Yeah, I've interacted with some of those. Often they will first straight up downplay whatever you just said, and then talk about this entirely unrelated struggle that makes their life miserable. Like there's this tone of triumph and "Oh you think you have it so bad huh?". Also everyone around them merely tolerates them, no one actually likes them, and people are prone to talk behind their back. It's sad, but that's just what happens when you act like another person's suffering is not something you should console or relate to, but by belittling and making it all about you.

The "Shouldn't Say"s and the "Fishermen" are two of my least favorite kind of people and I've given up trying to have a conversation once it's clear they are one of the two. I just walk away cuz half the time the Shouldn't Says are fishing for you to drag it out of them and I'm too lazy anymore. If you don't feed them, they stop coming around begging for attention. And also, they train you into bad habits. I had a Fisher/Shouldn't Say combo friend who I got used to going spelunking during every conversation so much that when I met a new friend and would constantly dig when she'd say she didn't want to talk about something (because I thought she just wanted me to ask more before she'd continue to the story) until she blew up at me asking me why I can't just leave things alone. I had no idea I had gotten so trained to dig. That's when I decided I was tired and stopped digging with anyone. Life is so much better now hehe

My mom is 100% a Shouldn’t Say person, and this is so accurate. It kills me, bc every time she “teases” gossip, she gets a little glint in her eye, and a small smile on her lips. Like holding this “secret” information she has over our heads brings her so much joy 😂 And I’m always thinking, “Omg, mom, who are you fooling?? Just tell us already, since you’re dying to...” And then sometimes she purposefully doesn’t say the name of the person she’s talking about but gives us all the descriptors so we know exactly who she’s talking about.. 😂 And again, I’m like 🤦🏻♀️🙄 Who are you trying to fool here?? She’ll be like “Well, I really shouldn’t be saying anything....... *huge pause* But what if I told you that there’s a mother of one of the kids in your English class, who’s tall and blond, who recently separated from her husband and is maybe cheating with your English teacher? But you didn’t hear it from me... anyways, I really shouldn’t say anything else. I’ve already said too much.” And it’s like “Uh, yeah, mom, thanks for the subtlety. You basically said it all. We get it. David’s mom is cheating on her husband with Mr. Sanders.” Lol

I think it's a "one man's junk is another man's treasure" deal. I like learning and I like serious topics, and I'll talk about them in an enthusiastic, open-ended way. To someone of a similar temperament, that's great. But to someone who's opposite of me, I get misinterpreted as being negative or a know-it-all. Ironically, I'll interpret that person as moody and controlling.
