    According to the curator of the Hornsby archives in the UK: It was definitely Hornsby policy for fixed engines to run 'forward' and for portable engines to run 'anti-clockwise or backward'. There is a statement to this effect in the Hornsby Akroyd sales brochure. This engine is running the proper direction as intended.

    I think we are looking at the flywheel side and the drive belt is on the far side from the viewer. If so it is going clockwise. Still she is sounding odd.

    Should this engine turn the other direction, it should turn clock wise from the view shown, that is why it sounds all wrong

    does the burner need to run the entire time if there is no load ?
