You're right about the second to last execution not originally exploding/decapitating the head. You can see Shaolin rotating his hips at the end and hear the opponent's neck snapping, and that's what I think was the killing factor of the execution before. Then they changed it. I have a few theories: 1. His feet originally just fazed through the head, and the neck snap was likely too subtle for a lot of people to see since the opponent's body doesn't move after the slam. It looked strange initially but kind of made sense. 2. They wanted to speed up the "kill time" changing it to where the opponent died when the feet were slammed down and not when the neck was snapped. Fine I guess, but now we have a head that's gone and he's still rotating his hips and you still hear the neck snap. Oh well.
What I took away from this execution when I first saw the change is that they wanted to move over go for a head crush type thing, however with limited animation they can’t just show the head being crushed. There’s a few executions I think could be head crushes, like Shugoki’s Burst your Bubble execution.
I'm just starting to watch the vid but I'm already predicting that Shaolin's lethality and efficiency are gonna suck. 23:00 - the saddest part of the finisher is that the head was actually not disappearing when the finisher was released! As you can see, Shaolin even makes a twisting move with his legs that makes zero sense if there's just the ground under his feet. Why did they change that? Hell if I know - it was one of the strange silent patches they do occasionally.
to the maximum shaolins executhion efficiency, i think it has to be a 4 because if your in a battlefield and see your friend get attacked by shadow clones of someone. chances are you dont want to fight shaolin and will probably run away
In regards to the head “disappearing”…the model rigs for the character can only be “executed”in specific fashions such as disarmed and beheaded (notice there is no legs getting cut off or how the torso never separates even when the attacks seem like they should) the head is built to be removed but not cave in. The stomp certainly would have caved in the head but there is no in game animation or model rig that supports that so instead they just “explode” the head to give a similar effect
I'm almost completely sure that Shaolin's head stomp execution used to NOT remove the head. I even remember how Shaolin was one of the few heroes who didn't have any decapitation/head-removing executions along with (at the time) Glad and Valk
Flurry of blows reminds me of a TH-cam channel called Doctor Mike, who's a real doctor and in a reaction video of injuries in Home Alone, specifically when Marv hits Harry in the chest with his crowbar. He pointed out that along with the (potentially) broken ribs, if he'd been hit there, right as the heart was taking a beat, Marv could've stopped Harry's heart from beating. Yes, this has happened before.
So, quick thing about the helicopter strike, if you switch perspectives, you can see that the hover is actually coming from Shaolin using his other leg to kick off the warden
I was expexting lower score, around 50s or 60s, but then i remembered youre as much of a martial arts geek as I am. Your rating was fair. Keep up the good work
Wow, that is definitely a lot higher that I would have expected. I kind of though either his lethality or his realism would have been like 1s and 0s due to his weapon of choice.
Funny enough I prefer the executions for Shaolin that most likely wont kill, I built my Shaolin to be more Historical accurate (Or At least more traditional) and I had a Headcanon that my Shaolin is one of the only Shaolin who is still a Pacifist (Tho he will still absolutely kick your ass) So the Executions that I use are No Weapons Needed (Death by Metal exclusive) Mischievous Kill(Even tho It Definitely wouldn't kill) Flurry of blows And Brawling Showdown
Maximum shaolin is misunderstood by a lot of people apparently its not a reference to any show or fantasy, but rather another game that ubisoft made. One of the characters in said game used that same move as a special ability.
I could point out that with Flair and Finesse, it looks like Shaolin is focusing on his peripheral view, to keep track of the warden's movements. less efficient than keeping direct sight on the enemy, but if trained, could be doable. the human range of vision is pretty wide, and a lot can be perceived on the sides, if one is attentive and trained. So it's not completely not looking at the enemy.
I pretty much agree with all of these except flurry of blows. I actually Want to make a case that it could Gain a lethality point, but also Lose a point in Realism for that one final hit he did. That last punch had enough force to create a Shockwave and Slam warden straight into the dirt. With a force as strong as that, I'd say there's possibility of the ribs getting broken, Especially with the stress of the repeated strikes to the chest in the same area. However, I'd bet it's Not possible to hit someone hard enough to send out a shockwave of that caliber. And aramusha does the same thing in his barehanded execution with a charged Strike directly to the back of the neck/head that slams warden down face first and creates a similar shockwave. Just something fishy about that. I'm Also not going to argue that handing the staff to warden was a bad idea, because it is, But i THINK the reason he did that, was so warden's hands were full and he wouldn't be able to block the strikes. Whether or not warden could just drop the staff at that point Depending on the impulse reaction those strikes give him is Another thing though and why I'm only Raising the potential idea of why he threw the staff at him.
15:53 I'm pretty sure he held out his hand with an open palm in this position and then delivering a punch to the chest where the enemy flies backwards would be a clear reference to the one-inch punch, a move that Bruce Lee even demonstrated, and used to some form of fa jin i could tell which one to deliver great power despite the close range, but the cool factor is at full anyway so whatever. So thinking about it I think it deserved at least 1 in realism, at least for being a good and relatively accurate (partly) representation of martial arts
Hopefully you do see this comment but for anxi execution before it never popped the head idk when it started to but at release it never popped there are some shaolin execution videos when marching fire released that showed this
13:33 Mantis Wushu practitioner here, he's not using mantis he's using monkey style, shape of the guard can get them confused but he's using Monkey Style
@@RavenKnightYT Well, Mantis stance is just as low as monkey can be, For Honor doesn't really do Wushu stances very well specially for Shaolin (Raton's video on it shows it) In summary here, he uses a monkey fist stance to deflect the punch and that's it, a Mantis stance would have used the "Mantis hook" to grab the wrist and then strike, is the big difference here. It's like the only thing wrong alongside the video, love the content keep it up
I think a lot of players use Helicopter Strike because it’s one of his fastest in-slot executions in-game. I use it for that reason. Still, he could use another one that’s just as fast but not silly.
For Flurry Of Blows, you talk about how the only way this could kill is if it breaks a rib and the rib punctures a vital organ. But what about the sternum? That move always looks like he’s targeting the sternum every time I see it. Wouldn’t breaking the sternum potentially cause lethal damage as well? Or what about having your sternum repeatedly slammed against your heart and/or lungs (the sternum is directly over the heart, right?)? Wouldn’t that kind of repeated sensation potentially cause permanent (if not lethal) damage?
For mischievous kill I don’t think the final blow was a knee strike. It looks like he hits him with a jumping backhand. It doesn’t look like his knee hits his opponent at all.
Honestly, for the execution during 17:00, you'll notice blood plats out behind his head as he hits the ground, might be worth looking at the lethality grading again as hitting the back of the skull hard enough against the ground like that would definitely kill someone if not leave them brain dead
I feel like the last one would be better if he spun it so fast that it actually sucked the warden into it and sliced him to pieces. Let Shaolin become the helicopter of his dreams.
There are so many executions for many hero’s that could’ve been so much better if they just didn’t have a decapitation. A finishing slash to the face would be cool. Of a stab to the head or face. But not making the head disappear for 2-4 executions per hero.
One of the main problems I have with your grading in realism is that you break your own rubric very frequently. Specifically for the 1 in realism you call the move impossible to do and requiring supernatural aid. Giving a 0 in realism for supernatural moves feels like breaking the rubric and punishing the character for no reason
@@MementoMori7777 That's what I initially thought, but he clearly runs in with the sword ready, lunges forward, and gets intercepted when... *poof* no sword. We don't see it fall from his hand or get knocked away or anything. Just does a whole Houdini and blips away.
Shaolin monks specifically use a wax wood bo staff. The staff is made of a very flexible and slight wood that makes it easy to carry, but able to bend slightly, adding more recoil energy in the strike.
Yeah, I was not surprised at all that Maximum Shaolin got a zero for Realism. I am not a martial artist, but I’m pretty damn sure that Qi/Chi does NOT work like that.

Like I don’t even like LB yet I feel like now I have to defend it. This is probably my least favorite from you and I’ve been watching your vids for a while. Shame
I’m sorry you didn’t like this one. It’s a real shame. In my defense, I graded Oh Come On so harshly because it was nothing. Nothing was done. So if you turn in nothing for a project, you receive a zero for it. At least with Monkeying Around SOMETHING was done. Although I can’t help but bristle a little at the accusation of favoritism. I like Lawbringer way more than Shaolin…so if I’m prone to favoritism, doesn’t it make more sense that I’d give a grade to his shit execution? If you think this is my worst one because of one perceived bad grade, I suppose that is your opinion to hold, and for that I am very sorry. But i assure you favoritism had nothing to do with my grade.
"Well, I would bring it up if it wasn't for the fact that I have been" is an amazing quote and something I will always cherish.

I believe the execution Maximum Shaolin is is in reference to a Spider-Man move in Marvle vs Cap-com called Maximum Spider
