I love having the manual balancer the most. I check the balance before I set the bead and often I can rotate the tire on wheel to get the balance super close if not almost right on with almost no weight.
Mike, I had That same changer in my shop. I mounted mine to the shop floor with led inserts and lags in the cement ..loved it ..bubble balancing is the most accurate! Nascar still uses them. Keep up the great videos guys ! Love you both . Challis, Idaho... Bob
As a daily tire fitter, I enjoyed the video, I like the style, I would like to add.. MAKE SURE BOTH BEADS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE YOUR PRYING ON ARE IN THE DROP CENTER, you shouldn't have needed the extra screwdriver.
Mount it on an old rim with an unusable tire with cement in it with sturdy tires to handle the weight. Can still move it around shop but have the weight to keep it in place
I was going to say you could buy a tire mount and balance machine for a few grand each. But then I realized that you probably don't that often enough to justify the cost.
Well.... 1.) You're using the tire tool wrong and the machine should be mounted to the floor to operate properly! I have the same machine and that bar will mount and dismount tires easily by using the other end and rotating around center shaft! 2.) Make sure the manufacturer's mark is lined up with valve stem to locate the lightest point of the tire correctly! 3.) That balancer MUST be rebranded each time you move it or you can get false readings, mine is permanently mounted to floor! 4.) Unless you have NO OTHER choice use hammer on weights! If you have to use glue on type make sure you clean the wheel with an abrasive pad to ensure good adhesion! The weights you put on will fly off in a few miles as you can't glue to dirt!! Again I have the same tire machine and balancer with 50 yrs experience with them!
@@cameronduff884 I bought both of mine through JC Whitney 30 yrs ago and it is absolutely identical to the HF ones, probably the same mfr sells to all the discount vendors. I said I have 50 yrs experience with tires/machines. Another thing check for dirt dauber nests each use on the balancer as this will cause serious balancing issues!
I've got exactly this contraption. 100 bucks wasted! Have tried to break the bead in all possble settings. It slides, squashes the tyre flat but don't break the bead. After half hour it's just easier to have it done professionally.
You know if you put in on with the rim turned around it will go on easier thats that's how; why the rim has the angle on the inside of the rim so the tyre can move and slip on easier try it with the rim turned around next time
It's $35 per tire now around here NOT including balancing which is $25 plus weights or if both st same time it's $50 plus weights and I'm in rural West Tennessee !!
Almost $200 now for 4 tires, mounting, balance, shop fees. Just paid that on top of the $$1100 for tires for a half ton truck. Getting more expensive fast.
The original WICO unit manual said up to 16, in came with a smaller unit that would piggy back on top for wheel barrow and smaller ones, Harbor Freight offers a separate bench mounted unit.
I don't consider that tire and wheel assembly to be balanced sure it is statically balanced but it is not dynamically balanced you're still going to have shakes and shimmies probably.
As a professional tire changer, I wouldn't say it that way, but as critical as it might be, the average DIYer might be better off not having his wife or kids cars as the first attempt, but the haywagon, boat trailer etc then okay.
Tire changing machines are so cheap on eBay, better off just getting those. $1800 you can get a machine and balancer. Practically pays for itself if you are a drifter.

I appreciate that 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks 4 the tip
For those of you who remember when American cars had bumper jacks. They were useful in breaking the tire off the wheel.
...most of zee time...
You make it look so easy, Mike. Thanks for sharing
Haven't seen a gravity balance in a while. Nice job, very handy for home garages!

This is old school!!! Love it
Looks simple enough!! If you have the right tools
Great job the way we use to do it.

Cool. I'm getting one of those.
It scratches the living shit out of the wheel hence why tire shops never have these
@@jakemarshall5457 ...I don't 100% agree with you, but I like your style...
The 2nd part of the tire goes on much easier if you push the rubber past the drop point on the rim..
Mount it on an old rim with an unusable tire with cement in it with sturdy tires to handle the weight. Can still move it around shop but have the weight to keep it in place
Video kicks ass
Using soapy water on the bead will eventually corrode the rim and start having rim leaks use bead sealer make sure you clean the rim!
Wtf bro thats amazing lol 120 per tire change in my area now.
😮 where did u get that balancer and how does it work??!!
I was going to say you could buy a tire mount and balance machine for a few grand each. But then I realized that you probably don't that often enough to justify the cost.
Takes up more space too

...then yours must be a WICO, as HF hasn't been in business that long...

Check to see if you have red or yellow dots on the tire that shows you where the weight should be in accordance with the valve stem
Do it with 305/20/R22 Runflat and I am impressed 😂😂😂
Now u asking too much 😆
The highest it will go is like 18in rim comfortably I did a 20in but really struggle
How do you prevent it from scratching the rim?
I just walk on the tire instead of using a pry bar. Takes a little longer though
Hi, can you explain in a other video about the machine for the balance, i dont really understand how to use it? Tanks you
Saving money
any instructions on how to mount this tire tool onto some wood like you did
That's how we used to do it in the 60s.
“Anybody” should be able to do this is a stretch. McDonald’s employees can’t even get orders right lol. Great vid
Well, part timers tend to know less than full timers....
@@cameronduff884 part timers are worthless.
My grandma is 100 yrs old, in a wheelchair and blind in one eye. She can still do jobs like this!
Been into cars forever didn’t know you can manual balance wheels
I’m interested in the balancing part
I've got exactly this contraption. 100 bucks wasted!

No bead sealant?
If the rim isn't in bad shape with rust it shouldn't be needed
If that is going to be a issue, clean the bead surface of the rim first, that crap tends to add to the problem.
Today i took off a 225/55/17 and put a 215/50/17 on and have to do a sec one ill be traumatised after that

Bullshit, the DROP CENTER is on one side our the other, or on some, it makes no difference, you are either misinformed or a son of a gun.
Some wheels you cant do that
I've found paying a dude $20 gets it done faster then me cursing and throwing it through the shed window.
Thats when you start singing, when you wish upon a star...

Instructions unclear: Crowbar slingshot into my back
What size tires will that do?
The original WICO unit manual said up to 16, in came with a smaller unit that would piggy back on top for wheel barrow and smaller ones, Harbor Freight offers a separate bench mounted unit.
You can do a 17 with it.
that is not good, the edge of the rim is damaged in this way
...you noticed that too..
Haw machs
I don't consider that tire and wheel assembly to be balanced sure it is statically balanced but it is not dynamically balanced you're still going to have shakes and shimmies probably.
“Taking your time anybody should be able to do this” not a baby
Yo'all forgot to replace the valve
Amen brother.
Do you have to replace it?
how you protect the rim from scratch
You Ned to slow it down. Can not see how you use the big bar,
I thought it exploded
No no no no. Not anyone can do this. Dont be so optimistic.
As a professional tire changer, I wouldn't say it that way, but as critical as it might be, the average DIYer might be better off not having his wife or kids cars as the first attempt, but the haywagon, boat trailer etc then okay.
don't know how the hell you're supposed to tell much at all about the tire changing with it being fast forwarded
Now do it with 30 profile
Tire changing machines are so cheap on eBay, better off just getting those. $1800 you can get a machine and balancer. Practically pays for itself if you are a drifter.
So .0000000001% of people? Gotcha.
This is a static balance, for a dynamic balance, with two wheel weight locations, you need a machine. They start around 10k
A balancer ain't 10k... ours was like 1k brand new
Ha i can do that without a tire changer.
Fuck no I can’t even get my 16 on my 16
This is nice but that’s not a hand mount, it’s a manual mount, the two bar method is a hand mount and it’s a pain in the fucking ass
That's not by hand..
Be a big boy and just use your hands..
Yea, but it's not a bicycle..
Thats not by hand you are using tools.
Your cute, or in a third world country...
