- The Revolver is a weapon in The Long Dark that was 'recently' added. But how does it affect your survival in The Long Dark? How does it compare to the other weapons? The Revolver is a lightweight and useful weapon in The Long Dark, utilizing its own skill and ammunition. Compared to the rifle, it is lightweight and versatile but lacks the deciding punch the rifle does. The bow is renewable and lightweight, but depending on your situation the lack of noise it makes could be a drawback. In this video, I'll discuss how the revolver compares to the other weapons and show off how it's used. Make sure you keep your weapons in top shape to prevent a jam or misfire!

I hunted a bear with a level 1 revolver by firing three shots into it and then running into quonset garage to reload, then returning. I killed the bear with bleedout, gathered some meat, made it back to the garage ( it had ran out onto the ice), went to bed, and forgot to drink water. I promptly died of thirst. Twas a good run.
Oof, sounds fun though!
I love shooting the recycled cans with the revolver, the physics are realistic and it has sounds and everything!

The revolver is the natural explorer weapon I feel. Moving into a new territory, and want to pack light to loot and explore, but to also be able to ward off or score an easy kill? The revolver want you want. Especially if you're beelining to a known weapon location or high loot zone, where that need for more advanced tools might be met. Move light, move fast, set up as needed.
I saw a bear in the distance on my way to Jack rabbit Island, but left my rifle back at the garage. I managed to sneak around the bear and get on the island but I couldn't just go on raiding without having a pop with my revolver, so at a distance that I thought the rifle would struggle at hitting I let off a round. Bang, then another, Bang, the bear didn't even notice and carried on walking to her Den, then BANG BANG I let the 3rd and 4th round off they both hit the target and she ran off in pain. I could see her near the cabins in tee distance slow down and thought well that's that. I looted the house and had a summit soda only to come outside and head to the cabins were thr bear was to loot. Risky move after pissing her off, but I needed supplies. I could not believe what I found. She was dead bled out and 33% frozen. I harvested as much as possible and slowly walked back to the garage whilst the aurora lit the skies. This was my very first bear kill yesterday. They just don't make games like this.

As new player I've found the revolver to be an excellent self defence tool as even a missed shot can scare away those pesky wolfs. That being said I did find myself crutching on it a bit too much and as a result I was slow to realise the potential for defence with other tools such as rocks and flares.
The revolver can be great. And it's not that it is necessarily a 'crutch.' But if you rely on one tool too much, especially one that can have limited ammo, it can leave you defenseless when you are without it.

I just found my first revolver in the long dark and I feel like a cowboy.

LOL me too I was at the alpinist homestad and I was like oh there's a bear let's kill it i have 50 bullets of the revolver, well, you can guess what happened after that

I ran into a bear the other day in TLD and shot it three times in the face and it dropped, sometimes I dump the whole cylinder and don’t kill a wolf, it’s a crap shoot.

10 hours in mostly blind run, new to the game finally stumbled upon rifle in middle of know where on hill, by dead body in pleasant valley.. no pistol yet. now i know i need some green sappling to make bow, i cant find it. what brought me to here. im learning so much from ur vids
The rifle takes longer between shots, the revolver can shoot rapidly and stay on target.
Maybe add, that the revolver can still be used while you have one single sprained wrist..
Could you mention how the revolver does in a wolf struggle?

Hehe... I may not have used it as such here lol.
I use a marien flare to keep bears at bay, And carry 2 revolvers, I unload both of them into the bear. It does the trick. I got level 5 skill on day 70 on a stalker custom.
I prefer the revolver when it comes to killing wolves because you don't get the tiring effect when aiming as with the rifle and I've managed to get a successful head shot insta kill every time. I've also managed to hit a wolf on the head with a stone, causing it to flee. But, if I want to deter wolves, I just use a torch or flare.
No need to use a torch or flare to deter wolves unless you're in a nasty situation. You can typically just walk away until you find something you can use to 'hide' with successfully, like a fallen tree.
@@Lonelywolfofficial wolves don't like me. They charge instantly and I generally have no fallen tree to count on. I've been mauled by wolves more than I can count 😅
I shot a wolf in the shoulder and it hardly flinched. I was bitten pretty bad that day. My ski jacket was bitten worse.
Yeah, at low levels the revolver doesn't help too much except as a scare tactic. Once you get to level 2 and above it starts to get a bit more reliable, especially with critical hits. I'd still take the bow any day, simply due to it's increased rate of bleed, leading to less distance they can run once you've hit one.
@@Lonelywolfofficial I was level 2, though. I think that run I got the revolver like 20-30 days in from the cave near the waterfall picnic area, and by then I had absorbed enough of the same skill book to level up. I could be wrong though, haha.
Oh, on another note, the cave had a rifle on a corpse, a revolver on a corpse, a bow and two arrows, and another revolver further in. I was very surprised.

@@cyber1ifeconnor Aaaaaayup. That's still my longest run. Kinda bored ngl, might risk my life to go pick up the john wick kit nature left me. The kg count was just too high.
I don't know if you said this, but it can be used in struggles and sometimes can land a shot, I've killed wolves in struggles with a shot of the revolver, that said it is rarer of an occurrence and risky since the character Will or Astrid alternatively hit the wolf in the head with the butt of the revolver, which doesn't do as much damage.
I've got a future video coming with struggles covered and all the weapons!

Revolver is a much easier to get Bow Imo. It can kill reliably while moving to locations. Bow is still better imo but getting arrowheads can be tough early game. For every arrow head or arrow I have found in this game I had found over 20 bullets for revolver.
the revolver is best used as a defensive weapon...not a hunting weapon. I tried shooting a bear with it before...not effective at killing bears at all. This is why i generally use a rifle as a primary against a bear and revolvers as a defensive weapon against an attacking wolf.
bow and revolver vs just rifle is the way to go based on what do you want to do.
Do you want to move between bases ? revolver with 12 spare ammo and bow with up to 5 arrow is the way to go.
Do you want to hunt that huge bear or moose ? get that rifle with 5 loaded ammo in it and turn back to your base.
They weigh about the same but carrying weapons based on objective is the optimal solution. You wouldn't want to defend yourself with rifle for simple wolves. You need those high calibers for bear and moose until you get to bow skill mastery 5. which is why carrying with you should carry with revolver. hunt deers with bow and defend yourself with revolver against wolves.
Or just be Bow Master Race all day long :3. All kidding aside, good points!
Yep totally agree, when I finally find it, I carry the revolver all the time for defense, and once I craft my bow and arrows I immediately ditch the rifle, the rifle is an awesome hunting weapon, but it is cumbersome to travel with it for sure.
For me my runs never last long enough to get a bow and arrows so I tend to prefer the revolver

I bought this game yesterday and I really like it, the dam was a scary place and I didn't find revolver so I will start a journey to coastal highway.

No Thing mystery lake revolver locations carter hydro dam, safe, under the stares in the upper dam, on a desk in the lower dam, trappers cabin or safe, and lake over look cave, there WILL ALWAYS BE ONE PER MAP.

No Thing stares that lead up to the cat walk in the turbine room in the upper dam it is on the far side where you enter you can find a revolver, rifle, rifle round or grape soda there, and you are sur you checked the lover dam and lake over look

PV is a shit region don’t be fooled by the nice houses. Whoever named it “pleasant” valley had a sense of humour.
@@TumblinWeeds not really, blizzards aren't much of a problem for me unless on loper and PV has some of the best clothing and loot in the entire game (also the way to TWM with the plane loot)

Yes and no...... if you have a high skill then you have a chance to actually shoot, and when it does it's ussually a kill.Either way i wouldn't sugest you keep it just for that as it is 1,5 Kg by itself (not including ammo), so it's quite heavy in my opinion

I’ve found my first revolver in mines connecting Coastal Highway with Desolation Point. There are few more locations, where you can find it but i don’t know them yet. I hope I helped you! Edit: Or just scroll down comments and read them :D
There's a myriad of potential spawn points in each region. The purpose of this video was to discuss the pros and cons of the weapon and situations I find it to excel in, not enumerate all the potential locations of it. I tend to keep all my vids as spoiler-free or spoiler-lite as possible. Hence I don't tend to cover specific locations like that in my guides.

They exist, but it's possible they're hidden. Also, if it's from a save from before the update that added the revolvers you'll be super hard pressed to find one, though it is possible.
Ok cool it's from after the revolver update but it forced me to get better with the bow so overall not too bad
there is a revolver deep inside the carter hydro dam. its at the lower level on a desk. seen it 3x so far in my resets. i say deep because it's way in there if you're just checking it out for the first time. make sure you have plenty of daylight ahead of you or a lantern with enough fuel. that place is huge. also if you leave the lower level dam you are pushed out to a different map and to enter back into the dam you will need to follow along the edge of the dam to the right of the door all the way over and there will be a broken window to get back in.
I started a new stalker game and waited a whole in-game month to find a revolver, which I finally found at the broken railroad, only to find another one in new condition in a cave right next to my home base in mystery lake, I was a bit furious about it lol, but hey free spare revolver.
Hahahah you poor thing. Enjoy it now that you have it though!
