This is a great video, so it seems to me (an old man, a strictly armchair mountaineer). My respect for Theresa really grew as I listened. She has such a pleasant, casual way of speaking that one might suspect that the substance of her comments was casual. On very close listening (and a bit of Googling), I concluded that she spoke with great precision and authority in her low-key way. If she were to raise any sort of caution about the intentions of a prospective climber, at a certain time, under certain conditions, with a certain level of experience, planning a certain route, I would -- if I were that prospective climber -- stop dead in my tracks! I would back off my project until she gave a full-throated endorsement to every aspect of the plan. There is so much nonsense suggesting Mount Hood is just a fun, casual adventure for any reasonably fit person. And those crazy photos of the ladies in their very long skirts "walking" up to the summit more than a hundred years ago. But the statistics don't lie: Mount Hood is dangerous place that has claimed many lives.
This is a good presentation but….It’s amazing how much the obviously false 2nd most stat is said. It really knocks down the credibility of these bumpkins in OR. Kilimanjaro and Fuji are more often climbed and both have glaciers.
Love this video. Definitely one of the best.
Just wanted to say thank you for the information. What an awesome resource. Thank you Mountain Shop and Portland Mountain Rescue!
Can I do it without shoes?
