Excuse me, but I just got out of church. So all I have to say to you is amen I would love to see a medieval 2 total war remastered. Still remember playing this game for days As England and into crusades in the Middle East, I thought I was unstoppable. Till the mongols came and destroyed my whole army, It was absolutely amazing..
@@sleepingrabbit4011 Yes, yes, I concur. Just like Andy said, the game is drawn back by its dated graphics and models, but we have seen what is possible when they remastered TW Rome
I think the title of the video is misleading. This should be total war battle visual ranked worst to best. Battle in a total war game is not only about visual, you need to mention gameplay, UI, collision and how good the units and battle in the period the game portrays is.
I feel like that can't be true though. If so Atilla can't be ranked so low. Total War Atilla has the most variety of models in individual units. Some guys have beards, some have long hair, their wearing different clothing, theres women mixed with men in levies, there are unit commanders and bannermen, and the armor varies between the soldiers. Theres no way it would be ranked so low on a visual list. Honestly i don't know what this video wad going for.
@@cynfaelalek-walker7003 I wouldnt even say that since he has 3 kingdoms ranked so high. If you ever zoomed in on a 3k Battle it is basically Warhammers. it IS a warcrime if you judged the game overall to be that low, but you cannot deny that Attila's colour scheme is botched, its shadows are broken, and double goes for its performance. I love Attila as a game, but at the end of the day, the experience is severely diminished because of these issues and more.
More emphasis could have been put on the actual battlefields over just the units. The Rome 1 battlefields are just horrendous these days, being either barren flat fields or weird mountainsides where no ancient battle could ever have happened. Once you're used to the gorgeous battlefields of Pharaoh where every terrain feature directly effects the battle, it's very hard to go back.
I think a lot of it had to do with battles being tied to the campaign map. It was such a cool feature knowing that if you were near a mountain or river on the campaign map that it would show up on the battlefield but I also agree that it made for some really weird layouts haha.
Medieval 2 and Rome have the best battles specifically because of the vast amount of unit formations, how the units react to friendly units moving though them (which looks realistic) and great sieges. The Fall of Samurai and Napoleon have the best rank and file shooting battles (the smoke, the damn smoke!) plus good naval battles. Warhammer has the good from both of them plus great magic warfare.
warhammer has the worst battles.. where everybody just jumps and flies away.. you get no real clank vs clank feeling.. its just units jumping and they all fly away.. and when some beasts or big thing attacks.. everybody flies away like ragdools.. and then the beast stand there for 3 sek before attacking and again everybody flies away.. repeat this 100000 times.. its like having elephants in every battle.. its usless and just serves to please warhammer fans. no total war fans

The volley of archers in Shogun 2 is an incredible sight, the best archers in all total wars visually. Well, Napoleon is generally the best battle of all strategies (naval ones were especially successful). It's a pity that CA has forgotten how to make games like these. The Three Kingdoms looks amazing, of course. But the battles themselves are a wall-to-wall dump, yes it's beautiful. This video was fantastic! Thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyed it. You’ve definitely earned my trust when it comes to total war analysis and opinions. If you say that pharaoh has vastly improved, I’m gonna buy it. I was struck when you mentioned pharaoh pretty highly, so the only way to know for sure is to get it and play it. The only one I would really flip is, shogun 2 and Napoleon, and funny enough, it’s the exact reason on why you chose Napoleon. Having the flags, different colors, the artillery, amount of units and naval combat, is why I put it ahead of Napoleon, as, to put it in simple terms, just has a lot more flags hehe. And I enjoy my ninja’s sneaking up to the wall and able to swarm the dojo. I’m someone who plays total war where, unless I have an advantage in every single way, I will not use auto resolve. Even if the bar shows it’s vastly in my favor, if they have similar numbers, artillery, powerful heroes, I give them a chance to defend themselves. You’d be surprised on how many battles you barely lose, or the bar was so wrong that, in the field, you’re the one who gets wiped out. Love the battles.
thank you so much! Shogun 2 can be absolutely beautiful as well, truly when you get to those last 4 spots on the list, it's all semantics really, what you value over the others etc. I hope you enjoy Pharaoh Dynasties as much as I did!

I have personally said this to my groups of friends who love Total War: Thrones of Britannia was a good idea, but I believe it was the wrong time period (besides OP Wessex lol). They could have done Heathen Army time and made it as gritty as Attila where Ragnar is Attila in that sense. Kingdoms trying to survive against the threat of the Great Viking Army and its allies. Vikings seeking to build their own domains while also under threat from their own kin and the natives of the land. The alternative I have suggested is either an attempt at historical and/or ahistorical of Arthurian Legend/Post-Roman Britain where we got legends and characters like Ambrosius, Vortigern, Hengist, and the likes. It would be a better period for legends to form. Heck, they could have used the premise of the Warlord Chronicles, by Bernard Cornwell, as a basis. Its why I love the mod Insularis Draco! Its just that interesting time period between Roman and Anglo-Saxon England.
Something I've never understood is why Attila runs so well on my pc. It's a fairly new mid-end pc and the game feels perfectly optimised, contrary to what every single youtuber says. Anyone else with the same experience?
The problem is not that it runs not great. The problem is that while on a good pc yes 60fps and everything on (max) quality also not a problem. The problem us that a mid tier pc has the same performance than a top tier pc. I should have like 120fps avg and have to do it with 70. It doesn't usr all the hardware and without mods it looks like sh*t. In some places not bright enough and in others so bright that we need sunglasses.
I think what makes 3K stand out so much is that it's the complete package. There's a level of care, love and attention to detail in ALL aspects of the game which IMO we havent seen so completely since Shogun 2. I suspect it's because it was given more by way of resources. Warhammer is pretty damned amazing technically, but doesnt have that extra level of sheer detail like Shogun 2 & 3k. I mean from the battles, the UI, loading screens, music, unit detail - everything. I actually thought Troy did pretty well with the asthetics, but the battles dont work at all for me. They feel wrong - too light/floaty, almost an arcade experience. This is one thing Dynasty corrected - Dynasty feeling meaty by comparison.

Glad to see you up & about again Andy, & so pleased Napoleon TW made it to No.2 on your list! One of my all time favourites from CA. I can't comment on 3 Kingdoms though as it's still languishing in my wish list lol
I think shogun is honestly the best looking total war. It's the only one that no matter where you are fighting you know your in Japan. Other games it's a toss. Am I in north Africa Europe or united states. also the complaint on the gun smoke and such, but that period in history weapons were producing much less smoke per shot due to various other technological improvements at the time. Also they began sounding different. Simply because of the reduced size of the rounds used. Rifling was that mainstay by that point and you wernt igniting muskets with flint on a powder hold. I think they nailed the guns. It would of been out of place to have them still using napoleon style sounds and smoke when that wasn't the case anymore.
When I first got three kingdoms I was stunned. I had my doubts for that game but when I saw it and put mods it was a good playthrough , almost close to what shogun 2 is but in a different setting. The gunpowder total wars napoleon and empire are the gems but shogun and three kingdoms is my go to. I’ve always found the Attila had good mods like age of Justinian or 1212 especially with 1212 optimizing the game more as well.
Here is my list: 12. Troy 11. Three Kingdoms 10. Warhammer 9. Empire 8. Pharaoh 7. Napoleon 6. Rome 1 5. Rome 2 4. Thrones of Britannia 3. Medieval 2 2. Attila 1. Shogun 2
Warhammer at 10 is questionable to me, he is right about how some big weapons feel cartoonish when firing but in my opinion nothing comes close to the massive monsters smashing through armies top 3 in my opinion
@@Battlefieldfreak1 this is why it's above 3K and Troy) but overall battles in WH rely to much on stats and lords/heroes instead of actual tactics. Moral and landscape almost don't matter, most of battle maps look very unnatural and animations for the most part just suck ass. For me these are crucial factors
@@Craftworld_patriot idk what you mean the animations have changed a lot and are some of the best in the series, i guess if you are looking for a gritty war sim warhammer 3 wouldn't be for you but as a warhammer fan i think the environments are better than bland fields

"best unit collision" is not what comes to mind when you see this whereas at 14:49 the one hit by the charge just fly away from the shock and it wasn't even a proper charge.
i don't know why but I think battles must also be shown in a sunny weather(normal day) not every battle must be cloudy, and that is what i think do m2 r2 and Troy can do, its okay that sometimes is cloudy or so but every time is a little bit much
Ok fine, will play Napoleon again. That game is just 🧑🍳. It really took empire and improved on it. If they ever make Empire 2 I wish it will continue after Napoleon falls until the beginning of ww1. The thing I love about Napoleon was the freaking music!!! I also loved the drummer in your infantry regiment. I never played Three Kindgom but hear great things about it. Might even buy it. I have pretty much all the game in the series 😂
I can not be more disagree with you about Attila battles. Not only are they by far the most challenging of all the titles, but the darkness and apocalyptic environment is perfect for the historical situation
@@AndysTakeHe doesn't know that a mid tier pc had the same performance than a top tier pc. And that's what frustrating. Attila doesn't use the hardware of good pc's. I should have like more than 120 fps with eveything on highest setting but no.60 yes but the game is sometimes so dark and then so bright I really thing like wtf did they do. It's a bit fixable with reshade and mods but vanilla I never play it again.
Technically in my opinion, Empire is the worst and one of the best total war games. The worst in terms of age. It has aged horrendously once you realise the game is terrible in terms of depth and scope. Family Tree being scrapped in an era of the two largest wars of this era (Spanish and Austrian Succession) being the main cause. Agents, AI, Nations and maps are so under developed and needs to have a steam modding support. However, the ambition and new additions have been greatly missed from CA when this game came onto the scene.
Damn I really have a different list lol: 12. Troy 11. Empire 10. Pharaoh 9. Rome 1 8. Rome 2 7. Medieval 2 6. Napoleon 5. Shogun 4. Warhammer 3. Thrones of Britannia 2. Three Kingdoms Records (Romance would be 10-12th) 1. Attila
three kingdoms map and unit rooster with thier wierd generals was the worst. best total war is medieval total war 2... then rome 1= atilla rome 2 maybe.. and then napoleon total war... and rest is crap
I’m trying to watch this while doing some work but you talk too fast I finished the video without hearing anything 😂. Was trying to pick one to download 😢 I’ll play the video in 0.5
Rome 2 with mods and reshade looks great. And at least everything on extreme, vsync etc on ane still over 120fps avg with an rtx 3080. And no weird shadows like Attila or weird terrain like Rome remastered. Rome 2 wheb it first came out looked horrendous but now it really looks great for such an old game. My game looks like it came out in 2020 instead of 2013 (I don't want to talk avout before 2013, I just compare the emperor edition. But they worked very hard until 2017 or was it 2018 with there last dlc and I find it the best total war now. It went from the shittiest to one of the best. Now say again that a turd can't be polished. Because omg the state Rome 2 came out was just to cry for. And now it still looks great on extreme graphics with mods and reshade.
Dude, you made a complete 180 turn from what you used to say about many of the games. It is almost as if CA pays you to try and dissolve people's nostalgia and actual preferences so that they are more ready to give their new products a whirl. I don't say that it is what happened, but it is so weird how your opinions are nothing like just little while ago.
In what way are my opinions nothing like they were? Just because I put Attila at 11 for example, doesn't mean I don't love the battles, just means that visually and experientially, a lot is left to be desired, and if they weren't there, would elevate Attila to insane heights. That doesn't mean the end product is as bad as their spot would make it out to be, just means that yeah you know, Attila - a game I love more than most in the franchise - has a lot of blemishes. Conversely, Three Kingdoms is one of my least favourite TW games overall - but you cannot deny those battles are gorgeous visual spectacles that are near-perfectly crafted.
Even if people's opinions change over time can you tell me what exactly is wrong with that? Are people not allowed to change their opinions after years? What? Lol
You don't even have the backbone to stick to your, admittedly stupid, argument. If your going to accuse them of being paid by CA, which is very unlikely, at least stick to it and don't backtrack in your final sentence.
As for me this rating is a completely a bullshit. My opinion(I am a die hard fan from 2004) 1. Medieval 2 2. Rome 1 (with Remaster) 3. Empire/Napoleon 4. Shogun 5. Rome2/Attila ...... all other warscape crap without order
I get that tw history fans do not like it, but it certainly scratches an itch for fantasy fans. I guess it gets to the point if you like movies from the Lord of the Rings series or not... In what other TW can you use magic!?😅
@@TheSupremeMedjay for me battles should have several aspects to be considered good: 1) tactics should be the decisive factor, living units' and characters' stats far behind 2) moral and landscape should matter a lot 3) units should have decent animations 4) maps should be interesting from a gameplay perspective and look relatively realistic. Especially in sieges. Attila does great in all these aspects. Warhammer - not so much, unfortunately
My main problem with the battles in Rome 2 and Attila was always the feel of the units. It's hard to describe - but it's just...off. Units feel like they have no weight when clashing, every battle just looks like a blob of soldiers, meele takes forever and the non-existent contrast makes looking at combat even more confusing. Look at the contrast in this video with Medieval 2. Sure, the coloring of the units is unrealistic and garish, but the units just look and feel...better. Idk if anyone else has this issue or if I'm able to convey what I mean but to me from Rome 2 and onward TW battles just felt jarring
@@AndysTake very well 1st all historical titles. Feels immersive, looks awesome and has fun battles. Rome 1 might look a bit robotic but it’s an old game that still looks beautiful and the animations and realistic feel of Rome, atilla and ToB is top tier along medieval 2 2nd place is warhammer. Fun games. Terrible sieges 3rd Troy and pharaoh. Animations is copy paste from warhammer when it comes to running and death animations. Pharaoh sound is horrible and the animations isn’t great
My assessment of the worst to the best: 1. Shogun 2 2. Rome 2 3. Warhammer 1/2/3 4. Pharaoh 5. Empire/Napoleon 6. Attila/Thrones of Britannia 7. Three Kingdoms 8. Medieval II 9. Rome/Rome Remastered 10. Troy

I’ve always found the Attila had good mods like age of Justinian or 1212 especially with 1212 optimizing the game more as well.
I only play 1212 AD on Attila and it is the best mod of mods for sure.
Here is my list:
12. Troy
11. Three Kingdoms
10. Warhammer
9. Empire
8. Pharaoh
7. Napoleon
6. Rome 1
5. Rome 2
4. Thrones of Britannia
3. Medieval 2
2. Attila
1. Shogun 2
Warhammer at 10 is questionable to me, he is right about how some big weapons feel cartoonish when firing but in my opinion nothing comes close to the massive monsters smashing through armies top 3 in my opinion
thanks for sharing!
Pharaoh at 8? Thrones at 4? Lmao okay buddy.
@@Craftworld_patriot idk what you mean the animations have changed a lot and are some of the best in the series, i guess if you are looking for a gritty war sim warhammer 3 wouldn't be for you but as a warhammer fan i think the environments are better than bland fields
17:16 you're joking right ? Don't you see the units just sliding when the horse hit them in the back or doing a little jump like the horse have almost no weight nor speed ? "best unit collision" is not what comes to mind when you see this whereas at 14:49 the one hit by the charge just fly away from the shock and it wasn't even a proper charge.
Now do one for the best looking campaign map!
i don't know why but I think battles must also be shown in a sunny weather(normal day) not every battle must be cloudy, and that is what i think do m2 r2 and Troy can do, its okay that sometimes is cloudy or so but every time is a little bit much
WW1 game would rock
Worst tier list i ever seen.attila should be top three. Plz stop talking about totalwar . You know nothing about it
Rome 2 DEI - reurn to glory- make animation and batles one of the best !
So that was a really misleading title... a ranking of the best LOOKING battles and not a ranking of the best battles...
I have pretty much all the game in the series 😂
for me, the best battlefields are some of the best m2tw mod like europa barbarorum 2 or bulat steel or sengoku jidai
I can not be more disagree with you about Attila battles. Not only are they by far the most challenging of all the titles, but the darkness and apocalyptic environment is perfect for the historical situation
FOTS it's an hidden gem. Period.
I agree with you
How to turn off camera shaking in Total War whenever something explodes?
1.Shogun 2
2. Medieval 2
3. Empire (napoleon)
4. Pharaoh
5.Atilla
6-12. The rest (they dont matter)
Goated content
total war star wars will be epic cant wait
Very very based ranking.
Appreciate it!
No way you put Troy above Rome, Rome 2, and Attila.
Pharoah at 3rd
Patched Empire at 2nd
watch me
playing many hour on total 3k so i agree
I really enjoyed the Battle of Pavia
Surely first place goes to Napoleon, or Shogun 2<
Edit: I was wrong :(
Napoleon 2nd though, very high up! What's your list like?
Total War more like Total War
fr
Putting empire better then medival 2 is a warcrime you need to put it atleast 5
Dear God Andy, what have you become...
I watching empire total war videos because empire coming on mobile
Damn cant wait
@@toledobranch1099 yes
Andy is such a meatrider he pissed me off, putting Attila so low just cuz ur potato pc cant handle it and not cuz of how good battles actually feel?
@@im_misfar940 hahahahaha either you’re trolling (and doing good) or you don’t have eyes to see what’s on the screen, which is it
@@AndysTakeHe doesn't know that a mid tier pc had the same performance than a top tier pc.
Dude literally put three kingdoms above med 2 or attila, he is out of mind🤣
Yep dudes delulu. He favors the clone model units that appeared after Warhammer got big.
yes man three kingdom is bestttttttttt🙏🏽 I played all the Total War games.
Damn I really have a different list lol:
12. Troy
11. Empire
10. Pharaoh
9. Rome 1
8. Rome 2
7. Medieval 2
6. Napoleon
5. Shogun
4. Warhammer
3. Thrones of Britannia
2. Three Kingdoms Records (Romance would be 10-12th)
1. Attila
That is a VERY interesting list! Thanks for sharing! At least our Rome and Medieval 2s were fairly close!
Attila's graphics and engine are awful but the campaign is one of the best I've ever played, same for the battles
three kingdoms map and unit rooster with thier wierd generals was the worst.
best total war is medieval total war 2... then rome 1= atilla rome 2 maybe.. and then napoleon total war... and rest is crap
Hey how are you today? I've seen a video that your wife described the topic instead of you.
Hope you be well. Take care and Peace
Thrones last for battles..... really???? Some of my most immersive battles are in thrones.
And troy so high even though the battles feel like they have no weight...😮😮😮😮
I liked the battles of Thrones until i zoomed in and saw that there are like 4-5 models cloned throughout a unit. Its like everyone is related lol
Units in 3K look like clay, I'm sorry.
@@AndysTakeyeah completely agree with nearly all the entries besides maybe Troy but otherwise the point about Attila is spot on imo
My opinion(I am a die hard fan from 2004)
1. Medieval 2
2. Rome 1 (with Remaster)
3. Empire/Napoleon
4. Shogun
5. Rome2/Attila
...... all other warscape crap without order
Medieval 2... :D
Very misleading title
3k has some of the worst battles in the series
nope worst one is Alexander
Eww Warhammer 3 disgusting game imma go puke now
I get that tw history fans do not like it, but it certainly scratches an itch for fantasy fans. I guess it gets to the point if you like movies from the Lord of the Rings series or not... In what other TW can you use magic!?😅
Rome 2 is peak the others past it look over saturated and to cartoony
nah bro attila is peak rome is more cartoonish and less gritty and realistic
@@sulinash3554 Attila had very good graphics as well I just could never stand the lighting
uhm medieval 2 is number 1
Putting Attila below Warhammer and Troy is very weird:)
Well Warhammer 3 is a more beautiful game
@@TheSupremeMedjayno doubts WH 3 is a great game, but it's battles are not better than Attila's
@@Craftworld_patriot That's subjective.
@@TheSupremeMedjay for me battles should have several aspects to be considered good:
1) tactics should be the decisive factor, living units' and characters' stats far behind
2) moral and landscape should matter a lot
3) units should have decent animations
4) maps should be interesting from a gameplay perspective and look relatively realistic.
L list ngl
i disagree with every single spot on this list almost. especially putting troy and pharaoh and empire above rome R, Rome 2, Atilla and ToB.
share your own then!
@@AndysTake very well
1st all historical titles. Feels immersive, looks awesome and has fun battles. Rome 1 might look a bit robotic but it’s an old game that still looks beautiful and the animations and realistic feel of Rome, atilla and ToB is top tier along medieval 2
2nd place is warhammer. Fun games. Terrible sieges
3rd Troy and pharaoh. Animations is copy paste from warhammer when it comes to running and death animations. Pharaoh sound is horrible and the animations isn’t great
Clownery🤡 categorically disagree with the author of the video.
how so?
My assessment of the worst to the best:
1. Shogun 2
2. Rome 2
3. Warhammer 1/2/3
4. Pharaoh
5. Empire/Napoleon
6. Attila/Thrones of Britannia
7. Three Kingdoms
8. Medieval II
9. Rome/Rome Remastered
10. Troy
