This video is probably my favorite of all the Christmas videos I've made. The song is so beautiful, and I love the pictures. Please enjoy.
In my opinion Karen was the best female voice of the 20th century! Her voice was velvet and indistinguishable from magic!

She loved herself deeply, but only when she was bone thin. She came from a f'd up culture....which she internalized as so many young ones do.
She was a natural with an angelic , pure voice. May she continue to rest in peace and sing with the angels.
Karen Carpenter had the most Angelic voice in the world---beautiful actually. It broke my heart when she died. I'm just so sorry that not a single person could ever help her on time

We were all enchanted by her voice. She will be singing if the "Ruling" stands, otherwise she'd be on the Drums. She was first & Foremost a drummer who sang.

AND LOVE AND ROMANCE!.. no one, and i mean NO ONE will ever come close to the sheer pure beauty, intimacy,moving, rich, emotional, otherworldly perfection of that voice of hers! not only was it the sound of her voice, but how she used it. her phrasing, emoting, her PERFECT DICTION and ANNUNCIATION of every single syllable and word, how she sang and told "the story of the song" and so on...
...and her Tone & vibrato control. Sheer effortless perfection of voice!

It's 12-24-2022, and I'm listening to this, as I miss my parents and other family members, many who are gone now. Merry Christmas to all who read this, and make fond memories of that day, you'll someday need them!

EXACTLY RIGHT mbblover (what does that mean lol ). Some of us have the ears to hear the magic. Isn't it wonderful to listen to music you know others just can't hear? How many times I've called it a blessing and a curse. I've been listening and playing pop and jazz music for many years and I say Karen Carpenter had one of the best female pop voices ....ever!

+gordon buzzell , That's quite harsh and judgmental to boot. Karen, like us all, was only human. There's also so much more to this story than we'll ever know. Her workaholic brother and cold mother who always favored Richard for some reason also contributed to much of her problem. We are all flawed and weak in some way.

this song was written by a soldier in World War 2 who was at war. Every other year my son is in Afghanistan, and while I love this song most of the time I can't listen to it. Remember our soldiers are Christmas. Find your local chapter a Blue Ribbon Mothers and make a donation of Christmas presents. Many of these soldiers received nothing. Thank You.
This message from me to you maybe a bit late but yes as a mum I know the feeling of having a son on deployment at Christmas I always set his place at the table waiting for the day he and his troop come back home safe and sound always sent care packages Merry Christmas from me to you
The lyrics were written by Kim Gannon - there is no indication in his bio about service in the US Army - regardless, the song is written from the point of view of a soldier away from home in WW2...Karen's version, like just about everything else she sang, is gorgeous, almost beyond description...GOAT!

The Carpenter's Christmas collection is all anyone needs to hear how special she was. There are so many excellent versions of so many great songs.
However, The Carpenters are among the top handful of singers to ever record Christmas songs. I know art is not a competition, but when a dozen or more artists record the same song and Karen's voice is the one that becomes definitive, it's hard to doubt she is among the greatest singers in history.
And Richard was a true artist himself.
What a beautiful voice she had, one of the best all time and my favorite version of this song too, wish she were still here with that magical voice singing again.

I was a "military kid", I spent Christmas in Virginia, California, Guam, Japan and about a dozen other places. My parents have long since left this life, and so I really have no "home" to go back to. My kids have all moved on and left me behind, though I will say I am proud of their success. To me, going home for Christmas is listening to Karen while I go for a drive, or when I retire for the night. Karen is always there to soothe away the chaos of the world I try to live in. Thank you and as has been the case for 45+ years, I love you Karen.

Karen was a treasure, it was a different time in our country when she was alive and singing, same with John Denver. those two created Christmas specials that you just don't see today. it does suck! this atheist nation doesn't even celebrate Christmas! makes me mad. I admit that even after all this time the holidays without her haven't gotten any easier. It's a terrible time of year when you're orphaned...especially when you're surrounded by people who don't understand. I'm sad reading that others here have the same experience.

It was heartbreaking to learn of Karen's death so long ago. When a fabulous voice is silenced there is always a sense of loss to the whole world. What a sweet young woman she was and I admired her so much. This is a lovely but bittersweet song. Her brother was such an important part of her music and I grieved for him also when she left us. Since 1995, long after Karen passed away, I have been working in the city of Downey, Ca., exactly one city block from where Karen lived. I have had the opportunity to speak with many people who knew her well. She was a wonderful person, and never let her fame keep her away from her roots. She was gifted with a heaven-sent voice, very unique to her exclusively. I am sure I am not alone, whenever I hear her voice and get emotional still, after all of these years without her. RIP Karen.

I’m 52, and I was in love with her voice when I was just 3 years old. Our family would go to Indiana Beach in Lake Schaefer. As I played in the sand of the beach in the summer of 1970, Karen and Richard Carpenter’s music became the soundtrack of that day, playing softly from a nearby radio. I still have to fight back tears when I hear and see her performing these Christmas classics. I miss her and wish she had stayed with us longer. 😢
