These demonstrations are so powerful, emotional and inspirational. As I get closer to achieving my black belt, I want to do something similar. At the academy where I train, we don't do anything like this at all. We have an open mat/training day where we train and spar, and then at the end belts are presented. But I'm that guy in class. You know the one - the loud one, the one who does stuff different. Professor Dean even said it. Alex didn't have to do this to receive his black belt, but he chose to. It's the hard road that makes the journey worthwhile. It's so impressive to see these demonstrations, and I want to look back and remember the rite of passage prior to getting my black belt, and hopefully look just a little like Alex during his exam. Thank you for the inspiration (and the goal)!
YES!! YES!!!! YES!!!!! That's my dad! I couldn't be more proud, sir. Not just of the belt you've earned in this system, but of your character, your integrity and your dedication. Honored to have been under your wing, blessed to have been welcomed into your family and humbled by your gentleness and humility as you achieve the highest of goals. Well earned, sir. Well done by your training partners and those sparring rounds were straight up badass! And thank you, Mr. Dean for giving my dad this opportunity and for training him.
I also started training in 2009 and was just awarded my Black Belt yesterday. So cool to see other people on the other side of the world practising this amazing art and achieving their goals. Congratulations! Been watching Professor Dean's videos from the beginning. Best wishes to you 🙏
Good stuff Roy! I'm following your content over 8 years now. From white to brown belt. These exam videos were such an inspiration to me that i must write this comment and say thank you for sharing. You're a truly a textbook example of a gentleman and a scholar, no doubt! If you ever decide to visit Bosnia (Sarajevo) i will be honored to have you as my guest. All the best! Oss!!
I cry every time with Roys students. Only training wholly can one understand these feelings. Its amazing how Jiu Jitsu makes you So proud of others achievements. When you gonoff the kat into the world and share that same feeling. You grow in ways you never imagined. Well deserved. Once again.
Beautiful as always. I get goosebumps, cry or both everytime the belt is passed, black, brown, purple, or blue. Seeing these videos has been the fuel to keep me going on my own journey at times. Thank you for these. I wish Roy, Rick, Alex, and all the other students continued success!
I’m a white belt with a year of training and it’s always amazing to see the levels of skill presented in these. That first roll was awesome because to me I idolize purple belts, but seeing that skill difference between the two is mind blowing.
What a beautiful showcase of jiu jitsu by everyone involved. Of course, big congrats to Alex. I'm a 38 y/o blue belt and these videos are always an inspiration to keep going. We must rely on discipline but Roy Dean's channel truly is an invisible hand on one's shoulder, moving and guiding us forward in our journey. Thank you sincerely.
First trained with Alex about 5 years ago I was a white belt he was a purple belt. Very good training partner glad to see he continued his training congrats Alex 💪
All I can say is watch this and it makes me go even harder to learn more from Jui-jitsu am a 3 stripe white belt. But I will be sure to put more into it. Thank you professor Roy Dean

Bravo well done sir. Having spent many years of my adult life training in Japanese striking arts I thought myself to be a proficient fighter until my first five minute BJJ roll. All those hours, all those katas for what?
can't get passed all the guard pulls during the sparring rounds ... as I always view in terms of real world and having trained Judo 81' - mid 90's. but, the commitment to art is commendable.
Sir my name is Mark I'm a former marine, I trained in marine corps mixed martial arts program.. I'd like to get back into training in jitsu.. where is ur school?

I trained with him when he was brown belt. I am so grateful to know him, and so lucky and proud to have him as my mentor. Very humble man.

I have to say this new format of showing the black belt’s speech at the end works really well. Always at the top of BJJ production game Roy 🙌

Huge round of applause for this guy. Sick demo.
I bet that blue belt felt that one the next day. I'm a 2 month old white belt. I tap out more than this in one roll (w a lot less style). Great video!
This was so so so inspiring to watch! Man oh man! Loved all the techniques. I have such a long way to go as a white belt. Great job!
