her into a marriage she clearly doesn’t want and how Li Wei treated her. But she literally attacked her mother in law for no reason, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was quite a tyrant
Her mother in law was stalking and harassing her, it was most likely self defense.
Wow Le Wei was a bit of a dick no wonder he could not win her over. I expected him to tribute himself daily to her in trials to win her over like that knight with all the horrible burns and a missing eye tried to get his wife to love him. I mean I get it though some women are not worth it. But he should not have let her die.
Antient times , what do you think that used to happend before? today we have to thank for the world we live now, some people say our times are getting worse, but its not, its the media that bring bad news everyday and makes us think things are getting worse, people say it was abusive, imagine that this term is new..everything in the past was abusive..
I was wondering if this was written in the history book in china,
Pretty sure the princess ran away with the eunach and burnt her servants face and made her die there is n her stead
Please! I would love to watch your interesting videos, but THE SOUND IS TOO LOW!! The volume on my phone is at it's highest, but you sound like you are whispering. Please record at a higher volume.

The story told by the TV series was false. She never abused to death, she was separate and living lonely for rest of her life.
