      According to Pele the only player he feared playing against was Bobby Moore, nuff said. People don't realise that it wasn't just the fact he was the greatest centre half of all time but his distribution was also brilliant, he worked out his maximum accurate range and the whole team timed their movement around that every time he got the ball. I think the phrase "proper player" could not be more apt for any other player. I am not an Iron either, I'm a Gunner, but you have to respect greatness.

      Fun fact: England never lost a match with that defence, it's just injuries meant that the defence had never been presented in a finals before 1966. Once the line up was known England were considered nailed on for the trophy. This being England though means it had to be done the hard way.

    Bobby Charlton was a gentleman on the field as well as having a rocket shot. He was loved by that generation and he represented those who did not survive the Munich Air Crash [which the story of is well worth a watch] among the players who died was a player called Duncan Edwards who was the golden boy of the period the aircraft attempted to take off three times in slush then crashed.

    Bobby Charlton is a legend of football known throughout the world, not just England, decades after he stopped playing. A true icon.
    His strike rate was a goal every 3 games for Man Utd and almost 1 in 2 for England. Very few strikers acheive that. It's unheard of for a midfielder and most were absolute belters.
    There are some excellent documentaries about his life. This one is an hour long.

    Hi Connor, when they mentioned W. Rooney breaking the long held top goal scorer record at Man. Utd, that was Sir Bobby Charlton`s record. He was in the crowd to see it happen & cheered for Rooney`s success. A great player & a true icon, who was always down to earth & modest about his success.
    When other great`s such as Pele, Eusébio, Franz Beckenbauer et al, all speak highly of you there is no better honour to be had. Sir Bobby signed professionally at 16 yrs old, but did not play for the first team until 3 yrs later.

      Shearer would be up there mate, you stick prime Shearer in Haaland's shirt he scores just as many goals, with Shearer though the rest of the City team would score more goals. Shearer's other natural talent was how he dealt with pressure, the more his team needed a goal the more likely he was to score one. Outside of Arsenal every defence in the league was terrified of him, he'd grind down most centre halves physically after 50 to 60 minutes. A complete no 9, the closest we've had since in Kane, but he doesn't have the bottle of Shearer.

      I'd say Beckham deserves it. Though a tough call between him and Gacoine of who deserves it more. Gascoine was more talented technically, Beckham was world class at passing, crosses, free kicks. He was more reliable and consistent and performed better for England IMO, so edges it for me.
      I agree Greaves should be on the list.
      Scholes and Le Tissier were fantastic footballers, but didn't get as many England caps as they should have done, so didn't have a huge impact for England. Scholes was also hampered by being played out of position for many of his caps.
      Gerard was a fantastic player, but shouldn't be on the list as he wasn't as good as Captain Marvel, Bryan Robson, had less impact for England and was far less influential in the team.
      Robson got 26 goals, 90 caps compared to 21 in 117 for Gerard and was the captain and best player in the team. Gerard could easily be replaced by Lampard (29 goals in 106 games) who was just as good, or Scholes who was better (14 in 66 and often out of position). Whereas Robson was a major loss if he couldn't play.

The Americans don't call it "soccer" cos 5 people in uk did in 1800s. They call it "soccer" cos they called rugby "football" claiming the working class people in uk called football "soccer" is simply nonsense. The actual truth is our FA tried to re brand it and it didn't work. I guess our FA have always been useless. The word football predates "soccer" by hundreds of years. Not sure where you're getting uk fans called football "soccer" until the 80s mate. Cos they definitely didn't in the west Midlands.

You can play in professional football at any age (under 16 so long as it doesn't interfere with your schooling) but you can not sign a full contract until you are 18 as you can not be legally held to a financial contract as a minor. On Beckham's first start for Utd he scored his first goal from inside his first half. Oh, and where was Tony Adams? I don't like players receiving death threats and so much hate, but football makes so much money because people are so passionate about it, which comes with these issues. Regarding whether you have to be strong or not, on most levels, there's a huge advantage to having a good build. However, at top levels, players are so smart (they make fast decisions) that it becomes less relevant. But as a general rule, the game will be a lot more physical further down the divisions. As an aside; why wouldn't people be able to play pro basketball at the same age? (Assuming you're tall enough lol). It's a less physical sport (no tackles, less running, more substitutions). I think it's just a product of the American rules. In Europe, you have plenty of teenagers doing it in the big basketball leagues, and many of them have proved more than capable of transferring to the NBA (e.g. Luka Doncic, who made his European senior debut at 16).

    Gerrard was good for club. Terrible for country. IMO. No idea how he made this list. Charlton, Bryan Robson, Michael Owen were all better for England. Gerrard wining so many caps is part of the reason they won nothing in his time. There is no way he should have been infront of any of the other 10. Lampard did more for England, Scholes was a better player. Not knocking the stuff he did at his club, but this is an England list?!

    • @dentze
      @dentze ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tbf every other player and the managers are also the reasons england won nothing during the last period, gerrard is not the sole reason nor is he the biggest. and he definitely wasn't "terrible", I can think of only a handful that would have been better during his run and not enough to leave him out of england squads.

    • @Penddraig7
      @Penddraig7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They tried to make Lampard and Gerard work in the same team but it didn’t, the balance of the team was sacrificed to have them both on the pitch and they basically cancelled each other out, it should have been one or the other playing and someone else playing along side them in the midfield to have a midfield partnership, England needed a Scholes/Keane or a Viera/Petit type partnership, it was obvious very everyone to see, even Stevie Wonder and yet every manager played them both and England suffered because of it, it left a gaping hole in the midfield that teams exploited, sure they were ok against average teams but as soon as they came up against a team with a good midfield, that was it, they got found wanting
