Because Cannonball’s power is basically generating thermo-chemical energy for 3 adjustable effects: Flight propulsion, kinetic energy blasts, and the blast-field that protects him and others (whether blasting or not).
That protective blast field “that keeps me nigh-invulnerable” ain’t his only power.
